RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
Well guys, I back. I survived Hawaii. I can tell you that after two weeks on the road, I was ready to get home. Never did put a line in the water. Never did mountain biking. What I did do was dive all weekend long. I forgot how much fun diving was. I haven't done that since 89. This Christmas, my daughter is getting lessons because I need a dive buddy.
Moving forward, I'm ready to start getting serious about hunting. I have to travel again next week but the following week I plan on going to my honey holes. I'll get a good pre rut look at them and who knows, maybe a hiker, golfer or horseback rider will kick one worth shooting my way. This time of year coming up is real good for that since folks like to stroll the woods looking at the changing leaves. Good luck guys! |
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
I got royallyscrewed and am really upset over this.Since I been stuck to hunting private ground this yr I been doing alot of scouting on the run. Well Thursday I saw a big big buck late in the day at about 100 yrds in the late evening. The next morning I snuck in and hunted in the same place then at noon I snuck down the ridge to scout out where I saw the big buck the prevous evening and found a killer drainage with a massive trail running about 40yrds above it So I set up my ground blind in some real nice cover. The drainage sits just up the ridge from a thick swamp right bewtween the swamp and the only good crop field in the area which is planted in soybeans. About 45 mins before dark I saw the big buck again but he didn't come all the way up to the big trail above the drainage instead he walked a very small trail right at the top of the drainage. I also saw 9 does and 3 other small bucks(non shooters) After the buck moved out of the area I studied the cover down close to the drainage and picked out a nice deadfall that my groundblind would hide very well in and would give me a 20yrdshot on the small trail and still have a 30yrd shot at the heavy trail. After dark I quietly moved my ground blind down into this dead fall and snuck out of the area.Unfortantly friday night I had to go to work after I left the woods. I work 12 hr shifts friday night and saterday night last week so I wasn't going to get back to the groundblind till sunday evening. Well at work friday night I was telling some guys about the stand and we was all sharing our stories from the weeks hunting and I told them about finding the drainage and seeing the big buck. Saterday night (sunday morning) One of the guys who was off that night comes into work and tells us he got a monster buck so we all go out to check it out. This guy has a 600 acre lease in some of the best woods I have ever seen. The more I looked at the buck the more Icouldn't beleive how muchit looked like the buck I saw the 2 prevous evenings. So I ask him where did he get it and he said " From your ground blind. Since you said you wasn't hunting saterday I figured it is on public ground so I went and hunted from it." Well needless to say I am pissed. The buck I figured will gross in the mid 180's and will net prolly high 170's.A 11 point with a perfect 10 point framewith a 23" spread.I still can't beleive this can happen. I still got 1 more good shooter buckthat I know about to go after butnot allowed to start hunting this public property till after the 15th so now I am got to just chill for a week and wait :( HopefullyI don't get screwed on this 1 also.
T3 awsome buck and congrates man Trytan |

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
Ouch, Trytan74, remember "Loose lips sink ships" Don't brag about bucks until he's in your truck and then don't tell anyone WHERE you got him. It will be like your favorite fishing spot, catch a fish and seven other fishermen show up.
Nice buck T3! |

t3 has lit a fire underneath me..tomorrow will be my first serious day in the woods. Temps will be dropping to a low of 32 here in MO and the deer should be moving a bit more! I have already found a few scrapes and alot of rubbing going on..

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread

got a roll of film developed on 19 pictures there is 77 turkeys and 1 fawn. that's what i'm up against this year!!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
Hunting season has just begun! Yes, I could and have already hunted, but only working out the kinks. Next week I will be at the petting zoo and avery private golf green/personal residence.
Guys, t3 put team dead balls on the map, put up a decent 6 point or what ever that scores 75 points and were in the lead. That's all we need right now. It's a team effort. Everyone here will play a roll. |
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
T3 that is a nice buck but I think I would of let him walk one more year...........just my opinion! In my book just another average buck;):D! Seriously great take and I am glad you popped the you know what for our team. I will be getting after it this weekend and hopefully I will CRUSH something!
|
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
Went out this morning and saw 12 does. surely in a couple weeks there will be at least 1 buck following! I was driving out of the field and saw a real nice buck on his way to another stand of mine on the same place..hopefully sunday night I can get a better look at him!
|
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
First of all nice buck T3, hopefully you had the money saved for the taxidermy bill.
I've been out a few times so far seen a few does and had a close encounter with a nice nine or ten only saw one side but if the other matched pry a 150 class had him at 30 yards coming everything perfect and felt the dreaded swirling wind on the back of my neck and he was gone in a second, pulled the stand out and moved it a ways, don't think he was spooked out of the property but I was betting he was smarter then to walk by that stand location again. I'm on to him now so his days are numbered, rut will hit and he'll be mine. |
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
I can't believe it's finally here! The true hunting season. I'm hunting just about all this week. Tomorrow morning is really just for fun. I'm just hunting my yard below my pond. If I see one of the 12's come by, I might be tempted to shoot. I just went out on my deck to see if anything was around the pond and one of the 8's and 10's were right there. The 8 definitely isn't a shooter. He has about a 15 spread and about 3" - 8". The 10 is just under. He's about 18 spread and 5" -9" tines. I'm so excited to see these type of deer around my yard. Just think what they will look like next year!
Guy's I can say, this year will be my year to kill a monster. I can feel it in my bones. Stay tune for the updates this week. BTW, I'm rigging up a mount for my wife's video camera. I'm going to mount it in the stablizer position. Even if I don't get the opportunity for the big one this week. I should be able to show off the petting zoo. Good luck guys! |
RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread
if it's that easy, don't do it. i don't care if he's 200", it sounds like it'slike shooting your neighbors cat. what fun is that? i'm just in a pissy (can i say that here?) mood. From the stand, i've seen one deers ear (seriously!) in the last like 3 weeks!!!! I knew this was going to be a crappy year. i'm getting no buck pics on either of the properties i hunt. to top it off the deer are totally nocturnal on the public land I hunt. i drove around for about 9 hours saturday looking at hunting land. for 70k you can get 40 acres of swamp 3 hours from my house. whoohoo [:-]

RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Thanks ghemry.
I have been out in the woods the past 2 nights with a little luck. Last night I Hunted the same place I saw the 12 does and saw 19 does total and rattled in a small 4 point. prolly wouldnt have scored 30 inches. I went out tonight to a new place that a friend of mine owns, 900 acres and I didnt see anything where i was set up at. Ill be going back to the same stand I have seen all the does in all day thursday to hopefully get a better buck in shooting range. 3 years ago I set out a salt lick at the stand where I have been seeing the does, and with no exageration the deer have made a hole that is about 2 1/2 feet deep. The doe I shot had its front legs down in the hole to give me a good stretched out vital shot broadside at 22 yards! She was the farthest that has ran so far with the slick tricks only going about 60 yards to crash! |
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
I've gone out 11 straight times without seeing a deer from the stand. it's been since 9/23 since i saw a deer for more then half a second from the stand. the october lull is killing me. if i can sneak out of work early i'm going to try it again tonight. even when i don't see deer i have fun.
i'm getting close to buying some hunting land. i'll probably make an offer on some Friday. that's how sick i am of hunting public land! I've shot 2 of my best 4 bucks on hunting land but never during bow season! |
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Well guys, I don't have much to report back from my first hunt I'll claim this year. I was deep in the woods in the petting zoo seeing how it was back there. The front part where I was hunting had a tornado tear through and took a lot of trees down. I saw one horse back rider, and heard a few hikers off and own. It's still very early in the season. Leaves on the trees. Deer have plenty to eat. No need to move around too much. The one thing I did see was one of the biggest tracks if not thee biggest tracks ever in my life. It was made this morning sometime and close to the size of my palm. He had to be huge. When I left, I swung by the field to see what was out there and there was about a dozen or so grazing.
I'm going out again in the morning to see how it looks then. I need to get my bearings set for Nov. when the rut comes around. The good news is that my boss has said I need to be in Baltimore all week long the beginning of the month. Darn, I hate when they set me up like this.:D |
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Hey Fieldmouse
I was out hunting in my ground blind earlyer this morning and one of your cousins just walk in , it was a little tiny mole with a very long nose so it reminded me of you. No offence intended just messing with ya and NO I didn't check to see if it had num nuts , in fact I dont think they have any balls at all |
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Yeah, but you didn't shoot his a$$ because your not that good of a shot!
We only want the hunters who are Dead Balls Accurate! |
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
hey guys, just checking in.
I have been having some boring mornings out in the stand. I usually will scare something up on the way to the stand, then sit in the stand for hours and not see a thing. I have seen a couple does and fawns, but no bucks while in the stand. So when I was out today for pretty much the same old thing, I decided to check my camera of my "morning stand". Basically, what I found out is that I should be in that stand in the afternoon, it seemed like it had the most movement, especially by bucks. However, I did find one pic that intrigued me, a couple decent bucks right in front of my stand during daylight. I will more then likely be out there this afternoon. ![]() |
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Oh .... I'm pretty accurate even at forty yards I can put four arrows in a size of quarter but my question is " how did you get on the team " other than having NUM NUTS.
|
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Grandpa, your getting old and slow. That's what happens when you retire. It took you almost 24 hours to come back with something. Next thing to go is your memory. You better go get your arrows right after you shoot because you just may not remember where your target is after 5 mins.
|
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Well went back out this morning in the same spot. Right behind a school. Thought I'd be able to school a big buck there but no buck showed. Just a bunch of does. I think that's going to be where I get my big one this year. Can't wait until all of the leaves drop and the rut begins. My next trip will be in a few weeks and I hope every week through Thanksgiving.
|
RE: 7- Team Official Thread
Beleave or not , I don't stay on the computer 24 / 7 like some mouse waiting for chesse .
