LMF browing chemical from (track of the wolf) : I just finished a Renegade Flinter in 54 cal that came out super: follow the instruction that come with the bottle ,I found the best results is to just dampen the chemical on the barrel and let sit for about 12 hours ,then reply before carding .I used a old blue jean material to card.
I would say it took about 8 to 10 coats total for a dark brown
Remember do not apply the chemical to heavy I found a small cotton cloth about 2 inch square works well ,try even strokes from end to end

I WOULD SAY IT WAS MAYBE THE FRIST YEAR THEY CAME OUT WITH IT AS A KIT A REAL LOW SERIAL NO# AND ALSO THE TANG HAS 2 WOODS SCREW
THAT HOLD IN PLACE ON THE STOCK.
I HAVE TO SAY IT A REAL SHOOTER WITH A 100 GRAINS OF 3F GOEX A WAD AND 230 GRAIN ROUND BALL SHE WILL GROUP SOFT BALL ALL DAY AT THE 100 YARD TARGET AND REMEMBER IT MY FAVORITE CAL: 54

My first Renegade was a .54 caliber kit rifle I got in the early 80's and it has the double screws through the tang. Also like yours, with 90 grains of Goex and a .530 roundball it will really shoot. I loaned it one year to a friend of mine to use during the last weekend of muzzleloader season and he popped a nice little doe at over 100 yards. He said he figured the ball would drop so he aimed for the spine and broke her back with the shot. My other two Renegades are of the same style but higher serial numbers. They really are a great rifle. The only draw back of the Renegade for me is when it is loaded hot, it tends to smack me in the cheek bone when I shoot it from a bench rest. By the end of the day, there is some real pain there. Other then that I think they are a good looking rifle and well made.

Did not mean to steal your thread...
I browned mine with some stuff that is not even made anymore and it was a lot of work... 25 years later it is still the same color. My friend who buys rifles in the white and then puts them together to make a little extra money (which he never does because he never sells one) uses Birchwood Casey and Brownell products for his barrels and stocks. Next time I see him I will get some more information for you....
