I have seen a number of hides which have had rubs or arm-pit bald spots touched up with a matching stain. A good taxidermist will stain the hide from both sides. The ones I have seen have been hard to tell unless you know exactly where to look. Provided its only rubs and not hair that has slipped from poor hide care, a taxidermist should be able to fix it up pretty good.
