Hey everyone, how is everyone doing? Im not feeling so well today, think I might be coming down with the flu or somewthing.[:@]Drove by my hunting spot today on the way home from work, getting that itch really bad.:DDidnt have time to do anything but drive by, but I am planning on going out there this Saturday, to move stands, and do some trimming. That will be my last time out there until opening day. So is everyone else all ready for opening day?

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

23 more days!! I have been out scouting a half dozen times!! I just have my summit climber, so no setting out stands! I have however picked my trees, and cleaned them so I can climb easy!! So far I've spied 2 easy shooters, and one maybe shooter! I don't dare put out a game cam around here, so I just have to rely on my scouting!

I'll tell you all right now I don't rate myself on the size or amount of deer taken, for me it more about just being out there!! I do, however, do enough scouting and have enough knowledge that I average a decent buck every 2 years, and I was skunked last year, so I should get one this year, butno promises!!!

I hopenobody puts too much extra pressure on themsevles!! It's all about the fun, right!! Oh and kicking the other teams butts!!!

GL

COLLECT DEM BONES!!!!!!

EDIT PS Well wishes to Darren!!

I know we are all stoked to get out there. I hope I have the oppurtunity to contribute to the team effort. I can't agree with Vikes more just getting out there for any amount of time for the next 3-4 months is what it's all about. A very close 2nd is talkin the POOH about the other teams. This is a hunting camp of the new day. (.COMhunting) New hunting partners to share stories about the field with.

I might be the luckiest man in this room because as addicted as I might be to the sport I bought my wife a bow at X-MAS, she started shooting and has become a very good shot. Icreated anothermonster. She booked us a trip this year to ILLINOIS (surprise for me).

Thanks for the well wishes Brad!! And yes you are right, it is all about getting out there and having FUN!!! I dont put any more pressure on myself bcouse of this contest, but it will be nice to help out the team.:DI didnt start hunting with a bow until I was in my early 30's, ( hunted strictly with a shot gun before that)and the main reason I enjoy it so much, is becouse I lov the quiet time sitting in a tree. Its not so much about the kill. But dont get me wrong, I do everything in my power to harvest a deer every year.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

Gotta agree that's it's all about being out there. Watching the sunrise each morning is a special time for me.

If I see a buck that I want, I will take a shot, last year, I passed a few small 7's & 8's that I wanted to let grow. The property I hunt behind my house is for sale, so I may not be as selective this year, as if it's gone, there's no reason to let them grow.

I got another month until the Archery Buck season starts in PA and another few weeks before I get serious about hunting. The first 2 weeks rae typically warm and I see a lot of does and small bucks.Once mid October hits, I get serious and spend a lot of free time, include long lunch hours in the woods.

Good Luck guys.

My mindset exactly. Morning hunts are the best for sure. I just bought a new trail camera overat acherytalk. Hopefully I'll start getting pics soon.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

Just got back from checking my stands. I moved one stand, trimmed some shooting lanes, and moved my ground blind. I bought anAmeristep Dog House blind 2 years ago, and I have only sat in it 2 times, I just dont like the limited visibility. I have never been able to figure out how to take it down, so I have just left it out there, so its not in the best shape, but I decided that this year I am going to sit in it more, even if it is only on bad weather days. NOt much going on other than that, went to the local dirt track races last night, any of you in to dirt track racing at all? I raced for about 6 years, in 3 different classes, but just didnt have the $$$$$ to compete, so I decided to hang it up. Have to say that I miss it a little, except when I see someone pulling out at the end of the night with a smashed up car.;)

Glad everyone is so cheery, I just went to check out one of my stands. It's onprivate property and I'm the only one with permission to hunt there, so me and the bro in law, (fellow bow hunter) head out there and the friggin stand is GONE!!!!!!! mother scratcher hot supper cheese and rice and many other choice words and phrases.Last year I had one stolen about 100 yds from her dads uncles house, while he was HOME!!!!!! It sucks when a holes do that crap, wish there was a way to catch them.Oh well guess I'll just have to make natural blinds again go team 25!

Rob, how do like your moultrie game cam? I just bought that same model. I had the Moultrie 1.3 for a few years and it worked just fine over the feeder where it kept it most of the time.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

it works great best cam i ever had no problems with it i just bought the infared i40 takes real nice pics but already have problems with it and it takes d battarys instead of the 6 volt like the gamespy

Predator19 08-26-2007 06:49 PM

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

Thats why I didnt get the new one. I wanted to use the rechargeable six volts. I am checking http://chasingame.com/for a few reviews and thoughts on them. They say they like to be mounted at around 28" high and pointed slightly down for best range. Go figure.

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

Most of my scouting is done via the office window as my office looks onto the farm I hunt. I'm somewhat limited where I can get a ladder stand so I don't have to scout much. Keep in mind, I live in a residential neighborhood that borders this 20+ acre farm. Only a few people know I hunt back here and I don't care to make it well know. I'm well within the laws of PA hunting and I am not doing anything wrong, I just don't want to create a 'problem'.

This past summer, a new family moved in and now every morning, this woman takes her dog for a run thru the field. It's frustrating but technically, I can't say anything. She isn't on my property but she is really screwing me up. I'm fairly certain she never spoke to the landowner and asked for permission. I spent most of my hunting last season on early morning hunts from sunup until about 7:50 and then would climb down and be at work by 8 (I work out of the house.)

I'm not seeing the deer likeI was and when I do, they are usually spooked and trotting thru. School starts tomorrow, so I am hoping this ends the early morning walks. I guess time will tell.

I just got permission to hunt a 40 acre plot here in CT, and am the only one with said permission!!Never even seen the land other than mapquest yet!!! Now I have more to do!!! It looks good too. It is 1/4 mile in, and connected to 1,000's of acres of woods and farms!!! I just may have a new honey hole!!! There is even an old camper on it that I can fix up and sleep in if I want to!!!!

RE: 25 Official Team The Bone Collectors Thread

Sometimes a little digging can pay off big when it comes to getting permission to hunt somehwere.....prime example:

I own 200 wooded acres and got permission to hunt 30 adjoining acres. My wife couldnt figure out why i would want to hunt the 30 acres. It has been vacant for 15 years with no houses or anything on it and I knewit was an old apple orchard years ago. I also know that almost all the deer coming onto our land bed over there, but nobody knows who owns the place.Sooo, I went to the courthouse and found out the owner. Here it is somebody who I went to church with when I was little....he's been a family doctor for years, but hes not a very nice fella. My wife is a nurse and shes sees him quite a bit on the job so i had her ask him and sure enough, he'll let me hunt. Funny thing was he doesnt even know where the property corners are!!! Not only can i hunt, but he wants me to keep an eye on the place for him!!! Wish i had money to blow on a place i dont even use! I dobut I will hunt the place except for the rut when i like to hunt close to bedding in the morning but its anice addition.
