I think it's Cheese?

I know grandpa. When the sun goes down so do you. It's ok. You'll be able to get up early and hunt tomorrow morning. Don't forget your teeth on the nightstand.

Man the deer have been moving the last 24 hours. remember how 2 days ago i said i hadn't seen any deer in 11 straight times out? last night there was a fawn in my food plot when i got out there. i snuck up within 30 yards. sat there waiting for more deer, a doe and another fawn came out. the doe ended up busting me as I tried to get a better view. fun to 'spot and stalk', especially on a calm day.

this morning i saw a buck and 2 does. the buck was right on their tales. he wasn't anything special. then i went looking at hunting land and saw 29 does. tonight i went out and saw a doe and two fawns (several times). I MISSED THE DOE, man it's killing me how dumb i am. one more step and it would have been a perfect broadside shot with no brush. do i wait??? NO!!!! DAH!!! anyway, nice to see some deer again.

Bambi got very lucky tonight. I had 6 deer messing around about 40 yrds without any chance for a shot. They just kept walking down toward the highway when they turned around heading back up near me. I picked out the two little ones saying I'm going to drop one of them tonight. Well one of them got within 5 feet of being dead. I was ready to keep bambi from suffering through such a cruel winter. Oh well maybe next time.

RE: 7- Team Official Thread

No I can't grandpa. I knew I had room to get my tractor down there with my loader on it to get bambi out of there. Your talking to a very lazy hunter. I hunt over populated areas and areas I don't have to drag deer very far. I've also found a place I can donate the whole deer guts and all and still get a tax deduction.:D

RE: 7- Team Official Thread

I got another doe this morning. I had about the funnest 20 minutes in the woods ever between 8:40 and 9:00. a small buck was chasing a doe all over the place. In that short time i saw 5 different deer.i passed on the little 5 pointer, shot the doe right through the heart. the fletching end of the arrow broke off. i found it stuck in her heart while field dressing her. that was neat to see. she dropped in less than 30 yards.

I picked up the (all marketing, i know) mad buck growl (which does not sound like a growl at all!) and did some grunting and rattling. I figured I'd listen for deer as i pack my stuff up and get ready to go do some scouting. within a minute deer started showing up everywhere!!! pretty fun morning! now, i'm not saying this buck growl call is worth the hype, i'm just as skeptical as everyone else about these new mad and primos calls. whether it was the call or not that was amazing!!!! for all i know it could have just been a coincidence. like i said, i'm skeptical.

good luck these coming weeks guys. I'm taking the week of the 5th off to gun hunt. if i get a buck then, the whole contest thing is all over for me. hopefully i'll get one w/ bow.

Well guys, NOvember is coming. I hope to start hitting it hard myself. I saw a pretty 10 point last night coming home from the haunted house. I know he's one of them hanging around my neighborhood. He was coming out of the park land area where there's no hunting. Who knows, if I get skunked next month up north I may have to start hunting one of these deer hard.

Good luck!

Went out once last week and set up a new stand and rattled in the same buck 3 times! A little 8 point that would have scored about 60 inches but had a really small body so I decided to let him walk til next year. It was funny because there was a hill behind me and the buck stood underneath my stand and looked up the hill trying to figure out where the rattling was coming from. Ill be in the woods wed-fri. The other place I hunt with my uncle and he has seen 8 different bucks, and he missed a 9 point that he has on camera that would score between 130 and 140. Im anxious to get in the woods again!!

I just got some new permission on a neighboring farm. Has two fields, 1 of thems already turned and the other still has standing beans. Seperating the 2 fields is some evergreens and overgrown thickets and that. I decided to sit the beans as its the only food source on the 2 farms I hunt. I brought out a buck decoy to see if I could draw one in. Well got out there around 1230 found a tree to sit against, so I started rakin the leaves out around the base and pullin back some branches and that. Heard a branch break and looked over to my left, all I see is the white from a deers neck follow it up to see its a small 6. It was about 35 yards away, I crouched down fumblin to get my bow and an arrow, looked back up and he had moved over 10yards more onto the trail. He was bobbin around seein if I was another buck rubbin an scraping. He jumped back again, I had no shot at all was to thick and he finally bounded away. Im assuming he winded me. Never even had the decoy out or anything yet. About 6:10, I look across a treeline splittin the bean field. I seen a monster bodied buck cruisin in, I didnt have my binos. His rack wasent that wide but he had long tines.. my guess would be an 8pt but cant say for sure. Anyways, he got to the treeline, and I let out a few grunts. He seen my decoy and wasent happy at all. He started thrashing the trees and shrubs for a good minute then jumped through. My heart startin pumpn, I was thinkn sweet, hes gonna come right in and tear my decoy up. He kept cruisin straigh across, stoppin grazin, lookin at my decoy. He made it the the field edge/pines about 100yrds away from me, was hopin he was gonna head straight down to get behind my decoy but he slowly dissapeared into the pines and thickets. ahhhhhhhhh....... Oh well not bad for my first hunt on the property, next time im thinkn about setting up with the decoy in the overgrown field if I can find somewhere to setup with visability/shooting lanes. Its to much to try and carry the decoy and climbin stand all in one shot. Bout a 30min walk alone. Tomorrow morning I gotta go to my other huntin property, landowner asked me to rake up some leaves... and hes got a lot of property and trees :(... hopefully I will be done in time to hunt a nice creek bottom on the back of his land... got some pics of a few diff tens late summer.
Sorry for the long post, I have only been out 4-5times and this is my week off work. First day ive finally seen some action. Hopefully by sunday I will have some meat in the freezer and some points on the board.

My backs been out since I helped a landowner rake his lawn/yard/field... lol. I had a gut feeling about this morning so I made sure I got up. Went out to the bean field again, this time using a renzo buck decoy. COuldnt carry the other one cause my backs killn me. Anyways, 6am I lift the binos, first thing I see is a nice 10pt directly diagnaly across the field from me. He starts heading down the same tree line the other buck I see was at. Half way down I let out some aggresive grunts wich got his attention. He started heading straight across towards my setup. He got about 60yds and turned into the tree/fenceline that im hidden in. Though he was gonna keep crusin to get downwind of my decoy, but he just dissapeared.... arghhh.. so close yet so far away again. I walked up the treeline there crusin along and theres some good trees to sitin with, also where I first spotted the buck this morning I quickly made up a ground blind. Its basically a t intersection of trees/fenceline, only downfall is its on a hill and you cant see that far. Any suggestions?? I also found 9 solid rubs in a 10-10' area at the top corner just before it hits the pines.. They seem to be bedding to the East and travelling out to the West in the evenings.

cool picture exocet! looks like you have a great place to hunt. I'm making an offer on 40 acres tomorrow. it's been a long time coming!

I haven't been out hunting since sunday night. From here on out I can't hunt the spot where I've shot the two does this year. It's being taken over by a bunch of yahoo's for the gun season.

my bow season is already winding down. If I get a buck gun hunting then I'm done for the year!! that's exactly what happened to me 2 of the last 3 years. we'll see.

Well guys, I got a small buck. He only scores 30 inches even, but it was my first bowkill. In all reality, otherwise I would have passed on him. There was a little "ground shrinkage" but not too much. He was with another buck and he was the bigger of the two. He gave me a broadside shot at about 20 yards even, and I dispatched him with a double-lung shot and he was dead withing 10 minutes I believe. It wasnt a pass through as it hit the opposite shoulder. I am proud of the little fella either way....now I know that it IS possible for me to kill a deer with a bow and an arrow. Here is a couple pics and I will submit him tonight.

Well guys I am sorry I haven't been posting but I am having the worst season I have ever had :( I just got sent home last night from a 2 week ICU stay. I got a sore throat and it just kept getting worse and I tried to ignore it and payed the price for it big time. Had trouble breathing at work a week ago wensday and they sent me to the hospital. while sitting in the waiting room I passed out from lack of oxygen and I don't know really what happen for the next 4 days but I was told I came close to cashing it in 3 times in the period. They had to do surgery and my throat was so swelled they had to try and get a vent tube in me 3 times. Well almost 2 weeks later I am back home sore as hell. They removed my tonsals and drained a large absess in my throat. I am going to try and work on my bow today and see what I can draw but I doubt I will be able to even get it to full draw for the next couple weeks :( Girlfriend finds out I am even thinking about hunting she is going to have me stuffed so I got to take it slow but I hopeing to be back to full strength for at least a week before gun season.

Good luck to everyone else and I will be back in the program very soon.

Congrats Vogt_51 thats a awsome buck for your first deer. Lots of good eatin and good memories and thats what this is all about.

trytan, don't worry about bow hunting and especially the contest. this is all just for fun. hope you are feeling better. take it easy and listen to them docs!

nice buck vogt! Can't complain for your first archery deer. mine was a button buck! does wonders for the confidence doesn't it?

my bow season is looking kind of bleak. the pumpkin season starts tomorrow am. 2 of the last 3 years i tagged out w/ my 12 gauge. i'm holding out for an 8 pointer (i have to keep my 3 year 8 pointer streak going :)). to make things worse i can't bowhunt on the 280 acres that I got both does on. a bunch of yahoos take it over. they aren't even related to the owner (my wife's grandma) and they act like a bunch of idiots. so it kind of ticks me off. beer cans under every tree, can't wait!

Very nice buck. Congrats on your first buck with a bow.

I had a fun week of hunting. Unfortunately, I never saw a shooter in front of me. I spent two hunts wasting time in another part of the property I thought would pay off. Oh well only a few does came buy. I moved 100 yrds and wow what a difference. Saw about 12 -18 does all come out of the park one by one in great order over a 45 min period. I was sure something huge would come out. All I saw where 6 bucks and the biggest was a basket 8 point. That was the story at another good spot. A whole bunch of does and a few small bucks. The best part was in two locations, I'm climbing the tree with deer all around me. I had deer with in 15yrds while I'm still climbing.

The top of my whole week was my friend shot a big 8 point. He wasn't huge but very hard to pass up. I estimate he'll measure in the 140 range. He had some good mass, about a 20" spread and 8" tines. Right after he shot him, a much bigger one came in under his stand. I hope to get a chance at him in a few weeks. Then the last thing I saw today, but wasn't hunting, a piebald button buck. I thought long and hard about shooting him. I had all of my stuff and a green light but I passed. I do want another piebald full mount but it would be hard to sneak it past the wife these days.

Keep at it guys. Don't give up the bow for a gun. Hunt all the way this year with the best weapon, your bow!

Good luck

I love bow hunting, but there's something to be said about the bang of a shotgun launching a chunk of lead at 1900fps. I'd rather get one w/ my mathews but it's just too easy with the shotgun. I just can't resist. :)

Long story short... missed a brute 16pt this morning (clean miss), biggest deer i have ever seen and probably will ever see. we're driving tomorrow. all day. a buddy of mine and 4 old farts. guess who will be doing all the walking....hmmmm. i have 3 deer and my buddy has 3, so I'm sure it will be us. :)

RE: 7- Team Official Thread

Well my future father and brother in law and Ihave been hunting non stop since last saturday and havent been seeing much. I passed on several does early and drew back ona nice 8 that is alittle bigger than the one I shot. Anyways, we have been questioning tactics, stand placements, scent control, scents, about everything. So friday morning after an uneventfull morning hunt we decided to move one of my latter "ladder"stands about 50 yards away from where it was down into a river/creek bottom because we saw the trails down there were thick along with the cover. I knew it would be difficult down there but something had to change because nothing was working. Friday evening I hunted the stand and saw five does cross the creek dead nuts behind me from my south. I took a shot at one of them but the arrow hit a branch and never hit the mark. With a front moving in and the wind changing directions I told myself to go back there because it would be in my favor (SW to W). Got to the stand way early and sat it out as I normally like to do:D. At day break I saw several deer cross the creek alittle ways down from me and behind. At 815 my deer came right down the hill heading my way, from the north. He was coming down with a mission, head down and looking for any does in the thick stuff. The hill he came down has a clear cut so I saw him coming, I drew back and waited. He makes his way into bow range about 20 yards facing me quartering way to. I pick a spot between two trees and let it rip. The arrow hit him well back and alittle high. The arrow popped out and all I saw was blood coming out like a volcano. I waited till 9 got out of my stand and found my arrow. It got about 8 inches of penitration and covered with blood. I look alittle to the right and I found huge puddles of blood. I followed puddle after puddle and found him hunkered down like a cat dead not even 40 yards away from where I shot. For a bad shot, I got lucky and hit the arteryto harvest the fine beast. I dont have my digital camera with me so I have to wait till the film gets back and I will post the pic. My brother in law scored him at 98 3/8. The unique thing is on both g3's he has the acorn tips or pee peetips as some would like to call them but it works for me. Hope you enjoyed the story.... Pics will come shortly!

we'll let the typos slide since you got us some points. hehe.

my gun season is just about over. this is the worst gun season ever! The dnr redid our regulations again this year. 4 of us were deciding if i could shoot another doe. 3 thought I could, 1 thought I couldn't. So, I went out and shot the doe (the one I got last week). I called the DNR just to make sure I was reading it right and they told me that I was legal tagging the doe but now I can't shoot a buck in the zone I hunt 99% of the time. None of us even mentioned this as a possibility as were werereading (and re-reading the regs). I actually have to go to a different area of the state to shoot a buck.the dnr lady said she didn't even understand the regs and she changed her answer several times in the course of the 15 minute call. The only good news is I purchased 40 acres in a zone I can actually tag a buck. I should close on the land in plenty of time to get some hunting in.

I went out friday night and seen a monster..I grunted him in and he came directly down wind of me and started to circle around but it got too dark before he made it to me. I gun hunted all weekend and seen 6 different bucks in 3 hunts. Im going to be hunting with a friend on his land that has seen 14 different bucks over the weekend. Hopefully I will be able to pattern some bucks for the late season here in MO.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around at all been busy hunting the last month. I finally got my buck on Thursday, Nov. 9. It is nothing huge he scored 85 1/8. I posted the picture in the score card thread.
I had taken a weeks vacation to bow hunt before our gun season started. On the day before I got this one I stayed out all day and hunted and seen 12 different bucks some pretty decents ones also. None of them came close enough for a shot or just didn't present a decent shot. I was sitting in my Double Bull blind on Thursday morning when this one was walking on the trail at 12 yards. I hit him a bit forward and got the top of both lungs.
