Default Not recomended but good to know.

It's been real busy around the house lately and getting out to hunt was pretty hard this year except my trip to camp on which I was skunked.

Well my Encore had been left loaded and it has looked fine so I took care of more pressing things hoping to get it out for some range time but that didn't happen so I took it apart last night to clean and put away and am very happy with how well it weathered the abuse.

I had shot it twice at camp to put fresh loads in it using the alchohol and dry patch between shots methode and it sat with the third round loaded in it for about 7 weeks.

Well took it apart drove the round out of the breech put a couple patches of Hoppes bp solvent down the bore a couple of dry ones then some Hoppes No 9 because I could not believe how clean the other patches were but they came out clean as well. I guess I was just lucky or Triple Se7en is as non-corrosive as smokeless.

Well? I think you have helped confirm something I felt all along. I am an old centerfire hunter shooter, I have always gone out before hunting season and shot to verify POI and then I would not do a thing with the gun until the end of hunting season, unless it got wet then that would trigger some maintenece - not a strip clean but maintenance.

For years now, since converting to T7, I have done about the same thing. I shoot it pre-season check POI - probably- maybe two-three shots. I bring it home and swab the barrel with windex and dry patches - put a very lightttttt thinnn coat of gun oil in the bore and it remains that way til I am done using it. Some loads have remained in the barrel up to 3 weeks without any ill-effects. Again, weather can and does alter this routine. But if things remain dry it remains as is. I will not field strip and clean until the end of the season.

I do not recommend this for everyone but I am really comfortable.

I guess I was just lucky or Triple Se7en is as non-corrosive as smokeless.
There are a lot of people that will tell you that t7 is smokeless with charcoal added for effect. It certainly is not nitocel' but it certainly is not BP or sulphur based. I belive itdoes contain an acid and if it or its residue gets wetit can have adverse effects on your barrel -

OK - probably said to much already so I am done...

That's good to know about Triple Se7en powder. I always heard that Pyrodex was the fastest to start corrosion in a barrel if left unchecked.

I notice it coats the bore with a white powder that comes right off and doesn't seem to build up. Anyhow about the only stuff I shoot nowadays is Triple Se7en and GOEX 3F. I keep giving away pounds of RS and I still have 4 of them. I should use some of it to break in my new cheap $109 inline the name of it escapes me right now. Oh that's right it's an Omega.

(Sorry Cayugad lol)

I do this and it's probably not recommended either.

I'll shoot a few shots before season to check POI. I will then do a light cleaning. Before I go out to hunt, I'll fire a primer in it and then load it. When that day is over and if I haven't shot anything, I will put the loaded ML, without a primer in it, in the gun safe. I'll break the breach open so the air gets to the back side of the powder also. The golden rod helps to keep the pyrodex dry and I haven't had any corrosive problems yet.

I have thought about "what if" the charge went off in the safe and ruined all my guns but I can't think of why it would. Anyone else do this?
