Too bad it got dark huh Diesel..I know it got dark awful early here yesterday with the heavy skies!! Probably cheated you out of the precious few minutes you needed.
Tembry, dad is hunting up at our camp in PA..he went out for turkey yesterday morning and carried the shotgun. He had a sweet8 pt walk by him at spitting distance! It never fails!! lol |

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Good Job Vogt...He's a sweet buck with character. I like them tall racks!
Nothing exciting for me on Sunday saw 1 dink buck the last 15 minutes of daylight. Loooong boring sit! I know a bunch of noisy red squirrels who are happy I don't carry a junk arrow! [:-] I'm not hunting tonight..Promised my 3 year old we'd play...or cut grass (he loves to ride along). |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Saw another buck chasing pretty hard today. It was about a 90" 8-point who was really dogging this group of 4 does. They came into the area after I did a little rattling and I was like, what the heck are these does doing? They were really on edge and I didn't move an inch and they started running. Well about 2 seconds later this buck comes out of the brush grunting and chasing those does pretty hard. It was an exciting 5 minutes though.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Whew, what a night. I sat in my stand at 4:10 this evening and had deer in sight until I climbed down. I saw at least 35 deer that I counted, 2 shooters, neither were closer than 60 yards but man, it was action packed and exciting. I have off for 2 weeks starting next Monday, with any luck I will at the very least get a shot off.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Well guys, I'm back. Sorry for checking in so periodically, I just have a hard time finding time to get on here.
First off, congrats Vogt on a great buck, got us on the board!!!:D:D My draw hunt came and went this past weekend with little luck. It was an awesome experience, with the great oppurtunities, it is just very difficult to find a good spot to hunt with only a 1/2 day to scout and hang stands in an area you have never set foot on. My dad and another buddy in my group shot a doe with the recurve, my brother, another buddy, and I didn't have such luck. I sawa 2 1/2 yr old buck and a few does, all out of range. The biggest deer shot this weekend was a great looking 8 point that grossed 141". We saw a lot of monster bucks going into and out of our hunting area in restricted areas. They know where they are safe. My buddy that shot the doe, also shot at a 160" 10 point and shot just beneath him. It was definately a learning experience for me and if I ever get drawn again I would do a few things a little different. Like I said before, it was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again. Now, it's back to the real world. Before my draw hunt, I did have a chance to get in the woods on my place, but only seen small bucks and does. It should start heating up right now, but unfortunately, I have to work until the 13th of November. Good news, I will be off from the 14th through the 28th. It should still be good hunting during that time. Rifle seaon will be open during most of that time, but I will tote my bow into the woods on most days. I will continue to keep checking in while I am working these next 2 weeks and I hope Vogt has gotten something good started for us. Lets stay after them hard and get em on the ground. Good luck everyone!! Just for entertainment, here is the link to a few videos my cousin has filmed this year. They made a hunting video last year they named Full Throttle Outdoors. This year will be season 2. It is just an amateur hunting video, but I think he does a pretty good job. The doe that Mitch shot yeasterdaywas on my food plot. Hope you enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI_LVxqyKt4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ISxQEQuKjo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onv3kZUJubc |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Diesel..are you hunting big field edges. I can't believe the numbers you see. Thatsawesome. How much viewable area are you watching?
Glad ya had some fun Millertime. It's gonna be tough for youto spend the next couple weeks out of the woods but hopefully we'll have a story or two to help the time pass quick. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Action is picking up. I managed to smoke a lone doe last night. I was wondering if I'd get a chance to take one before they became buck bait. She was feeding in the field for quite some time with a few smaller bucks. Had her at 25yds and made a great shot. She didn't go 50yds. Looking forward to the weeks ahead.

Congrats Mantis
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Congrats Mantis!! Good job.
GR8, this property Im hunting a strip of woods thats about 70 yards wide between 2 fields, one is corn (cut now) and the other is grass. There is about a 400 acre hardwood area that dumps into the strip of woods Im in, perfect funnel. Im hunting about 60 yards from the main body of hardwoods. The only problem is if they dont come thru the funnel they enter the feilds from the hardwoods and I only get a shot if they come back into the strip of woods, sometimes they do, and sometimes they back in the hardwoods. I saw a shooter 9 pt that was 70 yards from me following a Doe around, and several smaller bucks tonight along the herd of Does/fawns. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Another great hunt fellas..5 bucks, 3 were shooters.Read the sorted details here. No shots taken!

Good God Halloween night and the first thing thatwalks by is a black cat. And it went down hill from there one small buck and a big doe and her two fawns.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Man that sux MT, wish you could be out there. This Sunday is one of our only 2 Sundays to hunt all season, Im definatly taking advantage of it, especially since the wife will be gone most of next week for work, and I'll be on vacation the next 2 weeks for some all day hunts.
Tonights Report: I saw 3 Does and 2 fawns. One of my hunting partners was 300 yards away had them all over him from 4PM until dark. He saw some bucks chasing Does hard, running full tilt back and forth, in circles, basically all around him for 2 hours. Was queit night for me wondering where all the deer were lol. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Well I'm letting the black cat thing pass tonight so I can hunt all day Friday & Saturday if necessary.;)
Bob did you see that east wind all day Friday??????????? Good luck guys this could be the week end to knock the big ones down. I'll check in with my phone to keep a heads up on the rest of ya.:D |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
went out this afternoon and had a great time. around 4:40 a spike and four pointer come moving through just out of range, about fifty yards out. around thirty minutes later 5:10 i hear movement behind me, i turn and see antlers coming towards me from about 100 yards down the trail through the brush. i stand turn around and get the bow ready, i was sure it was going to be an eight pointer and it was my time. i could tell it was a decent basket rack, so i pulled back and when it stepped out in the open settled my pin...then i realized it was a six pointer.....i contemplated the shot for what seemed like an eternity, but decided this wasnt the right buck to be my first with a bow...ive been at it for three years passin bucks like this, and didnt want to let my self down by settling now. it would have been an eight if it had brow tines. just a basket rack right at his ears, looked young 1.5 and like he had goodpotential based on the mass and spread for that little rack. anyway, he finally left and i was happy i let him go. hopefully it will pay off later this year.
not ten minutes after that i see gray movement through the brush ahead of me. i first thought squirrel, but when i realized it was much to big i stood up and got the bow ready. i figured it was a coyote. as dry as it was, i couldnt for the life of me figure out how this thing was so quiet. it was literallya ghost, i knew where it was but i still lost it like 3 times before it finally stepped into a clear lane in front of me about 50 to 60 yards away. it was a freakin bobcat! i was stoked. this is the second year in a row that i have seen one in this area. i thought he may put a stalk on a squirrel that was about 5 yards from my tree, but instead he kept ghosting through the woods. he was making QUICK time and made literally ZERO noise. pretty scary thought[&:] i would have stuck him if he would have been only 15 yards closer, it was a perfect shootin lane. ive always wanted a bobcat mount i have been losin thewill to keep goin outwith few sightings this year but a hunt like this refuels me for another month or so lol. great day in the woods. cant hunt tomorow, but ill be back saturday am, hopefully with a doe or 8 pointer+ walkin by. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Yeah and I didn't go to my spot yesterday...I went as close as I could and still cheat the wind. I was probably within oh 150 -200 yards down below where I wanted to be. Thought I could still cut the trail one of the shooters walked on without being winded.
Well I played the wind good.. The shooters just chose not to participate..lol My little buddy, the 1 horned 3 point made his rounds on the scrapes rubs, licking branches, I saw 2 other doe ..then at dark 3 Deer (no big horns thats for sure) walked by just as my bow hit the ground. AND boy I wish fox was in I had this little guy chasing monks all around me..it was very entertaining. I watched the same stump (same chipmonk?) get dove on by a hawk (missed) and then rushed by a fox (also missed) thats one lucky chipmonk. lol |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

Yeah I saw GR8, thnx bro.
TE, Ive seen one bobcat 1 time while hunting in PA, was incredible. Man, it sounds like everyone is SOOOOOOOOOOO close to scoring almost every night. My 2 week vacation starts after work today so Im really pumped. If I get a shooter before my 2 weeks is up, I'll go back to work and save a little vaca for skiing with the wife and friends as well as traveling to some hunting shows. My wife is praying I get onethis weekendhehe. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Diesel, posted on the main forum already, but good luck in the morning, I know if hes dead you will find him. Wish I lived a little closer, Old Jessie James (my oldest GSP) can find a gut shot Grasshopper!
Ill check in to see if you got him about 11, then Im on my way to Kentucky so Ill be off here for a while. Best of luck to you all, I will check in if I can get my hands on a PC down there, if not Ill post soon as I can. |
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Thanks guys for all the positive encouragement, means alot. My worst fear is not if I do or dont recover him , its mortally wounding him and not finding him, that will eat me up more than anything. Soon as I find out any news good or bad I'll post it tomorrow.
|
RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Sounds good Diesel, all will be well. Just stay persistent and don't give up, he will be in there somewhere.

RE: 10 - Official Team Germ Warfare Thread
Well guys, we found him about 120 yards from the shot, worked out perfect. I think he'll score around 125" or so. Pics tonight, still have 3 deer to butcher. I made a more detailed post on the main board. Thanks so much for all the support guys, really means alot. I have the next 2 weeks off and 1 more buck tag to fill so Im done with contest but not the season : )

Congrats Vogt and Diesel. Today is my last day of work til the 17th. Been trying to get my oldest son his first deer the past week. Close, but no luck. I'll be hunting in the morning this week and maybe an evening or two.I am alsotaking my bow with me during rifle season. Learned my lesson last year while hunting from the ground and two deer ran by at 2 yrds. Then 30 min later took an 8 pt at 20 yrds.
