Nope, the wife has to work so i get to stay home with the kids and next week i am "on-call" for work and cant leave town. But i will get to hunt the whole next weekend.

On_Point 09-28-2012 11:50 AM

Quality time with little ones is good & also plenty of time for some whitetail tv.
I just picked up the 'Whitetail Adrenaline' video down at the archery shop. The Mrs & I watched it last night & we'de highly recommend it. Though its not how we hunt, it was super entertaining. Have fun with the kiddos Marty.

Greetings! Ok, made the trip out last night for the first time. It was a wonderful afternoon/evening being up in the tree and out in the woods once again. Nice time re-calibrating my ears for the sounds of the woods dealing with squirrels, turkeys and finally deer. Watched a group of does for probably 15 mins, that was it. Maybe 30 yards off, never knew I was there. Wished the robins a safe flight south for the winter and called it a night. All in all not too bad.... I enjoyed it

Bowman4440 09-28-2012 02:12 PM

jason id recommend Heartland Bowhunters, they have this season on Vimeo.com they are down to earth guys and really entertaining and its not just them sitting in a tree stand shooting deer they show you everything. Oh and the Monster bucks series by realtree ive watched that since i was 9 or 10 and its a typical hunting show but man do they shoot some slammers!

sdhunter11 09-28-2012 03:28 PM

Anybody wanna wager on how many hunting violations ted nugent gets this year lmao.

Mottz 09-28-2012 04:35 PM

Bowman, I've met the guys from Heartland and they are like you say realy down to earth and nice guys. And their show is really good!

On_Point 09-28-2012 09:06 PM

I've followed their show, along with Whitetail properties, Whitetail Inc. & Bowhunt or die. The latter 2 are webisode, but still great shows.

On_Point 09-29-2012 08:28 PM

Well, our hunting co-op is the proud new owner of a Panasonic HDC-TM90.
That's a digital camcorder btw. 8) Also purchased Sony Vegas Pro & a camera mount. Still have to get a lapel mic & a back-up battery from amazon, but we are officially whitetail videographers. Thank you Master Card. Lol

sdhunter11 09-30-2012 07:48 AM

I will keep looking for the leprachaun on the oudoor channel lol, You have to have that pipe with you when you film your next hunt lol.

But seriously, that is neat, I wish i wasnt the only bowhunter in the county. It would be fun to team up with somebody and do some filming.

On_Point 09-30-2012 08:56 AM

You're a real funny guy Marty. Lol

We're heading to camp here in a few. 18 hours & counting!!!

sdhunter11 09-30-2012 09:45 AM

Sounds like a blast? good luck jason and make sure u pack enough beer.

Mottz 10-01-2012 03:52 AM

Not to much happening yesterday. Seen 1 doe crossing the beans and 8 longbeards in the pasture. Did have pics of alot of does in front of 1 of my other stands yesterday morning though. Guess I picked the wrong stand to sit in.

Gentlemen i got an 8 point on the ground this weekend. I will try to find time today or tomorrow to get it scored and entered. Wasn't the bigger one I was looking for but with buying a new house that needs a little work i figured filling my tag early will keep me focus on getting the house done and out of the woods. It will prolly backfire and make me want to go hunting more but oh well. Hopfully this will get us going as a team.
Also, are we allowed to enter a buck and a doe?

Go get em guys.

sdhunter11 10-01-2012 07:32 AM

Congrats risner, That is a nice buck. yes you are allowed to enter 1 buck and 1 doe.

dmax4me 10-01-2012 07:58 AM

Congrats Risner, That's the first buck for the team.
Now get a doe for an additional 25 points.

Bowman4440 10-01-2012 01:01 PM

On_Point 10-02-2012 05:36 AM

Congratulations Ryan! Helluva buck.

On_Point 10-02-2012 05:43 AM

Jason, that's a great spot your hunting. I expect to see big things come outta there. 8)

On_Point 10-02-2012 06:24 AM

Well, IL opener was yesterday. I was on stand by 5:30am. Had 5 does walk in to the maple grove around 7:30 or so, but they never came in range. They browsed around at 75 yards for over an hour & then headed to bedding. About 9:10 they came back through at a full run directly into my set. I have no idea what spooked em, but I'm guessing hunters on the neighboring property. Around noon I headed to my evening set & filmed deer browsing & bedding all afternoon in a dried up back water slew. Around 6pm they started walking into me, heading into the ag field behind me. I had a group of 9 does walk directly under stand. I waited for the old grey nanny doe to walk into my lane, I drew on her undetected, I took the shot & I swear I nailed her perfectly. She barreled down the slew in the direction she was facing. The other deer scattered & after 20 minutes I climbed down, retrieved my arrow, soaked in bright red, bubbly blood. I was psyched. I packed my gear, walked it back to the truck, got the lantern & my game cart & went back to track her down. The initial blood trail was good but once she broke into the crp 50 yards away the trail went cold. I searched for an hour before calling in a friend. We searched till around 10 before I had to head home so my wife could go to work at 11pm. She should be back here shortly & I'm heading back out to search some more. Crazy first day.

sdhunter11 10-02-2012 06:56 AM

I hate it when deer run into sloughs, hope you find her jason.

On_Point 10-02-2012 10:37 AM

Well, I spent roughly 3 hours this morning searching & didn't find her. I'm really thinking that I only got one lung on her. I watched the video I was filming a thousand times & the hit looks good. I could follow the blood into the crp about 30 or 40 yards but there are so many trails she could have run that I just searched in grid pattern through the crp after a while, but this crp parcel is 85 acres & hasn't been maintenance in over 5 years. It started feeling pretty hopeless. I did ask the land owner to watch for buzzards so I'll know if she's dead or just wounded. Better luck next time I guess. Hell, at least I got the ****ty hunt out of the way on opening day. The next one has to be better than this one, even if I don't shoot a deer.

sdhunter11 10-02-2012 01:26 PM

At least you can say you put up an honest effort. Its all uphill from here lol.

BUCKEYEhunter140 10-02-2012 08:40 PM

well guys no bucks yet for me. im waiting on the weather to get cooler before i kill adoe

good luck team

Bowman4440 10-03-2012 01:09 PM

Yea im with buck eye no slick heads getting shot for me yet in the 80's the rest of this week, hopefully it starts to cool off then you can count on an old slick head going down.

On_Point 10-04-2012 08:46 AM

Heading out for an evening hunt. We have a storm front moving in this afternoon accompanied by much cooler temps. I'm expecting to see the deer on their feet. Talk to yall later.

sdhunter11 10-04-2012 04:25 PM

weather looks good for this weekend here, it is 39 F right now, it is suppose to be a high of 46 F tomarrow and saturday, and sunday is a high of 59 so it should be a good weekend. good luck this evening jason.

Outdoorcountry 10-05-2012 01:24 PM

Saw Jason's post last night and decided to hit the woods on the way home from work. Had a doe come out of the woods 15 yards from my stand. Had a perfect 1/4 away shot, drew, placed the just behind the the shoulder and thwap! Except she jumped the string and the arrow went right over her back! She went out into the field further and stopped at 35 yards broadside. The 2nd shot lunged her and she ran about 60 yards before she dropped. Another 25 pts for team 7.
