RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Well I got out tonight in my subdivision. Had 2 does feeding 41 yards away. They never knew I was there, but did not come any closer. I will not shoot that far in my subdivision. I want a slam dunk, not a tracking job thru a bunch of yards.

Then as soon as I started walking back to my truck, the coyotes lit up not toooooo far away. I KNOW they probably won't bother me, but that really doesn't help much when I am walking out in the dark and they are yipping and barking what seemed like maybe 50 yards away. But I made it.:)

Then when I get home and go to hang up my bow. I notice 2 of my fibers are hanging off of my sight. Closer examination reveals one has pulled out of the pin and the other is broken off about an inch from the pin. So I did a little repair work and got them back in the pins and secured. As soon as I get home tomorrow I am gonna shoot a bit and make sure I am still on target. Then planning to hunt again tomorrow.

Good luck to all of you whose seasons open this weekend or on Monday. I will be hunting in IL on Monday. Taking a day of vacation.

John, you've got deer action and no idiots wandering around you! That's an improvement.

Tonight was my best night shooting my bow in a while. It was one of those rare nights where even
when I didn't feel like I made a great shot it found the 3" circle. Anyway, I'm really happy with my switch
to the Strikers. The last thing I wanted when out there was having a second thought that I can't
hit where I aim. They were flying so well, I went ahead and marked those as my hunting arrows.
I'm ready to get on stand.

BUT I'm just as ready to see somebody post some #%#^ antler on this Team!

That's gonna happen soon I predict. The right states seasons are opening up this weekend and Monday. That will help.

Glad to hear you got your arrows hitting where you want, Lebeau. This game is a big part mental. Confidence can give you a big advantage when you are out in the woods

John

Coyotes are chickens but curious in the dark. I would rather have a pack of yotes yippen at me only yards awaythen walking throughan area of freshly dug badger holes in the dark. You know he is in one of them.He waits till youare stepping over the hole to growl at youand let you know he is there. Thank Gawd he is the only one to hear your girly scream.[:o] :D Come to think of it.. walking up on a skunk in the dark sucks too!!

Maybe it's starting to happen, guys (and lady;)). I don't have crop fields where I hunt......they're to the east, west and south of me. When they get on the mast crops, though....then I have my chance.

I saw 2 six pointers on opening day.....but haven't seen a buck, since. Last night....I saw the same 2 six pointers....hard antlers and all.....and they fed below me until after dark fell. Coulda shot either of them....but it's not what I'm looking for. They're both 1.5 yr olds.

Hopefully, though....it's a sign of good things to come.

I'll report back, regularly.

Hunted a stand last night I have hunted twice so far this season. Had a small 4x4 buck bedded in the thick cut over about 100 yards from the stand. I slipped in by him at a snails pace and got set up. I had the perfect wind all evening. I watched a lot of does and few elk down in the bottom ground with my binocs...Up on the mountain in the saddle I was in, nothing but the little buck got up and fed around. It was a nice evening. I got my new camera yesterday, so I took some pictures. The full moon was really cool looking last night. I was really suprised nothing slipped out under my stand into the cut over to feed..but then again with the moon the big boys are waiting till well after dark.

I got home 1 hour after darkand had a bull elk, few cowsand 5 youngbucks out in front of my place feeding in the moon light. Oh I saw 2 other young bucks and 5 does driving out. No big boys anywhere..

Good luck this weekend guys! I am looking forward to hearing back from you.

Guys and lady, my hunting might be put on hold for a while. My wifes Lukemia has flared up. The meds she has been on are not keeping it in check any longer.

I posted this in the main forum. I will keep you updated. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

I got some pics of a few bucks that are roaming my subdivision. Mobow is gonna come out tonight and see if he can get his first antlered deer. He will be setup 20 yards behind the camera. And I will be about 75 yards down the trail, just in case.:)

If I would have gone here on Thursday instead of acrossthe road, I would have had them right in my lap. OH WELL.[:@]

And this guy had to check out the camera.:D

Nice buck pics John !

No shots taken tonight but four more steps and I was going to let one fly. She came in behind me and circled my tree a few times. She milled around a bit in and out of the dry creek bed. She was about to step out into one of my lanes when she got spooked. Gave a few snorts, ran behind my tree about 15 yards. Stopped to give a few more blows and trotted off. Hopefully better luck in the AM.

Well I killed 200,432 mosquitoes this weekend in Ohio.

Tonight I saw

1:00 1 doe walking out
1:30 a couple having sex(tresspassing) and their dog running all aroung the woods I was hunting
4:00 Another doe

I walked in and decide to go across the bean field. Well the owner land I am hunting does not own the field. I was told he did, I met some guys in the field and we had a nice talk. I told them it was my mistake, showed them where I was hunting, all was good.

Going to bed 4:00 am comes quick, back in MI

You need to get yourself a thermacell. Light it up and no more skeeters, I MEAN ZERO. And I have had deer around me with it going.

Mobo hunted with me tonight and he had a doe around him for over an hour with it going. They are a hunt saver.

LebeauHunter 10-01-2007 08:00 AM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I couldn't hunt without a Thermacell in the early season. I've been busted swatting. One time I
thought I was a tough guy and decided to let the skeeters bite and not to really swat them -
I looked like I had chicken pox.

I want to hear more about this couple, Germ. You don't see that in my woods. First it's
some lake with bikini babes, now it's a couple in the woods. What kind of scouting you doing? :D

Well, I'm pumped. I've got all my gear in top shape, all descented and organized, shot the bow
one last time yestereday and am ready to go. Gonna take off early after work. This place I'm
going is better for does, but some nice bucks have been killed. I would love to get my first bow-doe
and then go after only bucks with my bow the rest of October.

Bad news is it will get to 90 today. The good news is that a "cold" front is coming this weekend, and
Sat. night the low will be 55 and high around 75. Should cause some deer movement this weekend.

Captain Germ has a BIG DOE DOWN!!

He called me on his way in. Just after he shot her it started pouring. Luckily he put a good hit on her and he saw her fall. But everything is soaked from himself to the deer to his truck. He said by the time he gets home he will be to tired to post, and he is going to bed.

But I bet we will hear all about it tomorrow. Congrats Captain!!! Now go get us some inches of bone!!:)

Well opening evening was ok. Its that he didnt want to take the extra couple steps. Seen 2 bucks tonight. they kinda took me by surprise. I heard a bunch of noise and next thing I know here comes a nice buck running away from another buck. The buck that was chasing him stopped just short of the logging road. Had he stepped on the logging road he would have been 10 yards away. Anyway he wouldnt commit and turned and walked down a hollar in a thicket. But this was opening day so I will be back at it tomorrow...

And that's the TRUTH ruth!! No lie, by the time I hooked my Summit to the tree, I had killed about 30 of them. Up the tree, fire up the Thermacell, 5 minutes later, I had a nice pleasant evening. That doe was w/in 20 yards of my stand and never had a clue on the earth I was there. Thermacell be damned, though I COULD smell it......But who cares....no more skeeters!!

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Just a little rambling....

I've decided to leave my MOST productive area alone until the good part of the year (Nov./Dec.).....and I hunted a stand, saturday, close to my honey hole. I observed 7 or 8 deer (can't remember), including one new buck.....but not a buck I would be taking. I sat up yesterday in the spot I thought they were headed to.....and sure enough....about 6:00.....I saw them funneling my way. they'd have to cross a fence to get to me....and I was set up 30 yds inside the fence line. They got to about 20 yds from the fence.....and took a right.....button hooking back in the direction they came from. No biggie....I almost won the cat/mouse game.....and they're no wiser for the intrusion. I slipped out the back way. If I leave these deer alone.....they'll be there in a few weeks....and where there's does in Nov......there'll be bucks. it happened that way, last season.

So....all in all...a great day on stand....and a pre-cursor for what's in store. I'll continue to hunt the fringes of my good spots.....and hopefully I'll keep having some success with the does. Nothing's a given, though.

Nice nanny Germ!

Had one blow on me. [:@] It was a great spot but a bad stand location. I didn't set it up,
beggars can't be choosers and I didn't have enough time to trim a tree and move the climber.

Anyway, it is dead still out there. I'm still as can be standing for about 15 minutes straight. I slowly
move to wipe some sweat out my eye and not 30 yards away it's blow, blow, blow. I'm thinking she was
on to me (maybe scent b/c no wind) and moved to a spot where she could see out of the woods
but I couldn't see into. It was probably the only place I could've been busted visually w/o having a shot.

Gonna get back after it Wednesday afternoon after work.
