Well Thanksgiving has come and gone. All I saw was a couple of does and a young 6. It has rained like hell all day Saturday and Sunday...we've got about 3 inches of rain at the house. I didn't get in the tree either day. I'll try again next weekend.

anyone still hitting the woods, I have about 9 days left to hunt here and will probably get out 2 more times. I have been out alot and have seen a total of 10 deer all season.

I'm still at it. I've got until January 1. I didn't think I was going to be able to hunt at all this weekend but plans have changed and I'll be out there.

I've changed stand locations a few times too. My last move I was in an area with some good sign. All I saw was a young 6 pt. Hopefully his daddy will show this weekend.

I'm getting aggressive...time is not on my side! Good luck everyone!

I'm still at it too, although passively at this point, since the orange army is out this weekend. Next weekend I can get back in the tree, Friday most likely. I'm kinda excited, since my ground recieved no gun pressure, I'm hoping it became a sanctuary of sorts, so we'll see!

I still have faith in you guys. Less and less... but it's still there. ;) ;)

Good luck!

Well I'll be able to hunt every day for the last 2 weeks of the season. They are shutting down our office and the plant for the last 2 weeks of December due to the economy! [&:] That might be agood time to look for another job! I've been wanting out of my current job for a while now anyways.

At least they are giving us the last 2 weeks of the season instead of after the 1st of the year.

I was able to get in the woods last night at my farm. I wasn't able to identify the deer I heard. There was a deer that was milling around right at dark, about 70 yards away. I decided to hit the grunt call to see if that would help close the distance. I grunted about 3 times and the deer came straight to me. Unfortunately it would not come out of some thick junk. I would like to think it was a cautious, big buck. It would take a couple of steps and stop, take a couple of steps and stop. There's lots of rubs in the area so I'm hoping I'm in his staging area before heading to the beans at dark. We shall see!

I'm getting back out on Friday, see what's left after gun season. What i'm really hoping to find (or not find) are tracks from trespassers. This is the first year this property is under new ownership, and the neighboring landowner has 16 guys that gun hunt, so hopefully they minded the fences. The neighboring landowner is famous around the area for "just making sure everything is ok" while walking around your land.

Looks good. Congrats again.

BTW, for those still hunting, I did see three decent bucks cruising the woods yesterday morning and I nearly splattered a little buck with my truck on the way home. It seems they are moving some.

I actually got up at 3am this morning to go hunting and then wussed out and went back to bed. [&o]

I'm heading out on Saturday Rem. Weather looks decent, I've been wanting an east wind since Oct. 1 and i'll have it on Saturday, yeehaw. Tomorrow looks REAL nasty with an ice storm warning, and sunday is going to be blowing like a gale. The may actually have reason to move on Saturday, so hopefully something can be accomplished. Good luck to you!

to my illinois teammates, tell me about schuyler county, is this a desireable place to hunt?

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Yessir, Schuyler is very good, home to some very high profile outfitters and skyrocketting land prices. Lots of the area has pretty nice hills and valleys. One of my best friends has a lease over there, 80 acres, and they usually see one or two pigs every year. He took a 197" last year with his bow.

My buddy has about 400 acres in schuyler county. They've killed a 170, 160, and a 150 so far this year. And he's complaining that they haven't shot anything "big"!! [&:] I was there last year, it's beautiful deer country, no doubt.

My old boss's brother has a 3000 acre lease their, he guides black bear and deer here in Maine and now gets his outfitting license their as well. I am sure I could get a pretty good deal on a hunt their. I believe he only outfitts for slug season,I am going to try and work out a DIY on his lease, can't hurt to ask.

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Absolutely, espoecially if he isn't going to bowhunt it. Gun season over there is ridiculous, LOTS of pressure. Bow season in that area can be real special though, especially during the rut. IF you can DIY it, you should be in for a real good time. The terrain I think lends itself to fairly fast knowledge of deer movements with all the ridges and draws, not a lot of hidden sign really. I only live about 45 min from Schuyler, and would be happy to scope the ground out with you!

That sounds like a pretty sweet deal!! I would try to get a bowhunt in if I were you. But like you said, it can't hurt to ask!

Mike, I'll be heading up your way the last week of October next fall. Myself and SCBigBuckHunter (Andy) booked a hunt up in Carroll County. We'll be driving up.

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Sweet! Most likely you'll pass right through where I live, since its hard not too because it is smack dab in the middle of the state. Are you guys going with an outfitter or a DIY hunt? Should be a good time to go, always good stuff that week. This year, the activity was a little later than I've seen, but that was mostly weather related I reckon. It was hot as hell during that time, lots of night movement.

NCRemington700 12-19-2008 06:11 AM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Yeah, I'm hoping for a cold snap that week. The one problem I have noticed is that the moon will be on it's way to full that week. Hopefully that won't make then too nocturnal. If it is cold enough, that should have them up moving in the middle of the day...in theory! :D My buddy that has the land in Schyuler county said they saw the best rutting activity the last week of October and the first week of November. I'm hoping that since we'll be farther North of there, we'll hit it just right. Needless to say, I can't wait for next fall!

We'll have to meet up for a cold one on our way through!

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Horrendous weather this weekend. 1/2" of ice fell on thurs night/fri morning, making it extremely dangerous to be in the woods with the branches falling. Saturay I wanted to get out, the weather was decent, but the wind picked up and the branches started raining again. I went out to my property and poked around a little, deciding if it would be safe to hunt, but after getting smacked about 10 times with falling debris, I headed back home. Yesterday was double digits below zero wind chill...so we went duck hunting! Managed 11 drakes and 4 geese, hell of a good day. My face will probably never be the same from the cold though. Our deer season goes until 1/15 so I should be able to get out again, weather permitting.

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I'm alive.
I purchased a new home back in October and haven't had internet access since (bought a forclosure and have been busy remodeling).
I've checked in from time to time here at work but was a little concerned about logging on because of our crazy IT staff.
However, I was just selected for a new job and will only be here a few more weeks anyway.

Anyway, Congrats to everyone that got it done this year. Sorry to say that I couldn't close the deal with my bow. I'd like to blame it on the new house affecting my time in the woods, but I was able to see quite a few deer the few days I hunted in OH, PA, and MD. I ended up taking a decent 7pt with the 300mag in PA and 2 doe the first day of flintlock so at least the freezer is full.

Again, Congrats to everyone on a fine season.
--Mike

Congrats on the new house Mike!

Don't worry, I didn't close the deal either. We still had fun though!
