Hunting in Idaho
I am going to Northern Idaho Elk hunting in October.
I have never been in Idaho before, what weight/ type
clothes would you folks reccommend?
There is not a requirement to wear Orange, but I am
going to at least wear a orange hat, maybe more.
Also, any other suggestions appreciated!

hey old guy:
I would get some high tech layers. You should expect to have daytime highs in the 60s and over night lows to the mid 20s for the best case and the worst case could and probably will be highs of 30 and lows of minus 10. Your worst enemy will be getting wet so thats where the high tech comes in. Be sure to have some very good rain gear -- not just a slicker or garbage bag but, some real stuff the stuff that costs like $350 or more for the suit. Stay completely away from any cotton. It is also very possible for you to wake up to 5 feet of snow one morning.

Oldguy,
Will you be hunting the panhandle area? I would definately get some loose fitting clothing. I have hiked all overnorthern Idaho. The morning can be very cold and warm up by afternoon. Definately want to be able to remove layers of clothing as the weather changes. There may be snow in October, but usually notmore than1 foot ifin the higher elevations. I'm not a weather expert, but this has been my experience.

You definitely want to layer. When I was out there last year in September there was extreme weather changes. And to answer your clothing question, some good rain gear, Browning hydro fleece is awsome and a pair of wool pants were nice when we got the snow dumped on us.
