I'm gonna try and get in the tree this afternoon. I'll just have to keep an eye on Hanna. If it isn't too bad, the deer should be on the move. We shall see!

Can't say I've ever hunted ahead of a hurricane! We just have boring thinderstorms here...

NCRemington700 09-05-2008 10:39 AM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

They keep changing the forecast track for the storm so I might not be hunting ahead of a hurricane either!! Past experience tells me if they move well before a front/storm they would move well before a friggin hurricane. [&:] It will be a game time decision on weather (pun intended) or not I go for it.

We have that same storm heading here, but it will be extremely weekened, but it has a good chance of ruining my afternoon sit tomorrow.I had not planned on doing an AM hunt but since thier may not be an afternoon hunt I am going to find a place in the morning to sit and watch, but I am going to leave my stand areaalone untilI can have an afternoon hunt.

Hope you all stay safe.
I went out tonight and I think I am plagued with small bucks. I had 2 come in. One was just strange. He had 6 pts on one side and 3 on the other......... but was only a basket rack. I had 2 yearling does come in and never took the shot either. Then I had a basket rack 8pt come in. Whats with all these small bucks?[&:]
I'm headed out tomorrow to help a friend try to bag an elk. I'll be the caller and he'll be the shooter. Don't worry guys there is whitetails out there too;)
Good luck to all....... and if your not hunting......... stay safe:)

Sorry to hear that. Prayers sent.

Well I did manage to get in the woods for a little while yesterday before the hurricane ran me out. I saw 2 fawns, a 4pt, and a basket 6 pt. This afternoon there were 3 does in the beans when I got there at 5 pm. Nothing after that though. There was a lot of noise around the area this afternoon though...tractors, traffic, and dogs. Not to mention it was 90 degrees. No wonder the deer didn't move much. Oh well.

Well not much excitement here on my end. I'm working today and part of tomorrow and then I'm headed to the beach for the rest of the week. It doesn't look like I'll be getting back in the woods until Sunday.

All I'm seeing so far are young bucks, does, and fawns. The big boys must be waiting till dark to come out. Anyone else seeing much?

I saw nothing on my opening morning hunt. I am going out tomorrow as long as we don't get hit by the thunderstorm being predicted.

Sorry to hear abotu your loss PA.

No deer yet...still have 21 days to wait. Did put the whomp on some doves over the weekend, which was a good time. This cooler weather is getting the blood pumping though, season can't come soon enough!

Sorry to hear about your Grandpa, PA. My grandpa and I were inseperable during the summers when I was a kid. I still think of him daily.

Yoop, did you get any of those doves with the bowtech? Good warm-up for deer season. ;)

TTT
I'm heading back out this evening to hunt private land.
You all know I was waiting on permission for 2 other properties. Well 1 guy said NO due to liability reasons and the other guy had already said yes to another guy and he only allows one per season. Although he has given me permission for next yr........ and every yr after that. Good thing is I get a really good property to hunt on a river. Bad thing is its next yr.[&o]

Well I'm back from the beach. A good time was had by all. All we pretty much did was drink beer and fish...tough right!? I might be getting in the tree on Sunday afternoon but they are calling for a high of 92 so I might not. Starting on Monday I can hunt my other property. Also on Monday I can shoot does at both of my properties. Nannies beware!

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Wow, we're all the way at the bottom!! Well today marks opening day for me at my other property. I came in to work early so I can get out of here early to get to the woods. If a big boy doesn't show up...I'll be nanny whackin!

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Morning folks. Lots of rain here over the weekend, I was battling the water in my basement. Storm drain at the street backed up, and I guess the easiest route was into my basement, so I was swimming down there. Still 15 sleeps before we can hunt here in IL. Good luck NC, hopefully you can get a biggun'!

Paddles...that second deer looks good. He's a shooter in my woods!

I was able to get to the woods yesterday after work but after about an hour I got ran out by a thunderstorm. There's a front coming through that has dropped our temps a lot. The high yesterday was 93 and the high today is supposed to be 79. As long as it isn't thunderstorming this afternoon, I'll be back at it. I don't mind sitting in a little rain but I'm not fond of sitting in a tree with lightning/thunder around.

gutshotem 09-16-2008 05:49 PM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

I like that second buck too. Not bad at all for a PA deer.
I picked up my MD license today after work. Probably won't get out to hunt until Sat though.
Went on a final last minute scouting trip to Ohio this past weekend. Have another week and a half until their season
opens up, but my hopes are high.

That second buck is a shooter in my book. That first one would look pretty tempting come Dec and if I still had buck tags. :)

Managed to get in the woods again yesterday. It was a lot cooler but breezy. The wind never laid down and it was damp from rain so I couldn't hear anything. I didn't see a single deer. My buddy was hunting a few hundred yards away and had 3 does come in from the pines behind him, downwind. He never knew they were there until one blew at him. He said it scared the bejesus out of him since he didn't know they were there. :D He said they didn't see him so that's good.

Hey Christine...you too good for our team avatar?!?!

I will be getting out tomorrow afternoon, in 4 sits I have yet to see a deer, other than the dead 8 pointer a friend shot.Moved my stand tosome oak trees with alot of acorns down so hopefully that will help.Heading back up to my friends camp on the weekend to pull a couple of cameras that have been out for 3 weeks and hopefully wack a couple of coyotes. Will also be hanging a couple of stands for when Igo back up in October.

Got in the woods again yesterday evening...nothing. It was quiet the whole time. Oh well. I'm taking today off and then hitting it hard on Friday evening, Saturday morning and evening, and probably Sunday.

Wish I could hunt on sundays[&:][&:]
I'm headed out on sunday to do some work. I have to refresh my bear baits and trim some more shooting lanes on one of my deer stands. Then I'm headed out for a 2 day hunt tuesday and wednesday. Prolly sit for bear one night tho

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Finally got the permission I have been waiting on! I'm going to have probably only one chance to go and scout, and that will probably be to find at least one tree to hunt from. With only 11 days till the opener, I don't really want to go tromping around the whole property. I've never even seen it yet, so who knows what it holds. It is in a good area, with water/cover from what the landowner says, so we'll see. Did up my arrows last night, look real purty! Good luck to you guys this weekend!

Mike, I think next year you need a good ole South Carolina boy to help you hunt all that Illini property! :D I was up in Schyuler Co. last fall and it is some pretty country. It was quite the feeling knowing that "the one" could step out at any time. Good luck with your scouting.

It's supposed to get down to about 58 degrees tonight. I can't remember the last time it has been that cool in September down here. We shall see!!

well....its doe only here in my section of PA......and it is hard letting bucks walk by. Filmed my friend shooting a nice doe that came in with a buck still in full velvet (most are hard here). Then i went out and got busted by a freaking cow of a doe.....going out again tomorrow evening....hope to get a doe.

I took my cousin to my farm on Saturday to try and get him his first deer. He had the green light to shoot whatever he wanted. He had a spike at 20-25 yards and didn't shoot! [:@] He said he didn't feel comfortable with the range. I told him if he had been practicing all summer like I told him too he would have felt good about the shot!! Oh well, the season is young. I saw 11 out of that same stand last night. They came to the beans just a little too late for a good shot.

gutshotem 09-22-2008 07:36 AM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Dave, I'd give the guy/kid props for not taking the shot if he wasn't 100% sure.
A lot of people get caught up in the moment and sling arrows when they shouldn't.

I got out for the first time in MD on Sat. Saw a couple deer in the bean fields, but nothing but a fox came by my stand all day.
Four more days until we head out to Ohio for the opener.

Don't worry Mike, that's what I told him. I told him exactly where the deer would come from, and they did. We have landscaping markers at 20, 30, and 40 yards in the beans for reference. I'm glad he didn't shoot if he didn't feel right about it. I told him that the cousin in me HAD to give him grief about not shooting, but the sportsman in me is glad that he did not shoot if he didn't feel "right" about the shot.
