Something many don't know (including many holders of FFLs) is that the US Post Office WILL mail a handgun from one FFL holder to another so long as the sender submits a complete Form 1508 with the package.

http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps1508.pdf The form is not very complex.

This could save you a ton of money on shipping costs, even if the FFL holder charges you a fee. Might want to print and take copies of the form with you to the FFL as they likely will not have them.

post office must ship muzzleloader. they must look at gun to see if it is unloade. so, you have to seal it after they look at it.same with rifle. pistols, no way. only to dealer.

Mymain ups centerwouldnt ship for me either from person to person. They said it had to be to an ffl holder or back to the company I bought it from or tothe manufacturer. Luckily a manager at another location had given estimates on shipping a couple of rifles aweek before. I went to him and he did it saying only this one time but I cant insure it. He called the main center before he did it and the manager over there told him not to. He said to keep it hush hush and he would do it this one time. I think they are full of bs. Also, forget fed ex,they wont even touch it. Didnt even try Post office if ups is refusing it.

All I know is UPS ships me rifles all the time. Lately about one a week.. My White Ultra Mag came by Federal Express just a couple weeks ago. Whether a business shipping them VS a private party might be all the difference in the world.

Years ago in another town, the United States Post Office used to ship rifles and handguns all the time for me, although most of them went through my friend that had a FFL.

I personally think it is the manager of the local shipping establishment and what kind of bug he has up his you know what, and how uninformed he is on regulations. Of course I learned if you argue with them, they get mad and kick you out of the store...

Yep, Your last paragraph says it all. The ones I spoke to acted like I was trying to ship a bomb. Also I did notice them walking funny as they turned around and walked awayafter telling me no.

Our local UPS Store WILL NOT touch a gun or gun part, but our local "hub" will ship anything. Our local USPS will ship ANYTHING. I had an experience trying to send a gun stock (laminated piece of wood)back to the manufacturer. Like someone else said, it was like trying to ship a bomb through the UPS Store, but I walked directly across the street to the USPS and mailed it, and the rate was LESS than UPS. I only use USPS now.

the united states post office will ship guns. not pistols.i ship my muzzleloaders for me and friends 2 months ago, no problems.you must show them gun before you seal the box so they know its unloaded.thats all they are scared of,a loaded gun.as for pistols it must go thru a ffl dealer etc with copy of the permit.if anyone gives you hard time, go 1 step up ladder. ask them in nice way if you can talk to the DISTRICT manager not local one.70,000 dollar a year job goes to some of these local knuckleheads.now that employees delivering mail are making up to 60,000,its affecting their heads too. funny how money will turn people into a bigshot and some think they are above the average person.
