Scope advice for a newbie.

I'd have to agree with both tahquamenon and mouthcaller, as well as some others who've responded. I also have the New Frontier with the Pine Ridge scope, and haven't had any problems so far - but I expectI willone of these days. I was going to make the statement that Taq did about getting the best optics you can afford, but since he already did, I won't say it
. But get the best optics you can afford; they'll pay you back in a sharper and brighter image, as well as more durability over the long run. Since you didn't get yours in a package deal, don't get a cheepy.

I Have an old Weaver K4 on my plains rifle. I used the T/C quick detach mounts on it. The whole set up works fine where I hunt and the rifle it is on.
You don't always need a variable scope which do cost more than a fixed power.
I like my 4 power fixed scope for the ranges I hunt. If I were going to hunt yardages beyond 150 yards I might think about a 6 power.
All this babbling is trying to get the point across that you can buy a better (brandname)quailty scope for less money if it's a fixed power.
