Congrats on your first. I don' t think theres a lot you can do about the rubbed out fur. Once its on the floor (rug?), you can brush some defects out. If theres good long hair up grain from the problem area. Kind of like a comb over. lol

Congrats on the bear! Depends on where the rubs are located. Sometimes you can have a shoulder mount and the taxidermist can work around the rub. But, if you are really set on a rug, have the taxidermist do the best he can and be happy with the fond memories oif a successful hunt!

congratulations on the first bear of you life ,

as for the thinning , have you considered asking several of the taxidermists in your area what they could do with it ???
that might be the best way to find out what they themselves can do for it , and for what price

Sometimes the rubbed spots are less noticeable after the taxidermist paints the hide in the bare spots the same color as the rest of the hide.
You can still see them under close examination, but from a distance they are much
less noticeable.

I have seen a number of hides which have had rubs or arm-pit bald spots touched up with a matching stain. A good taxidermist will stain the hide from both sides. The ones I have seen have been hard to tell unless you know exactly where to look. Provided its only rubs and not hair that has slipped from poor hide care, a taxidermist should be able to fix it up pretty good.
