RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Well, I went out on Sunday, in hte pooring rain, and I saw a ton of deer. 1 little 4 point, 6 does right behind me in the corn, but when IO stood up to turn around, they busted me and wre gone. Then about 6:00, I saw a for sure shooter, (I think it was a 10 point) He came out about 80 yards away, and didnt come any closer. Then right before dark, I had a nice wide 6 point, an a little 5 point come out in the corn right behind me. I might have tried to shoot the 6 if I hadnt seen the 10 earlier. They both knew something was there, but they didnt know what I was. They didnt run off, but the 6 was blowing at me, and stomping, trying to get me to move. Went out again last night, and saw 2 does, and a little spiker. Going camping this weekend, so I am hoping to get out every night this week.

Ok boys, lets talk scents. What do yu guys use, when do you start using them, and how do you use them. Do you use a drag rag, and if yu do, what do you put on it. What do you use on scrapes, and what do you put on the licking branch.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Sorry haven't posted, have been mowing food plots , scouting and shooting in preperation for the season. I'm heading out for the first time this coming weekend and if I get anything I will be sure to post. I've been seeing some big boys this year hoping to connect!

I also saw what looked like a scrape i thought it might be a bit early espeacially with the warm weather. |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Well guys, just got back from an evening hunt. Sat in my Ameristep Ground blind. I have to say I really do not like hunting from a blind at all. I would much rather be up in a tree, (even tho I am only up about 10' becouse I am afraid of heights). I didnt see any deer, but I did have 8 turkeys right out side my blind.Better go get my Turkey tag.:D

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
I GOT OUT THIS MORNING !!! Nothing major it was just nice to get out for a few hours. It is still so darn warm. I saw 2 doe but when the sun came up I was sitting 25 yrds from an unbelievable rub line only feet inside the tree line in route to a cut corn field. The rubs were high and they were on some nice size trees. CAN'T wait to get back out there~!!!

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
I like the boot pads, on the way to the stand, then I use the canisters with the wicks at the stand! I've tried a bunch of different scents, but always end up going back to Tinks69. The biggest deer I ever shot came through the woods like a freight train, and stuck his nose right in my film container with Tinks in it! I've also shot a doe with her nose in a Tinks container! I usually don't start using scent until a week or 2 before the rut!
I've also had a "close" encounter with a deer because of the boot pads, and Tinks!! When gun hunting, I almost always still hunt.(spend enough time in a stand bow hunting). Well after a morning of beating the brush I find a downed log to sit on, with a tree to lean against! After about 15 minutes, just enough time for me to start to dose off, Ihere a little rustling behind me, only to turn and see a deer staring back at me, at about 3 feet!! I swear I saw my reflection in his eyes!! When he bolted, he nearly jumped right over me! Scared the %^&* out of me! I never even got a shot off! I just ducked out of his way!!! To this day I still laugh at myself, about that day, I reacted like a scared little girl!! |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Just got back from my evening hunt. Had one little 5 point playing games with me. I had so many chances to shoot him, but it was fun to just sit and watch him eat. Saw 8 more turkeys right after I got in my stand. Going out tomorrow right after lunch to do a little scouting, and hopefully move a couple of stands. I will sit tomorrow evening, but then I will be done until Sunday evening, we are going camping for the weekkend.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Made it out last night for about 45 minutes with my 4 year old son. Didn't see anything but still fun. Got up this am to get ready for work, and a beautiful 9 point was standing in the back. I got a couple minutes of video, I'll try to post some pics tonight or tomorrow.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
why dident u shoot the 9 i seen nothing today
|
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Now that I reviewed the video, I'm asking myself the same thing. I work out of my house but had to be in the office for several meetings today. So I saw this buck as I was dressed and packing up my computer to head into the office. I told my boss today, had I had a better look and realized yesterday morning that he bedded down right there, I never would have made the meetings.
Here are the pictures as promised... ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
WOW, that is one nice Buck! You had better keep an eye out for him to come around again. Well, I went out and moved another stand this morning, and did a little more scouting.I am leaving today for the weekend, we are going on our last camping trip for the year. I will hopefully be back on Sunday in time for me to hit the woods for the evening. Everyone have a good weekend.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
I went out last night, this morning = nothing, but too damn hottt!! I attempted to go out this evening, but after being in the stand for about 15 minutes, the wind changed, and I left!! It's so dang hot you sweat just sitting in the stand!
Supposed to stay hot all weekend, so I'm going fishing!!! |

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
I've been out every day this week with no success!
This after noon I had one of the better hunts I've had in awhile! I decided to do a little scouting, by way of still hunting! Ijumped a doe within the first 10 minutes. My first sighting this week!! After about 2 hours of looking for trees to climb, I went back to the area,I thought to be the best I'd seen, to mark a tree or two! After marking them I decided to still hunt my way out of the woods!! It was 3:45! As soon as I started again I spotted a doe at about 150yds! The wind was good, but she didn't seem to be heading my way, so I started stalking slowly! Hiding behind trees, only moving when the wind was blowing to help hide my motion, and help hide the crunch of the leaves under my boots! It was working, she had no idea I was there!! Slowly but surely I kept easing towards her! Aways trying to keep trees between us. I got to within about 20 yds, and was hiding behind a big oak when she decided to head my way! At 7 yards she stopped with her head behind a tree, perfectly broadside. I drew back and put the pin in the bread basket, and then noticed 2 branches about the size of my pinkie blocking my shot! She stood there, feeding, for about a minute. I'm thinking I'll get her when she steps from behind the tree! Only instead of walking the way she was headed, she turned straight towards me. I'm standing there drawn, going on about a minute and a halfnow! She puts her head down to feed, and I had to let my bow down, I was starting to shake! She didn't bolt, I was surprised she didn't see me!!About 20 seconds lateran acorn falls to the ground behind me, and she looked. BUSTED! She new something was wrong, but I don't think she new what, as she only ran about 50 yards, stopped looked back for a minute, and started feeding again. Had itnot been so late I may have tried again!!It was 5:50! It took me a little over 2 hours, to go 150 yds, but I ended up a mere 6 yds from her! It was a dang fine doe too!! The best day I've had hunting in quite awhile, and I didn't even let an arrow loose!! That's what it's all about boys!!! |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Well I will be heading up to upstate NY this afternoon till tuesday. the weather seems like it will be just right 50 high 34 low. Scouting last week I saw some scrapes (which I was a little surprised ) but hey at least I know the stand Is in the right spot. Hopefully I can get us on the board this weekend. You'll have a full report upon my return.
Stay safe and good hunting this weekend gents |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Sounds like a great hunt Brad! Good Luck Richard, go get one for the team. I will be back out there this weekend, trying to do my part.
|
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
I finally saw a buck today! It was about 100yds away, but I could still see rack! Not sure how big though!! I've seen 7 deer in the last 2 days, and 5 of them were within 25yds, but they never offered me the right shot! I have drawn my bow 3 times though!
Gl to all this weekend!! Vikes |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
I have seen about 40 does at three different blinds,so far the only bucks Iv'e seen are two buck fawns(nubbie bucks)so I'm hoping It gets better gl team!

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Well fellas the temps have dropped and i finally got out this morning for a normal hunt. Saw a total of 18 deer! 5 bucks, the biggest was a 2 1/2 year nine point. Passed on the bucks and put a fat doe on the ground! It was a steep 15 yard quartering awayshot so i out the pin about 4 inches below the spine and a bit back and got a nice double lung. She went about 35 yards and crashed down a hill and got back up and ran for75 yardsbefore piling up. Tough deer. Backstraps for dinner!
|
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
What no pics!! Nice work Rob, congrats!!!

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
No hunting in CT on Sundays, so I went fishing out in the Long Island Sound, with a couple buddies! They each caught one Bonita tuna, at the same time!! It was great just to watch the double! One was 6#, and the other was 7#! Them little buggers have some fight in them! Took about 15 minutes to land them both!! I had one on a little later, but it straightened out my hook!
A great day out on the sound! The tuna were everywhere!! |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Congrats on the doe.
I'm finally seeing some deer as well. Saw 5 doe on Saturday night. Was watching a coyote come into my stand and never saw the 3 doe come in beside me. Needless to say, that was one meeting that didn't go over well. I was getting ready to draw when I heard the first deer blow. 3 deer took off and the yote in pursuit. Shortly after I saw turkey flying out of the field as well. Pretty exciting evening to say the least. |
RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
Saturday was the southern tier of NY opener. It was an enjoyable morning afield turkeys and deer were abundent I wasnt able to get a shot at any quarry on Sat but Sunday morning was another story. I had a mature doe at 28 yrds slightly quartering away. I was able to go through the liver and one lung passed through the opposite shoulder. She went about 125 yards on pure adrenilin time of death 0747 hrs on 10/14/07. I tried geeeting the pic up but it was giving me a problem ?

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread
So whats everybody setting up on right now? They are still killing the acorns here so I am hunting a 20 ft ladder nestled in an oak grove funnel. I have been seeing lots of deer each time out just not any mature bucks. I have vacation on the week of Oct 29 so i plan on hitting some of my hotspot hang ons. I've never been much of a fan of ladder stands but i really like the big game skybox model. The only bad thing i have found is that i like to stand and when you stand it puts you out from the tree......which makes it easier for the deer to skyline you. I solved the problem by standing on the seat. :D
