Like Hale87, A friend of mine and I were hunting black bear in New Brunswick. We hunted the afternoons and evenings and as such were at the lodge finishing breakfast and watching CNN when we realized what was going on. Like Hale87, we too were both from western Pennsylvania and we realized how close to home this tragedy was occuring. We called home as things unfolded and realized that everyone was in a state of shock. Dan was really concerned as he left his wife and newborn son at home when we departed for our hunt. I was single at the time and could really see his concern grow as the news reports came in. Dan was able to take his bear on 9-11 and I arrowed a 300 lbs. boar the next day. However we were in a state of limbo, we were finished with our hunt, but were unable to leave due to the borders being closed. We planned on ending our hunt early and returning home but couldn' t. When the borders were finally opened, my stongest memories were driving back along US 95 and seeing every overpass filled with people (strangers) holding hands and waving American flags. Cars passed and sounded their horns in a show of solidarity I had never witnessed. When we would stop for gas/food it seemed as if everyone wanted to speak to you in an effort at comforting their own concerns.
As we continued through Conneticut toward New York and Pennsylvania we could see the smoke and debris in the sky from the Wold Trade Center, a reminder of how solemn this event was. My heart goes out to the people that lost family in that incident and the families that have lost soldiers fighting the bastards that did this. It was a hunt/time I will never forget.

Husband was in the shower getting ready for work. I heard the phone ring and it was his brother telling us to turn on the TV, a plane had hit one of the towers. We watched in disbelief and saw the 2nd plane hit. Then my husband had to go to work, he' s a fireman. I just sat and watched the TV. I couldn' t get away from it. Had to run out and feed my horses & dogs but I had the radio on in the barn. My husband called several times to see if I was doing OK. Thank God we have President Bush instead of that other freak.
God Bless the USA.
