my 7 yearold son got lucky before he had to go to school this moring out behind the house,we finally got to see the chicken foot buck when he was with me. I have seen him 3 times on a small food plot i put in the edge of the woods right behind the house but haley was never with me,this moring right at daylight he steped out in front of us about 30 yards. Haley waited for him to turn his head and then he raised his gun and shot. The buck dropped in his tracks. This is his 2 buck with his 45 cal ml. I had the gun loaded with 50 gr of 777 and a185gr. 38 cal xtp hollowpoint using a blue hornady sabot. He hit it in the neck at a angle ,it broke the neck and it looks like the shoulder on the exit side got broke also the bullet must have exploded and whats left of itis in the shoulder. He is shooting a modified gun his papaw fixed for him ,its a old cut down cva barrel onwhat looks like a bobcat stock that has had 3 in cut of the but. He has been shooting the gun for 3 years now. Last year in the same plot he got his first 5 point .The 50 gr. of powder is all it needs at these close ranges. The one he shot lastyear had a complete passthrough shot through the lungs,it ran off ito the brush but missed the trail and got caught in the vines we could see the vines jerking untill it died. I bet he has a smile when he walks in that schoolroom this moring. His teacher is the daughter of our local gamewarden so the kidds in their room get lots of visits from the gamewardons. I think the wardons just come to the firstgrade class to pump the kids to see which fathers have been killing the (most) deer.Thoes kidds will tell them about anything they ask. Any way i think the wardons being around the kidds will have a + outlook of the way the kidds act around hunting, I know it has been good for my son .

Congratulatons to to your son.. that's a fine looking buck. Seven years old to boot and already took two bucks. You are raising him well. As you said that load he is shooting is all that is needed at close range. And from the picture did the trick. I bet his Dad is proud as punch also, with good reason to be.

My nephew wanted to hunt this year but in Wisconsin they have to pass a hunter safety and then be of a certain age to even hunt. Also the first year I think it is they have to be with an adult which would not have been a problem. Next year will be his turn. I told him to pass hunter safety and to study hard in school, behave and get good grades, and I promised him I would take him deer hunting. Having the company will be fun.

Taking young people hunting and teaching them the right way to do things is one of the best foundations you can give a young person for the rest of what they will face in life. little-d I commend you for taking the time to teach your son the right way and for making the time to make sure he gets an opportunity. All too often in this busy world we see children ignored by their parents ... that is until the parents have to spend countless hours chasing after the child. Again congratulations to both of you.

Excellent - I love to see the youngins getting involved and being successful. Keep up the mentoring. We need more young ethical hunters out there.

It reminded me of the times I had deer hunting with my boys when they were just little guys just starting out. The stories they told and how they told them to grandma and grandpa after they both got their first deer are priceless and are burned in my memory banks to re-live over and over again.

here is haley with his buck. We have been calling this buck ole chicken foot because his horn looks like a chicken foot on one side. We saw this buck about 4 weeks ago when we came up the driveway one night,and i have seen him 2 or 3 times, one afternoon i had to wait on him to leave the foodplot so i could get out of my stand.
