I am heading up north in Maine afterwork to my friends camp. I set up a trail camera in a spot we have not done alot of scouting on but two years in a row we found the shed off of the same 5x5, but have never seen him. Hopefully when I check my camera we will have a picture of him, I set my camera out 2 weeks ago so the anticipation is pretty high.

No, I won't be hunting this weekend...but I will Monday! I'm headed to the NC mountains after work today to see the folks. They've been harrassing me to come up there and I figured if I go ahead now I won't have to lose a weekend during the season.
All the way up there and back you'll see bucks galore! Starting Monday I heard South Carolina is having their annual "Does Only During Daylight" festival. Have fun brother!:D
You're probably right about that!! Especially since I can only shoot bucks the first 2 weeks! [:@]

Got nothing this weekend, I work saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods, then Sunday is church and my girlfriend gets back in town that evening so i will be spending time with her.

Bucks only.....i agree with that being weird...but hey, if a shooter walks by you do not have to pass on him like i do for my doe only season

I just about smashed my laptop-as I do every year when I try to switch up my avatar.

Hey Steven, willD.ickies be putting those comfort zone stands on sale for 29.99 this year like they normally do?
I usually pic one or two up every year. I also got screw in tree steps during a sale for .99 each.

I'm gonna be heading back to my farm in PA again this weekend. One more stand to hand and I'll be ready to go.

Mike...They will go on sale, but i do now know exactly when we are going to put them on sale. We are having a big sale the weekend of the 7th at my store. I usually pick one up as well because they are so cheap.....and for the money not to bad at all

Sorry guys and gals.[:o]
I had a really good chance tonight to score but........ he just wasn't big enuf. Prolly 80" or so but in full velvet. I was tempted b/c I have yet to score a velvet buck. I just couldn't drop the hammer. I sat there at full draw for 4min while he looked at me. about 2 min broadside and then another 2 min standing towards me. I just couldn't do it. This was the first time I've hunted my private land and I kicked up 2 bucks walking in. WE saw 6 bucks in total so I just didn't want to use my tag so soon. On public land and in velvet that was a dead deer. MY BAD?????

Don't kill something that you are going to regret shooting just to put points on the board.
We all have a long season ahead of us.

Wow, it sounds like ya'll have had a lot of excitement this weekend. I relaxed in the mountains for a couple of days. That was great. I'm getting ready to do my final preps for tomorrow. I'll be heading out from the house at 4 am to head to the farm. Man I hope a good deer shows up. If he's 100" or better....thwack!!

Well I hit the woods again today. Nothing is going my way yet. We were just getting to the public land on the trans Canada HWY and a semi had just rolled going in the opposite direction. The driver was just crawling out. So we stopped to make sure he was OK and then to stop traffic/re-route traffic until RCMP, Fire and ambulance crews got on scene. The truck was leaking diesel all over the place. The driver had some bruises and was bleading from his ears.......... It was a mess!
Needless to say we got to our stands late and not as fresh as we would have liked
Then we were supposed to go to my private land this evening but....... it was raining cats and dogs

My luck has to change soon:)

gutshotem 09-01-2008 07:13 PM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Glad to hear that the guy was ok.
That's what's great about hunting. Who knew you would be out directing traffic when you should have been on stand--then get rained out in the afternoon.
You still have a long season ahead--most of us haven't even gotten started yet.

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Well my weekend wasn't a strange as Rob's. Monday morning was a pretty morning...70 degrees and foggy. We didn't see a dang deer all morning. Monday evening there were plenty of deer that came to the beans but no shooters. I saw 3 does, a fawn, and 5 spikes. I've never seen that many spikes in one sitting. It was in the mid/upper 80s so that didn't help I'm sure. I'm going to try and make the drive up to the farm sometime this week after work. It's a pretty good haul from my office up there but I'm sure the itch will get to me and I'll make the trip. I was really looking forward to hunting up there this weekend but it looks like Hurricane Hanna is making a beeline for South Carolina. We'll see how that goes.

Bleeding from the ears is not a good thing. Yikes.

Sorry to hear you guys didn't get deer.... but it is early yet.

I had a good weekend. Went bowfishing on Saturday. Went to a 3d shoot on Sunday and won an Octane quiver (yay!). Then drove/walkedaround inthe park I'll be hunting. For the first time I saw deer in the park. A small buck and a big doe.

sandilands 09-02-2008 09:37 PM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Good stuff Christine! Now go one. I might be heading out tomorrow to my private land......... and I'm working on permission on 2 more spots. I've been trying to call one farmer who owns the land next to the spot I have now to no avail and the land owners daughter of the land I have right now is working on a guy to get me permission on land that hasn't been hunted in 10yrs. She said he owes her a favour....... now I owe her one I guess. SHe does have a garage that needs straightening;)

NCRemington700 09-03-2008 07:58 AM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

Good luck getting that permission Rob...you can never have too much hunting land!

It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to get in the woods again until Saturday. My truck is in the shop today and unless I can get it at lunch time, I won't be making it out there. I've got plans tomorrow evening and it looks like Hurricane Hanna might screw up Friday. Hopefully she'll be out of here in time for a good hunt Saturday. I would think the deer would move pretty well after a storm like that. I'll just have to keep an eye on the weather.

We're in the same boat Rob, i'm waiting on a "yes" as well, and not being patient at the moment! I've employed both of the ladie's kids, so I'm hoping she throws me a bone with this permission. But, you never know. I have talked to her a couple times, and she's got her undies bunched about liability, so I'm waiting on her lawyers word. Ick. Cooling off here finally, going to be in the mid-sixties this week, which is pretty freekin' awesome. Going to head up to Cabelas this weekend and get some new camo, because i need so much...or I just like new things. I got some sweet early season Realtree AP gear, just needs some pants/bibs to match...I like to match, I know, gay.

NCRemington700 09-03-2008 02:54 PM

RE: Official Team 39 thread

I can't wait for it to cool down. Now that deer season is here, I have no use for warm summer days. The farmer's almanac says we are going to have a colder than usual fall and winter. That's OK by me! Hell, I can already notice a difference. Last year, here in SC, we had 14 days of the month of August were 100+ degrees. This August we haven't had a single one. It's been in the upper 80s to low 90s...that sweet for this time of year down here!!

ttt, back to the top

my season is starting Saturday, we have an expanded archery season for the areas near the major cities, if you want to call what we have cities. I set up a stand on a place I asked permission to hunt a few months back but have only been in their to hang a stand on the first deer run I saw, so i am not going in with high hopes.I am just happy to be able to sit in the woods again. Our real season for the rest of the state starts Oct 2.

Was cool here today. (and rainy.. left over hurricane passin' through)

The cool weather really made it seem like deer season should start any day. 27 days to go.

Good luck again guys.
