Pumpkin,
Do you use this stuff in the U.P.? I can't see it blending in. I have never been to the U.P. but I figure it to be like Northern, Wi with paper company land? |

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I think GMMAT didn't like the Avatar's subtle drug message. [8D]
Germ, looks almost as good as me in my new Cabelas Predator gear. :D My wife thought I was crazy shooting my bow with the jacket on in 90 degrees. :D Troy, sounds like you hunt in big buck paradise. The mapped area is part of our hunting land and isn't new. We are just clearing out some of the timber. Thanks to John's suggestion, I think we are going to leave the canal corridor wooded. We do have a stand in that East corner (and about 8 others on that map). I've seen a lot of deer and taken 3 does (with rifle) on that stand, but nothing bigger than a 6 point that almost walked under my stand. We also have a huge stand of Durana clover bordering that woodline. We might leave a small woodline there at the edge of the woods near that clover. I also want to brush in that corner stand better, it is too open (set up for rifle). |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Good over here. Spent the last couple of weekends teaching kids how to shoot. I see some people are getting out hunting or getting everything ready. And some have got the swing set all done. http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/micons/m16.gif I cant wait to get to get out in the woods!!! The season here is not for another month Oct 1st. But I will get to get out with my son for youth season at the end of September. So we have been getting ready for it. Got a couple of little bucks and a nice buck on one of the trailcams, so we will try to get on those. Congrats to the guys who have all ready harvested something!! Good luck to all in the field!!!

checking in here from work...oh man...just two more days.. Had a decent bull and several cows milling around in my neighbors oats this morning.. when I leftfor work.
Will, I dont know if its a big buck paradise here, I just do a lot of searching over thousands and thousands of public land acresto find a few older bucks to huntand granted I have the time if I elect to do it. I'll be hunting 3 different counties for sure, possibly 4 depending on how this early season plays out. Oh and North Dakota this year too! I can't wait to get out there with Tim and Tyler. Touch base later guys.. Troy |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Hey Troy,
I was really just in shock at the descriptions of all those big bucks. I didn't mean to sound like one of those guys that thinks that "some guys have it easy." I recognize that finding a bunch of monster bucks out in the middle of nowhere (on public land no less) takes skill, dedication, and hard work. |

ORIGINAL: jmbuckhunter ORIGINAL: Huntinlady :)My icon didnt show up right :) Troy we all know deer a crawling behind every rock, only guys in the N East truly hunt[:-] On a real note I(rest of us)have pile respect for the way you hunt. In MI you can not see 30 yds into the woods, LOL I would love to sit and glass like you!!! Respect!! GMMAT I said N east not southeast;) |

Gary, yup behind all the rocks..and all the trees..;) You know Gary I can't imagine not being able to use binocs. Here it's thicker than all get out in Northernpart of Idaho, but the logging practices opensup parcels ofthe canopyand the steep terrain allows one to glass for miles in some cases and knowing what habitat to glass during certain times of the year is crucial too.. I would have my work cut out for me in aflat thick forest land. I am sure you guys become excellent at deciphering sign. Here it's pretty nice to be able to keep an eye on a buck from 1000 yards and he has noidea you are watching him.No impact. Often is the case though that by the time hunting season opens, the daylight has dimished an hour from late July and you still are forced to kill him back in the dark timber.. but glassing definately is a huge starting point of ambush. I do envy the more consistent wind currents of flatterground. When I was out with Tim in ND..I was amazed at the winds abilty to be fairlyconsistent. It was a nice change of pace.. There are no trees there though! chit..we all have our obstacles.. I believe anyone that hunts pressured critters in any enviroment with a bow..has to work at it to consistently kill.. Here the hunters pressure quite a bit, 2 month long rifle season right through the rut..etc.. but the real pressure and educator of whitetail bucks here are the mountain lions, wolves, coyotes and bears.. I give them 75% of the credit for conditioning very skittish and wise old bucks.. 25% to the hunters.. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Think I might goout and do a little scouting a couple miles from home tonight. I got some bean fields next to an overgrown field that is a good bedding area. Two years ago a monster came out of there to feed just out of range. Gonna see who is living there now.
See if I can post some pics later tonight. |

Germ,
Louisiana = swamps. :D In the winter it all looks like a swamp in the woods sometimes. [&:] Most of what didn't get turned into cropland is swampy and remained hardwoods. So scent proof or not, rubber knee boots come in handy. That, and we have plenty of wasted efforts on food plots, even in land that isn't normally below water. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I have been shooting a lot this past week. I have always been a pretty good shot. The last three years I have struggledwith Target panic(shoot why moving is what I do).
Well I have it licked and back to my old self. I just kept it simple. Pin on target and shoot, pin on target shoot. I am hitting a 2'' circle at 35 yds with by BH. I am doing this with my ROSS and Hoyt. I always used to shoot like this, put the pin on target and shoot. Well three years ago I wanted to shoot target, well that was a mistake. I am a deer hunter, so that is how I practice now. I am back!!!! Funny with deer it never happed, because I put my pin on target and shoot, LOL I have always felt th ability to shoot quick was an good thing for a deer hunter. I watch the guys on TV and I yell shoot, LOL Ok I have to eat dinner, later |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Back from scouting, all I saw was a doe and fawn as I drove in the driveway. Here is a pic of the area I was watching. It is a big weedy overgrown field that butts up to a bean field. The deer bed in the weedy field and come out to feed on the beans. But not tonight.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Mornin' Fellas, just getting ready to start work here, meetings today..pretty much bout it.. No students until next Tues.
Less than 24 hours and I will be bowhunting, gonna try to get 2 hours of huntingin before work tomorrow morning, behind my house (stretch bucks area)and then hunt the evening over in the next county for the 4x5. My new pole barn is in the process of going up as we speak.. can't wait. Finally gonna have a nice place to take care of critters. Gonna shoot again this evening; the strikers are really flying true and I am really enjoying this new range finder.. Kicking myself now for not getting one years ago.. Gonna be up this evening, final preps on clothing, packing the gear..etc.. I will be hiking into the 4x5's area with my Nontypical Stand and Rapid rails on my back..hang it and hunt him very close to his bed, where he enters a big cut for evening feeding..Hes up high..gonna be about a 1/2 mile hike in then about 1000 feet ascent up the steep mountain.. I am going in real early in the afternoon. taking my time..keeping the sweat way down..I'll be showered, clean, spray down, dress in the woods, hike in only in my rubber boots and base layers, spray again. When I get close to the tree I'll hang my stand (very fast and easy with the rails)tree is picked out too. I'll pull out my 3-d scent lok suit and spray down again, then get covered from head to toe in the stand. Wait him out till dark. If he holds true I should see him well before dark as I am set up at least 100 yards back in a saddle that leads to where he enters the cut. He's been hanging with a smaller wide rack buck. There is also another very good 5x5 in there thats going to be very hard to pass on and who knows maybe some buck I didnt catch all summer will surprise me. Theres a nice little herd of elk in there too. I saw a nice branch antlered bull in there. If he walks by hes gonna eat an ACC. I love this time of year, the prep work is done, I am ready to drop the hammer. Nothing better than bowhunting whitetails.. (my bro will meet me for the evening hunt) I got him set up on another really nice evening travel route to an orchard and water hole...been several bucks using it) Talk to ya later teammates.. Time to get this party started.. |

Troy I have feeling, something big is going to happen.
I won't be hunting this weekend. A best friend needs my help. Friends come first!!! |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
TROY,
Man I hope your plan comes together! I am getting excited just reading about it. Can't wait to see you sitting behind one of those bucks you got your eyes on. I never hunt without my rangefinder any more. One of my must haves! By the way, what do you teach? |

I am teaching 5 Health classes this year and one P.E. It changes a bit year to year... Thanks Guys, Rybo, Germ, Fran, Jim, Mike.. I am just stoked that its finally time.. Mike, Scott and I had a great time antelope hunting. I am definately hooked and plan on going back every year now.. I learned a lot down there. If you ever want to come out and do it with me in mid August..just let me know my friend.. there is so much ground out there we could never cover it all. Its a great place to campwith the family and the trout fishing looked awesome. I could see Garrett and Conner digging that.. ;) |

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Hey Team, just checking in.. I just got to work.. I hunted 2 hours this morning..was in the stand before daylight and had to leave at 7:30 am..to make it here to school.
I had a4x4 (possibly 4x5) bull elk and cow come by. I couldnt shoot the elk and I thought about it... I told myself going in there this morning with the restricted time I had..that there was no way I could getan elkout by myself with the time I had....My boss would giveme a few hours on a buck..but an elk I would be pushing it.. ... lmao figures a decent bull would walk by.. same bull I have on trail camera on that same trail.. My brother will be here this afternoon so from here on out any good bull will be a target. I didnt see any whitetails by my stand but things just started to moveup the mountain where I was positionedwhen I had to go..Oh I wanted to stay a couple more hours..bucks and does were coming off of fields down in the bottoms as I crawled out..I was about 1000 feet up a big drainage on a network of old logging roads that lead to bedding areas...It was still a great morning and to have a couple elk walk by at 15 yards was cool! I am at work for a short day today..and then will be out hunting the big 4x5 bucktonight.. Thanks everyone on my team for the support, I am gonna hunt my arse off these next 5 days ( am off till Tuesday)..mornings and evenings.. we will see what happens.. ;) Gary, I hope everything is ok with your friend... Take care |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Maybe you will get ol' 4 X 5 tonight, or with more time tomorrow they will file by just like the elk. Good luck you luck dog.:)
|
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
