Man, I thought we were on the board there for a minute. Oh well only a matter of time. Way to go huntm up. I too am looking for my first velvet buck. There are a few around when my season opens in MO (Sept. 15) but I have never seen one while hunting.

Don't know about the Copper John, but I have an Extreme 900 with .019 pins. I think I could hunt with moon light. The brightest pins I have ever seen.

If it's not storming tomorrow night after work, I plan on running up to the farm I hunt in IL. Gotta see if my bachelor group is still feeding in the beans. I will try to get some pics.

Just ordered an ASAT ground blind from buckeyebuckhntr tonight. Got a couple of spots where one could really come in handy. No big trees but lots of brush and weeds. And one huge oak tree in the middle of a soy bean field that is loaded with acorns. This tree is 4' in diameter, too big for a stand. But when the acorns start to drop, every deer in the area will be on em. Gonna try and stick one from a blind.

Right on, can't wait to see pix if you get some! I really need to get a camera/binocular combo. I dont take enough still photos of bucks, but have tons of video.. My video camera takes pix but they are only 1.7 mega pixels.. [:@]

I am gonna continue to hunt more and more off the ground too John, (mostly natural blinds)I really like this new guille suit, I got the lopers would look right past me, I'll see how the whitetails react soon.

Troy, what kind of body weight do your whitetails have out there? What do they eat mainly, any crops at all or just browse from the woods?

You got some nicebucks if there are no crops around for them to load up on.

I wish my extreme sniper xlt was that bright, its poor in low light unless I use the light. How long are the 900's fibers?

I just scoped out 22 acres of ground I just recieved permission to hunt and it is THICK. It is so thick of green briars, you can see 20 yds tops when walking. It is loaded down with oaks so hopefully I'll have a big bruiser in velvet down Sept 15.!!!

They are only about 6" max. I was told it has a lot to do with the material, not just the length. Better fiber = more light transmission.

Hey Germ, it looks like that swing thing would make some good kindeling wood. Maybe bring some for the campfire at next years G2G.

John, I've posted on this topic quite a bit in the past. I've been weighing most of my bucks live weight and dressed for 10 +years now. We have so many predators here, I dont dress bucks in my good hunting areas, I get them out and dress them at home. The weights of bucks 3.5 and older here almost always top 200 lbs live weight and 175 plus dressed. I've killed two bucks that field dressed over 215 ...so they pushed 250 or 260 live weight.. Cold winters and pretty decent feed keep the body weights up..we dont have the 300lbrs like I see in hvy ag country of the mid west or in Canada....

Here the majority of the deer I hunt are products of logging habitat which produces excellent feed in the form of many different browse type species of plants. Some of our deer get the best of both worlds, where ag like alfalfa, wheat, oats, etc butt up against mountain habitat. In the farm country I have seena couplehuge bodied bucks that I know would push 300 lbs live weight, I just dont have any access to those types of private ground. Most of my bucks are Timber/mountain bucks..

Hey Gary, the swing set looks great! I wrestled with one of those earlier this summer..looks almost like yours... I know what you mean when you talk about putting it together..geesh I hated ours by the time I was done, but the kids love it! thats what counts.. I took rebar and bent it in a big U shape and pounded like 6 of them into the ground to really anchor ours..

Tlutter, great bud, I hope it turns out to be a nice honey hole!

If you get a chance....check out the Viper line of sights. Rob/PA turned me onto this one last year.....and it's the brightest either of us has ever seen. I tore the fiber sout of mine oming out of the turkey woods when Rob was here in the spring.....and had them replaced with Fitz fibers. They're great. I don't need a sight light.....even in my blackened out DB.

just my .02

IT IS QUIET IN HERE! I hope that means everybody is out prepping for the season.

Where is everybody? I know a few have checked out for the weekend, but no visitors tonight either. Boy we must be getting boring.

Well I was planning on going to a 3D shoot this weekend with mobo and a couple other buddies. First mobo backed out, his daughters birthday party. He would rather hunt opening day and skip the 3D shoot. That was his options.:DThen the other 2 guys backed out too. So I don't think I will go by myself. I plan on doing some scouting either Sat evening or Sun. Still trying to get permission to hunt a few more lots in my subdivision too. Can't catch the owners home.

Rob, wow takin the whole openingweek off to hunt. Hope it pays off for ya! I did that a couple of years, now I wait till the rut gets going full throttle to take off that much time. I might take off opening day for IL, MO starts on a Sat. so no need to use vacation.

Morning lady and gentlemen, and you too Fraley.:)Hope everyone on team chaos survived the crazy weather we had last night. We had some rain and pretty good wind but no problems here. We could still use some more rain.

Might have to make a run to Cabelas today. I don't really need anything, but they are having their fall hunting sale and I might just run across something that I have left off of the list. Have a good day and keep us of of the back pages. We have a reputation to keep up ya know.

We got hit by the storms very hard over here in Indiana. Not much damage here at my place, but the town got hit pretty hard. Uprooted trees stuff like that. We didnt have any power until later in the night. I think everyone has power now.

mornin JM and PUMPKIN.

As you probably seen on the news here in Wi and Il border its nuts with flooding. I went and checked out hunting spot and the creek is way back down but this water will help now. It was getting pretty dry but now will hold the bucks even better.

No it's gonna cost you 2" per post.

Oh yeah, pumpkin is on a family outing. Gotta pay his dues before bow season starts. Us common folk are holding the team together in his absence.

I am waiting for all that water to get down here and push the deer out of the bottoms and up onto the land that I hunt. In 1993 we had the worst floodsin historyand I saw more deer that year than ever. They all got pushed off the islands and lowlands. I only live a mile or so from the Missouri River.

I went out to the bean fields in IL tonight. I didn't find my bachelor group. But I did find a stud bucks bedroom. The problem is, it is in the middle of a 100 acre bean field. I was walking thru the field to whereI was going to sit and glass the field. I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye and glanced over that way. I see a true monster bounding towards the woods. He is at least a 10 pointer with a couple of forked tines or stickers. Didn't get a good enough look. But he is tall and wide. I went over to where I first saw him and found 5 beds in the beans about 70 yards from the woods. I never even knew he was there until he got up. He would be really hard to sneak up on out in the beans, and when he is laying down he is totally concealed. I don't think he is one of those I saw on my last trip out there. This guy is much bigger.
