RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I've been watching our 6 month old all morning while my wife and older girls are helping host a baby shower. She just fell asleep in the swing so I'm going to read the Outdoor Life magazine that just came in the mail. Nice buck on the cover! I'll be going to church in the morning and then will spend the afternoon shooting my new buck target tomorrow. I live 5 minutes from work so starting Monday I'll be shooting on my lunch breaks 2-3 days a week and weekends. My evenings are pretty busy.
What is everyone's hunting set up? Does everyone have a place picked out to go? I have a friend who has a lease I'll be going to. Stands are already up and we went out last weekend and did some work, moved stands and cut shooting lanes. Now its just practice, practice, practice from here. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
hey ladys guess whos back lol:Di just arrived home from the family cabin where we were working on some logging and stand setting and man i found the best spot in the woods its in an old apple orchard that been grown over with oak trees with multiple trail running through it and a nice creek crossing its looks like the spot but you never know:eek:

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I shot my bow for a while on Saturday with broadheads at my 3D target. My allergies were bothering me in the morning and everything was a little crosseyed while trying to aim. So, I had to shoot with my left eye closed for a little until my right eye took over enough t oopen my left.
Boy was I shooting off until that got straightened out. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Hey I hope that turns out to be a productive spot for you! It sounds like a lot of the ingredients are there.
|
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I shot this afternoon for quite a while,to long actually,I should have stopped when my groups started to open up.I was getting some peep rotation, which was messing me up a bit.I shotdecent but as I said I should have packed it in earlier.
Yesterday I pulled a game cam and saw a bear on the way in to where the camera was.I watched the bear for about ten minutes, and let it work itself away from me.It is neat to watch them just mosey around.I am glad I had the wind and didn't spook it. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
woah sorry Ive been ignoring hn...
so fill me in w/ what's happening. I've been playing with my bow trying to get it tuned up good, and I decided I definately need a new string (though it's a little late!) after I noticed the serving on the string in the cam was somehow split. The cables seem ok but I should probably replace those too. time to drop gibblets a pm. Better get all that stuff done, the season's fast approaching! Well my honey hole isn't lookin so hot yet. Not much sign yet and only the same same couple does and a fawn that I've had all summer on the cam. but dont you worry the action will pick up come oct/nov. I may explain some other time. Last year there was a 120-130 that I saw multiple times but couldn't get a shot, and I settled on a 100" last year. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
ok w/e
my area is kind of hard to explain. Its about 15 acres along a creek with a pond. Its pretty swampy, most of it. Bordered on two sides by subdivisions. Other than that the area is kind of woodsy but there are also houses. There are corn and soybean fields about a half mile any direction. The area really doesn't hold deer too well. There's really not a ton of forage. People from the subdivisions always trespass and walk their dogs around the pond and such. It really comes alive during october and novemember. There are lots of rubs and I regularly saw four or five bucks and many does last year. It's a great funnel. The reason I explain this is because there is a 50yd clearing and a pretty wide path that I would like to plant next year. I know it's not much. What i want is something that will hold the deer after rut like but also appeal to deer before. I jsut want some advice. spring or fall? clovers, chicory, brassica, a mix of all of them? etc Edit: team name - Juggernauts. Meh, Its the best I could come up with. Whoops too late anyway. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Scot,
That's pretty cool about the bear. In 24 yrs of hunting and even more years in the woods I've never seen a bear in the woods of PA where i hunt. My dad will tell me about seeing a bear and ask me if I saw it when we'd get together at the end of a hunt and I'd always tell him now. Jarrod, I can see why that place would pick-up later on. Especially when the rut starts. Deer are still on their feeding patterns right now. I was watching a show about hunter's Specialties and they see a wide variety of food plot stuff. you might want to contact them and they can recommend the best choice. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Jarrod,
I just realized that you are finally checking in. Sorry about that man. Welcome to team Quiet Arrow. As you can see everyone is pumped and ready for this seaon. It looks like everyone has been shooting and getting ready for the season. I've done very little scouting so far this year but still feel good about the year. Most of the areas I'm hunting i've hunted there before and have a good idea about where to set-up. Even if I don't get a deer i seem to have a nack for finding bucks. My dad once told me jokingly thatI should give up actually trying to shoot a buck and become a guide after my first 3 years of archery seeing big bucks and coming home empty handed. That jinx seems to be gone though. i just put in a request for an avatar from ryanallen. Let's see what he comes up with. |

I prefercordovan personally. :D
Unlike the girls on your team we do not need a tough sounding name to feel more like big hunters. The deer we'll be posting will talk for us!! |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Any picture ideas yet guys? I've sent the one about the arrow and am looking for more.
|
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
how about an arrow slicing through the air coming at you with a hunter in full camo holding his bow in the background so that it looks like the last thing that big bucks gonna see when we shoot it;)[8D]

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
You know I kind of like that idea. Good input Nate.
You know I was wondering why Bolivar sounded familiar to me. I thought that my dad's family used to own properly out there at one timeand asked my dad over the weekend about it. My great grandfather had land there after they came over on the boat. I guess they sold it over the years though because the kids couldn't agree on what to do with it. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I don't have anything to add,I am artistically challenged!
|
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I gave him your thought on the arrow with the words around it and also Nates. I also told him about something about stealth and such. Let's wait and see what he comes up with.

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Did you see a guy has already posted a deer. It's a nice rack but still in velvet.
|
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Im serious. It will be a good spot.
Now the deer seem to be hanging around all the nearby corn, bean, and hay fields. It was the same way lastyear; when I just started hunting it, there was nothing. But then suddenly there were deer and sign all over. The bucks come because there are does, plus deer funnel through the area. Edit: I didn't know season opened that early anywhere. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Sounds like you have a solid spot. I sometimes hate scouting in the summer because the bucks start to change routs in the Fall. Finding the funnels and learning from the previous hunts.
I didn't think so myself. I thought it was the end of this month for some states. |

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Not a problem.
I've never heard of them. My shop swears by Winner's Choice. Can't your shop reserve the end for this season? You can even buy serving equipment and serve your own if it is only the serving itself and no damage to the string. That guy got his deer in South Carolina. they have sections that opened-up this past weekend for hunting. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Neither have I. They said they were better than zebra, but not as good (or expensive) as wc (which they also carry).
Another shop sells vapor trail. Do you know anything about them? THe string is old and crappy anyway. Its the string that came with it. It has a little nic in one strand and is a little frayed in places. The center serving is a little worn too. Im sick of twisting peep sites and I'm sick of the noisy tubes. Mine was pulling to the right from the cable anyway and it really bothered me. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Vapor Trail makes a good string as does Winners Choice. If you do have the time, Gibblet is the way to go. I have had John make a few string and cable sets for me and they are top notch.

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
Shane,
I didn't know you could stutter on-line. You posted the same thing twice. Vapor Trail are supposed to be pretty good and you supposedly pick-up speed with them. WC's are the only strings that offer a warranty for the Cam wear and separation that occurs on the Matthews. Zebra doesn't even do that and they make the strings for them. From what I've bene told they have about the worst strings out there. I think that's whythe WC'sare worth the extra money and they will last a few years even with a lot of shooting. Even with those strings you have to train the peep. However, no tube is needed after training. |
RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
I have winners choice cables and string.I was having peep rotation on Sunday when I was shooting. So I was debating as to whether to have the peep slightly off but have it be consistent,or twist the string every so often so the peep would line up perfectly straight.
I believe I am going to attempt to train the string.I hate not having the peep like up perfectly straight. I do like the Winners Choice because of the absence of string stretch.I want my draw length not to move at all for my style of shooting and the type of release I use. |

RE: 19-Official Team 19 Thread
A shop owner gave me the tip about training the new strings. They rotate so little and with a little training will rotate almost not at all.
After I bought my ally I put the peep on and then rotated the peep by hand so that it was aligned. After i shot I'd do the same thing. it might take a little time but it works. If it is only a little off you can use the d-loop to correct that by offsetting the d-loopto correct the issue. I still haven't received a response about our Team Avatar. |

Now that's the team spirit. "Tony is like the little scared chipmunk lashing out at what he is afraid of." I'm sure i got the quote wrong but it's still funny to me.

Now the gloves are off. Is this your tough look or the "Yeah, I know I'm cool" look? You better stick to this cause you aint going to be posing with any deer this year.
