Good luck Stealth!!
Robow- something like that walks by me out on the public i'd have to put it down but I'd definatly give it another year on my own land. |
I heard from "garett12" but he didn't officially check in yet. Has anyone else heard from him yet? I"ll try to pm him again if need be.
|
Well saw two bucks last night. The bigger of the two stayed just out of range but he was tall and had visible G2's,3's, & 4's. Mass didn't seem too impressive and never had a good look at the width. I wasn't real impressed, but who knows with a better look he may be bigger than I thought. Hopefully I will get another look at him come Saturday.
|
At least you seen some deer stealth. I will be out tomorrow morning. 50 degrees with a 30% chance of rain but I've been waiting to long not to go sit in a stand.
|
I went out this afternoon - the first hunt of the year helps me sort out all the bits and pieces, lol. I only forget my binos. I had 2 does and 2 fawns in range, but a wind shift put them on alert and I passed up the shot opportunity. I hope to get out tomorrow afternoon.
Good luck with opener's luck Mottz! -fsh |
Yep fsh, the wind is the enemy. Plenty of time though. Give us a report on tomorrows action.
|
Good luck in the morning guys I'll be pullin for ya. We still got 2 weeks till we can get out so I'll be huntin thru yalls posts..lol
|
Had a couple does within 10 yards of me this am. They were under the limbs and when they turned to walk away, they just went straight ahead. So I never got a good shot opportunity at them. It was still exciting though!
|
Hows it goin?
|
i am so tired! woke up at 4:45 to go hunting in central mn. had a doe and two fawns at 10 yards. checked my cameras (no decent bucks) then went to wisconsin for the afternoon hunt. scouted for about and hour and then setup. saw a small buck and a doe and then a doe and a fawn. that was it for deer.
However, I did have a bobcat walk by at about 5 yards and then about half an hour later a big ole momma bear and 2 cubs walked right by me. i about crapped my pants when one of the cubs got within a couple feet of my tree. i thought that little crap head was coming up the tree. that wouldn't have been a good situation. pretty exciting hunt for my first time out though. hauled all my crap out of the woods and drove back to mn. long day.... |
Even though you came away with nothing Rack, it sounds like a pretty eventful day. Better than not seeing a thing!
|
First blood yesterday afternoon - took a 20yd "war shot" at this groundhog that has been showing up on my cam covering the foodplot. Centerpunched him, good riddance! The only doe I saw was well out of range.

Varmint control! Well done fsh!
|
Cool fsh! I love rippin varmints when I can.
I went out a couple times on our early doe season. I didn’t have any luck but did see a buck we’ll be after this year. We call him Fonzie. We name the bucks for a couple reasons but mainly to help ID them when someone sees them. Last year it was don’t shoot Fonzie he needs a year or two. Looks like he only needed one. He’s not a giant but he looked pretty good Saturday. We know he’s at least a 3.5 year old and that’s saying something for Michigan. I’ll post some t-cam pics of him soon. |
I want to see those trail pics robow!
Hey where did everyone go? Team chat took one heckuva decrease here! |
[quote=Mottz;3850607]I want to see those trail pics robow!
I realized they are videos and I need to see how to post them. Actually you can see Fonzie if you click the link below. Click the green hoof print and he is the one third from the bottom. If you watch the show pay no attention to the dork leaning on the truck with the red hat on. http://www.midwestwhitetail.com/states/michigan |
That's a pretty good vid Robow - keep at him (them) and good luck!

just got back from cabelas. oh, is my wife going to kill me when she sees the credit card bill. picked up some axis arrows and a very painful in the wallet lone wolf climber. i like my summit but it packs so far off my back that it's a pain to carry. buyers remorse i guess.
i went out last night in 25/30 mph winds and guess what? i didn't see anything. not even a bird or a squirrel. same stand i got my first buck (of 3 :)) last year in. checked the camera and there's a nice 10 and 8 hanging out there. so, at least i now have some prospects in mn. i've had no shooter pics for the past 3 weeks. |
I was planning on going out today, but the rain had other plans today. Gah it needs to be cooler!
|
sorry guys....I've been a little absorbed in work and haven't been on...
Who is hunting now? I still have to wait till October 15 (but have a wedding to do!) might not get into the woods until the 17th. |
Gonna be heading out tomorrow for the weekend. I'll hopefully have some pics to post on Monday. Got a few dandy's pushing mid 130's that have been hanging around a big oak flat lately, so we'll see what happens. Suppose to be 40 degrees Sat morning, so hopefully we can catch a good one moving and in bow range!!

Good Luck Phish!
|
I'll be goin out saturday here in Ohio. I'll be here for the next couple weeks and then i'm headed to Indiana the second week of October.
|
Good to see more guys getting out hunting. Good luck guys! I'll be heading out Sunday.
|
I hunted a dense thicket with hopes that a buck would show. A few oaks are starting to drop in there. I heard a few deer moving thru but never saw them.
Heavy rain in the forecast for Friday, so Saturday will be my next chance. -fsh |
Good luck guys. I still have another week before I can get out there and give the area a good look over.

Going tomorrow for first hunt of season.
|
good luck garret!
|
Going to be interesting tomorrow. Taking my older sister out and shes going to be armed with a camera. Shes never been out so I hope she has some real good nature experiences. Plus I hope I can get one down so she can have an up close and personal with one.
|
Good going Mottz - get her involved!
This afternoon was my first hunt of the season without seeing or hearing a deer - lots of turks around... -fsh |
Had a small 3x3 right under me this morning. But thats about all I seen. My sister seen quite a few does and got a couple good pics. She had a great time and I think is hoping to go out some more. So I was successful in turning someone into a "peaceful morning in the woods" person.
|
Glad to see your havin a little action Mottz and I bet your sister had a heck of a time as well. It won't be too many sits and she'll be hooked like the rest of us.
I'm just a few days out from my first crack at it and can hardly sleep. I'll leave the house about 3 am this Sat to get there by daybreak, walk the half to 3/4 mile back to where i'm gonna sit and hopefully after a couple hours have a little action myself and maybe let the one fly (or at least avoid all the dang ticks) ;). The turkeys like to hold up in the fall where I'll be at so who knows I might bring one home to smoke for early Thankgiving... |
back from hunting all weekend. my cameras are all broken too. they only take pictures of does.
i did manage to get a doe on sunday morning. i'll post pictures tonight, just haven't taken them off the camera yet. i smoked her, she only went about 50 yards. it's the only deer my buddy and i saw all weekend. he actually spooked her to me. pretty pathetic though - i was checking the cameras all weekend trying to find that one doe that was constantly going to my salt licks. we narrowed down the two most likely stands and she showed up at both :). can't believe we were focusing in on one doe. that's how bad it is at my land lately. going to let it sit until mid oct now. |

Thought yall would like to see this. Here is a mount of deer that was poached back in 2009 the night before our bow season began here in Oklahoma. When they raided the guys house they found like 103 differant sets of antlers and even though the guy had a lifetime license he had only check in 4 deer in his life time. If you would like to check the story out just google The BP Buck in Oklahoma.
|
absolutely terrible picture. sorry about that. i wanted to hurry up and get her cooled off so i didn't bother cleaning her up. it's my buddy's bow.

Congrats, Rack! she looks like she is still nursing or just recently having weaned.... there's some little ones to carry on the family name....maybe one will have some buttons on his head....

Nice Job Rack! Way to smack one!!

Below is what I wrote for a blog I contribute to on another site. It’s kind of long but it sums up my youth hunt weekend.
Rob - South Central Michigan We’re back from the youth hunt in Isabella County. Although we came home without a deer we had a great time. Saturday morning I let my filming partner Dan film for my son Conner. I was going to sit with Conner’s friend but he couldn’t make it. So I decided to sit in a gun blind at the other end of the property. Dan and Conner didn’t see a deer opening morning but me? I had three bucks walk by at about fifteen yards! Two eight points and a ten point that had to be 18” wide! Needless to say Dan and I will be back up north soon. Conner passed on a spike that afternoon. After telling him what I saw that morning and viewing some of the trail cam pictures he knew there were better bucks in the area. I filmed for Conner Sunday morning and we had a great encounter with a doe. She came in from our left. Conner drew his bow as she went behind a small tree but before she stepped into the opening she turned to her right and stopped. After about ten or twenty seconds I told Conner to let up. Just then she took a step and it looked like he would have shot. She just needed two more steps. After another twenty seconds or so I told Conner to let up again but just like before she took another step and stopped. The doe was broadside at eight yards and we needed her to take about a half a step before he could get off a clean shot. I looked over at Conner and by now his bow was shaking pretty well. Just then the doe looked up at us and I knew it was over. I told Conner to let up and he finally did. His first words to me after this encounter were” I think I’m going to throw up!” I was really proud of him he could have shot through the leaves of that small tree but he waited for a clean shot. Yes he was disappointed but after a cool encounter like that I think he now knows why I love bow hunting so much. |
