Guys,
We're going to go with the last avatar that KYDeerHuner03 sent us. If other choices are presented to us in the near future we will vote on which one to use. |

Today while at football practice, a blackhawk helecoptor came and circled our field really close a few times before finally landing in the nearby parkinglot. It was especially awesome because we are the Blackhawks.
Wouldn't it be sweet if, on friday nights, one of em lands in the middle of the field and we all come out of it before a game and proceed to kick @$$! Edit: This pic is usable as a logo, I could probably fix it up. ![]() Nice stand. He's falling out of the tree. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Hey guys, just got home from taking a little ride checking the fields for deer, saw a bunch of does but no bucks. Got my new cable slide in for my bow today, i upgraded to the new alpine archery mach 5 cable slide, its got a rubber sleeve in it to dampen vibration, it seems pretty slick.

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
If you guy's have a d!cks in your area they are having a great sale on fix position tree stands.I try to pick up a couple each year.Thirty bucks a piece,I bought two last night and will buy one or two more prior to the season starting.
I have a pile of tree stands,do you ever really have enough.I like to walk right in to where I am hunting and get up the tree quickly, limiting the amount of noise made. The stands are heavy,16lbs,but they are cheap and it wont be that painful if one gets swiped. |

Can you add our team name to it? If so, I think we will go with that if the team all agrees. The one Jenna did is pretty sweat. However, it would be nice to have one from the other perspective and I think this picture does that. His stand position reminds me of how one of my old stands was. That dang thing would end up like that every time I hunted no matter how much I angled it up before I went up the tree. Maybe some guy saw me hanging off a tree and made this. ;) What's everyone think? Mark, How do you like the new slide? I've been thinking about getting one and wanted to talk to someone who had one before buying. Nate, I've been reading that Allegheny county has produced the top bucks in PA over the past few years and is one of the best places in PA for a bruiser. Sounds like you are seeing deer. I have to wait until Sept 1 to start scouting the main place I will hunt. There rest is on the Eastern Shore and Somerset County, PA 112 - 150 isn't that bad. I take it you were shooting 3D? If so, I'd go for good kill shots and score 8' & 10's than try to hit center ring scores. The center rings on most 3D deer are too far forward and high. I usually shoot about a 170-180/240 because of shooting that way. However, as long asI have no 5's or marginal 8's I'm happy. Scot, I've been looking at the climbers they have for $109. They look like they are made by Summit but aren't. Does the same company make both? I might pick up a fixed stand or 2 to use on the Eastern Shore. thanks for the heads-up. Looks like we all are getting pumped for the season. |
RE: OT
Dave,I did see that they had climbers on sale but I didn't really pay that much attention because I don't use climbers.I am embarrassed to say that I don't remember the name of the company that makes the fixed position stands that I bought.I think it was hunters friend, they look very much like some of the Rivers edge stands that I have.Every year D!cks has stands that are sold very inexpensively and as long as they are sturdy and safe that is all I care about.I probably have 14 or 15 stands and I will likely set them all but one or two and use the ones I don't set as late season possibilities if I want to put one up as a result of coming across an area that interests me.
The Eastern shore of Maryland is touted as a real hot spot for big deer,to be able to hunt that area has to be pretty exciting! Tomorrow I will spend a decent amount of time in the woods,I am looking forward to it! |

Hey Ladies, lol.. Sorry haven't been on here, BUSY BUSY BUSY.. Trying to get ready to take the Michigan LEVEL 1 tax assessing test to become certified.. I test on Sept 7th.. What a combination, I operate a Waste Water Treatment plant and my part time job is Tax Assessing.. LOL Anyone ever take the Michigan Level I Assessing Test?
Well, Been hereing of a few good bucks around the area lately, hopefully i can get my cameras out this weekend, well at least one anyways.. TTYL |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Scot,
I think you are right about the brand name.I did some research a few weeks back about their climbers and thought about buying one. I'm waiting to see if a freind can get me Summit Stands at cost like he said he could. i might stop back in Dick's tomorrow and see what they have. i've nver used fixed postion stands due to hunting public land most of my hunting life. The Eastern Shore has some huge bucks. The bad part is that most of them are on leased land.I might lease some land down there this year if the guy will let my borther join too. He showed me a picture of the buck his dad got last year. It's a 160+ class buck. Brad, Thanks for checking in. Keep us posted on how everything is going. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Hi guys, I'm back. Was off yesterday. Is there a link for the avatar to download?
Regarding my practice, I should be doing my 3rd practice this week at lunch today. I'm really enjoying my 3D target since I've just had a bag that last 2 years. As far as my hunting set up and seeing deer, I will be going to a lease where we have camera's set up and treestands already in place. I need to let you all know that I'm only allowed a cull buck so I may get a 3.5 year old buck or so that scores in the 80s or 90s so hopefully we'll get some bigger bucks to compensate for that but I will try my best.I think the first day I'll be able to get out there will be 10/14. |

I serve on the tax assessment review board in the town where I reside.A few years ago there was a town wide reassessment, there were over 300 people who filed grievances.

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Mike,
Just right click and save the picture from the KYDeerHunter03 thread and then go into your profile and download the file. you'll have to resize it to get it to fit though. I'd way a few days. Jarrod's picture is brighter and if he gets the text in it we'll probably go with that. don't worry about the size. The guys that win have a lot of guys post deer, not post a few big deer. If you look at last year most of the guys scored bucks and most were under 100 and even 90. Where as there was a team with a few guys with 130's that only had those few bucks. If we get 10 guys with 60" that could possibly win. Therefore, every inch over that is a bonus. Jarrod, Make sure that the image is 145 X 145 max when you are through. that way people can just save the image and not go through a lot of trouble resizing to use. |

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Thanks Dave, I appreciate the encouragement. I'm actually excited about the opportunity to take a mature buck even if it is to cull it out.
One thought on the new avatar (it's awesome by the way) could we make it look a little more broadside and then have his head turning away from the hunter like he doesn't have a clue he is there. Goes with the Quite Arrow concept. Just a thought... |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Jarrod,
I don't know much either. Play around with a few and see what happens. We have faith in you. Mike, That would be perfect. That's actually why I prefer the scene in Jarrod's piture more. The buck has no clue the guy is there. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I dont know about the tripling.. Depending on what county your from maybe.. But as far as Taxed.. Back in 1994 Michigan passed a Law called proposal A..
The neighbors are paying cheap taxes, because they have owned their property probably for a long time.. When someone purchases land in michigan or a home, the Taxable value becomes Uncapped and the taxes you pay are now based on the SEV, State Equalized Value. This happens the Following year of the sale. Once its uncapped, your taxes can only go up a TOTAL of 5% each year, never any higher, unless you Build or Add new Additions or so on. Example: If you buy property from someone and it was assessed at 25,000 dollars 10 yrs ago, it was then uncapped and that became the New taxable Value. The 25000 could only go up a total of 5% each year.. Its either 5% or The Inflation Rate, whichever is less. Usually the Inflation Rate. Now you come along and purchase the land and lets say theSEV is now 40,000. When you purchase it, the following year the taxable value which was 25,000 plus whatever it had gone up by percentage wise, is uncapped to the 40,000 and this becomes your NEW taxable value.. That is was your pay taxes on then.. Its confusing.. I hope I explained it ok.. Also, if this is Just LAND, no building, they can do CFA on it. Commercial Forest Act.. Taxes would be REALLY Cheap.. but the catch is, you have to allow people to hunt or fish on it.. Its kinda like Public land then.. With a few exceptions..You dont have to open gates, and you can say NO fourwheelers, no Tree STEPS in trees and so on, but you have to let people on to it hunt or walk, etc..... |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Hmm thanks. There was something about how you pay taxes on double the property value one year than triple the next or someting. It was really stupid and made no sense whatsoever.

What's the max avvy size?
![]() 10kb max? WTF? Its already hosted, why does hni need to upload it? SOL for now. Does anyone know any moderators that will make that our avvy, dispite it's size? Well anyway is the font OK? Suggestions? |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I like the over all concept, only I thinkthat the word Quiet goes through the middle of the picture and covers a lot, butI'm not sure how to get around that. Can you make the word Quiet like footsteps to the tree or up the tree to the stand and then the word Arrow between the actualbow and buck or going toward the buck like a shot?
I don't know...trying. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
HNI doesn't need to upload it. We save it to our PC's and then use it as our avatar.
I agree with Mike about the text. Either try to do what he's explaining in smaller text or; How about making the quiet smaller. Maybe as wide as the ARRO in arrow Kind of like whispering, or walking quietly, and place it right on top of the arrow. It's looking better and better though Jarrod. you are doing a great job. A lot better than I'd be able to. Scot, I picked up one of the stands and a pair of climbing sticks all for $62. A lot of the places I'm hunting I can not screw steps in. Plus, the sticks will come in handy for getting up through the linbs too. I'm going to get my brother a ladder stand for $50 tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Jarrod,
Can you do this but with the coolfont you are using in the one you did? That font makes me think of clouds ond tranquility. The Team 19 is ok in size. I have crappy fonts to choose from but i think conveys the idea. |

I'm glad you picked up that stand and sticks, hard to go wrong at those prices. You seem to have a negative following Dave, that other person and now Fieldmouse. Are they old teammates or just folks you have traded barbs with? |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
The other guy and I are just kidding around with each other. We're friends from here.
I have a friend on Fieldmouse's team and am trying to light a fire under them for him. It's all in good fun to mess with each other.:D |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I found that font and thought it looked kind of quiet. And I kind of had to make it big because when you resize the picture it was hard to see.
Edit: Dave the limit to upload avvys is 10kb. I cant get mine that small; how'd you do it? |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
.gif got it the correct size. I'll fix the font tomarrow. And you can't see the bow against the tree. I tried to fix it but it really didn't make a difference. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
That's looking pretty good. We'll wait until you are finished and decide.

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Sorry for the long post but I think it' a good story.
I got to practice real Maryland shooting conditions. 96 degrees with about 90% humidity. The Mossy Oak Archer's gloves are pretty sweet in this weather. I also bought the Alpine cable slide today. Watching me and my buddy put it on my bow without a bow press was probably like watching 2 monkeys trying to hump a football. First, he help the bow parallel to the ground and I tried to pull both cables back. Then we realized if he held the bow perpendicular to the ground I could draw the cables back and put the slide on. What a pain in the butt. However, the new slide seems pretty sweet. Heres' a not so funny story about shooting today. The place I shot at is also the qualification station to hunt Patuxent Wildlife Refuge. There was a gentleman probably in his mid to late 70's. Maybe older than that trying to qualify with a crossbow. He actually used 2 kitchen sponges to grab the cable on his crossbow to draw it. You had to line up 2 yellow rings on the string on the outside of the cocking mechanism or it would shoot left or right. The crossbow was probably 15-20 yrs old. A old PSE that used a V rest on the front and thebolt sat up in the lock pin. Most crossbows today the bolt sits down on the rail. Anyway, he shoot poorly on the first 2 shots. missed far left on bothand missed the 3D deer with his 3rd shot low. At that point he said he couldn't draw his crossbow back anymore due to back pain and to be honest probably tired too. So, I climbed the elevated platform and cocked his crossbow for him so he could shoot and made sure it was aligned properly for him. He told me that it was his last year hunting and that he hadalready sold his fishing equipment and rifles and shotguns and was giving archery one last shot. I admired the gentleman but also felt sad that probably after 60+ years of being in the woods it was coming to an end for him. It almost made me want to tell him that I'd go out and cock the crossbow for him. Watching him and his story made me think of my father. While he is only 59 he's had a myriad of health issues ranging from a bad back to lung cancerto the latest issue prostate cancer (thankfully his in full remission). How many more years does he have? That's the biggest reason I am returning to PA to hunt archery withhim. The past 2 years I didn't get a license for PA for the first time in 22 yrs of hunting with him and decided that I don't know how many more years ofhunting together we have. Last weekend I sighted in his crossbow and it was enjoyable to talk to him about shooting andrazz each other about a poor shoot. I missed that and plan on spending the remaining years we have together enjoyingthe kind of camaraderie that you only get from hunting andfishing together. Sure, we talk about hunting and such on other occasions but there's nothing like actually shooting and hunting together. This man taught me everything I know about shooting a shotgun and rifle and about hunting deer and field dressing game. Bought me my first guns. I still remember the first day of my hunting life hunting squirrels in the hills of PA. Sitting there in the dark waiting for the sun to come up and that first squirrel sitting on a branch like it was put there just for me to shoot. Taking aim while listening to my father go thorugh the steps on breathing and aiming and taking that first shot and getting that first squirrel. The pride that I saw on his face I'll never forget. He didn't hunt archery and knew nothing about bows but still realized that it was a passion of mine at a young age and bought me my first recurve and compound bows. He even took up archery in his late 40's I believe to hunt archery with me after all the stories I'd come home with about what I saw. I think I owe it to him to repay all the time her spent teaching me to hunt and shoot by returning to PA. Back to the end of the range day story: After setting each string up for him he qualified in4 arrows on 3 deer. I know that's not great shooting by our standards. However that was pretty cool and made me feel good that I helped him qualify and spend 1last year in the woods. |

Im done screwing around. Take it or leave it. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
You did a great job Jarrod. Bothpictures look great. What was the font used in the previous one you did?
I think we can use any of the 3 that we choose. Almost all of the teams have shots from the archer's angle so I'm going to go with one of the 2 Jarrod did. Plus, it shows pride in one of our team member's efforts. Thanks again. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
say does it take a few minutes for the avvy to change?
BTW the font in #3 looks much better when big. That bow must have a 50" BH woot post 100 |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I spent a couple hours today with my 16 year old nephew.Got his bow set up and was giving him some instruction. He is amped to archery hunt this year.We will see if his competency is sufficient come archery season. At the very least I will take him out with me a few times.I will set double stands in some of the spots I have so we can do some hunting together. He is a good kid,I really look forward to having him out there with me!

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I went shooting with a buddy today. We went to the shop (where they didn't have the string and cables I need) for a while, then to this park where WU has this 15' platform and bales of something for targets.
Watchin UFC now. And the avvy still not working. Silly me. I never clicked apply ![]() pretty good fights. Some teams have kickass logos. Others, not so much |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Jarrod,
Can you post the picture you have minus the badger? That one kicks some tail. Scot, That's cool about your nephew. It's great to see young people excited about hunting and especially archery. Sounds like you are doing everything right too. I also appreciate what you said on my thread and your story about what happened with you is touching. I can relate to what you went through with always being too busy. It's like our senses wake-up when we go back into the woods. What happened with your father is cool. That's great that you went with him and also got a buck. I'm proud of you being on my team. Mike, Thank you for the comments. You're a good guy. I've very proud of my team right now. What a bunch of great guys. |
