2009 spring bear hunt

What style of hunt are you doing? Are you baiting or spot and stalk?
Bears are hard to judge. Look for a big head and small ears..... and a crease in the head where the muscle has been built up. Bigger bears also have a swagger when they walk.
Aim well and shoot straight....... good luck on your hunt.
If I had more info I might be able to help you out but I have never hunted in NC for bear and every area is different in some way or another

Baiting eh?
What are you using for bait?
As for a gun..... whatever you feel comfortable with. A stout .243 would work or a 30-30 would do the trick too. Just put the shot where it counts.
I use bow only, so have little experience with rifles and bears. I set up my stand about 17yds away from the bait and shoot them there. With a rifle or muzzleloader I would set up a little farther away..... so 75 to 100yds if you can.
Alot of bears come in late around where hunt so being close gives me that few extra minutes that I may need to make a shot. Us e a scope with a gun and it will probabley do the same thing.
Enjoy your hunt.... when your first bear comes in it is a wild feeling

South eastern Manitoba public land known as Sandilands provincial forrest.
I haven't been able to get back out yet due to work. My hunting partners went out and put more grease out nd set up cams on som of the spots. We have strike indicators set at the others to tell if they have been hit.
Here's a few pics of my set up from last yr. I moved this bait to another location about 500yds away. hopefully it was a good move.
