StealthHtr22 here to check-in. Sorry I'm late.

I'll be hunting Southwestern Indiana. The early (Urban) county season starts in my county on the 15th!

Mottz 09-09-2011 02:38 PM

Better late than never Stealth. Hope now that you know where you're at that you can keep up with our chat:D

kellyguinn 09-09-2011 04:07 PM

Glad ya made it Stealth.

Mottz 09-10-2011 07:05 AM

Just thought I'd post a couple pics from my cams this week. One week boys and I'll be sitting in a stand:woot::rock::kt:

Mottz 09-10-2011 11:34 AM

Anyone have an idea for a team avatar? Or do we want one?

If our name is "The Great 8's" why not an 8 with a set of antlers...lol I'm not real creative especially with a computer though.

Mottz 09-10-2011 01:08 PM

kelly, I'll see if what I explain makes any sense. In big, bold, shadow like background have GR8. Then forward of that either have a 4x4 deer or a deer with special antlers that say VIII. That make any sense? Maybe I can talk to the kid to see how to do that.

fshafly2 09-10-2011 02:05 PM

Nice bucks Mottz, good luck with 'em! Give the avatar a shot...

What are yalls views on using feeders and minerals and such. I personally don't have a problem with it where it is allowed. Especially if ya don't have a large piece of property to plant a good food plot.

It is also great for getting the deer infront of the camera just to see what ya have before the season gets goin... ;)

Mottz 09-10-2011 06:28 PM

If its allowed where you are then its no problem to me. Its illegal here. I have corn, beans, wheat and milo where I hunt so they have plenty to choose from. I do put out mineral in May and then after season for picture purposes.

Brent B 09-10-2011 06:42 PM

Hey I've got a question for you guys. I will be graduating the end of next year(Ag/diesel mechanic) and like any other hunters dream I would love to work somewhere that is envolved in deer hunting in some way. I was thinking the other day some of these big outfitters that own thousands of acres probably do some farming. Thus needing a good mechanic with an agricultural background. So if you can think of anyway to help me get my name out there I would appreciate it very much.

Mottz 09-11-2011 09:58 AM

Not sure what to tell ya Brent.

Well, I must be excited for Saturday because I just got my truck loaded up with all my hunting gear today. I just have to shoot a few arrows everynight this week to get the kinks in my arm and shoulders worked out and have a buddy sharpen a few knives for me and I'm ready. Now, how the heck am I going to get this work week to go fast??

Mottz 09-11-2011 12:47 PM

Hey guys, I have a good hunting tool for ya.

http://www.scoutlookweather.com/

Go check this website out. I've kinda watched it last year but I just registered with it today. What it is, is a all weather station for the hunter. You can find your land (very good detail), zoom in and actually mark your treestand. Then there is this scentcone feature that when you hit it, it shows which direction your scent would be blowing. Plus it has sunrise/sunset times, moon phase and a detail of weather conditions. Its pretty cool. Check it out and let me know what you think.

RackLuster 09-11-2011 06:53 PM

brent - can't help you. wish i could though. i have a little john deere diesel (950). just got it last year. i'm learning. it's funny how these tractors go. it seems like there's always something to fix. right after i fixed a hydraulic leak i got 2 more. now, my loader can barely lift the bucket up and has hardly no down pressure. damn things. :) good thing is i have all winter to figure it out.

mottz - you sound like a little kid before christmas. i'm pretty pumped myself but my truck isn't loaded yet :)

i have a lot of shooting to do this week. i had surgery to remove a rib on my right side a couple months ago. still hurts a bit while shooting. i've only been shooting 4/5 arrows a night. 2nd year in a row w/ a surgery right before hunting. i gotta learn to time this stuff better.

good luck to everyone hunting this coming weekend.

fshafly2 09-12-2011 01:26 AM

Good luck with the job hunt Brent.

Mottz - good info there.

RL - ummm, try to hang onto those body parts, lol. Thanks and good luck back to you and & the rest of the team...

StealthHtr22 09-12-2011 05:43 AM

Brent - Post on a bunch of forums. You could start with Realtree's forums. Never know if an outfitter would see it there.

Mottz - Great site. Thanks for sharing.

Killed a big doe Sat night for NC opener, however, battery died on cell phone just after I took a pic and it didn't save it and left camera at home. Guess This contest doesn't work on the honor system. Sorry fellas!!!

No problem. Hopefully you can get more doe tags.

Brent B 09-12-2011 05:26 PM

What did ya do, eat it before you got home?:D Nice work getting one down. Thats gotta take a little bit off the nerves when that big guy comes walking out. Good Luck!

It was in the 90's here today but by Saturday, its going to be in the low 70's. Its a sign!!

kellyguinn 09-12-2011 06:01 PM

Congrats on the doe. Don't worry too much about not gettin the pick for the contest. I'm pretty sure it doesn't count for points anyway. Like Mottz said... get shake them nerves off before the big boy walks out!!! ;)

fshafly2 09-13-2011 02:12 AM

Ditto congrats Phish on your doe.

Although does do not count for points in this deer contest, please post doe pics in the team thread anyway so we can share in your success.

Weather is looking good for my afternoon hunt Thursday. I'll take 69 degrees any day in September.

Only thing going down though is a P&Y! Hopefully he'll decide to make an appearance.

Arjuna 09-13-2011 12:49 PM

good luck, thursday!

Mottz 09-13-2011 04:17 PM

Good luck Stealth! Don't be afraid to shoot a doe though!

Mottz 09-13-2011 06:45 PM

I noticed that there is only 1 team that has a name. Are we not allowed to have names this year? Or do we go by Team 8?

kellyguinn 09-13-2011 06:52 PM

Man the weather here is just crazy! It topped 100 again today but the high thursday is gonna be 67. I sure hope it stays closer to the latter come October 1... :)

Arjuna 09-13-2011 09:10 PM

I think Brent B has to change the name of the thread...he can make it whatever he chooses. I think Gr8 VIII's or some variation has won...

Brent can you change the name of the thread to "Gr8 VIII's Official Team Thread" now...?

Brent B 09-14-2011 02:04 AM

I'm not sure how to I'll message a moderator after work about it.

fshafly2 09-14-2011 02:34 AM

Brent
Here is the procedure. Go to your first post. Click on "Edit". Then click on "Go Advanced". This will open up the title in a separate window. Change the title and then save your change by clicking "Submit Reply".

If you want to experiment first (as I did) - go to near the bottom of the huntingnet forum page (that lists all forum topics), and find "Technical Forum help", and click on "Test Posts". There you can create a test post, and change its title.

Thanks Mottz. I'll shoot a few does this archery season. I can't this weekend. Construction on my new processing area will not be complete until probably the first week of October, so once that's done, down the does go.

StealthHtr22 09-14-2011 08:23 AM

My wife isn't going to be happy....I need prayers! ;-)

I just received my shipping confirmation for the bow I just bought. I broke down and bought a Hoyt CRX32 Bone Collector Edition.

http://www.hoyt.com/compound_bows/details/crx+32

I don't spend much money on what I love to do most, so hopefully she'll understand. My current bow is a 2006 PSE. Time for an upgrade.

Nice bow! You're going to love it! I have what I call last year’s model which is the Maxis. A Hoyt rep let me shoot all the 2011 bows when I was in Iowa this summer. That’s one smooth bow.
The wife will understand…….If not it’s time to buy supplies for deer camp!

Brent B 09-15-2011 02:00 AM

Got a buck on my trail cam in ohio. He seems a little too friendly tho lol.

Mottz 09-15-2011 03:09 AM

Good Job getting the name up there Brent! Now we can get serious:s2:

Robow45 09-15-2011 05:17 AM

I pulled this of some video I shot back in June on our land in Ohio. He will (should) get a pass this year.
He is nice and wide but pretty young. We have three other bucks that have some age on them we’ll go after.

G-D he has some development for June! Good looking buck. If he survives another year, and gets a little taller, look out!

StealthHtr22 09-15-2011 01:36 PM

Alright boys, opening evening & my first sit for 2011...I'm cutting out of work 25 minutes early! Hopefully I'll have some good news with a pic! I'm out!

Centauri 09-15-2011 02:15 PM

Our hunting season starts Saturday but I probably won't end up going out until next week. Still looking for a place to sit.

fshafly2 09-15-2011 02:37 PM

RB - nice buck there, I like the wide ones.

We have a front going thru this afternoon, so I gave the opener a pass. I'll be out tomorrow afternoon.

Good luck guys!
