Here we go. We've got a team! Rember, you, the Bow, and the deer must all appear in the picture to earn points for the team.

Went out opening day for the first time in years. It felt great slipping into the woods. I could only hear a few deer walking around behind me. My neighbor said they were all does. He had 4 of them in front of him. Got back in and reminded myself why I hate early season in NC. I had chiggers all over my ankles. Got to admire those little creatures. No worry though, I'm ready to go north and get into the petting zoo.

I feel sorry for you guys on fieldmouse's team. I was teamates with him for the past two years on the Elite 8, and we had to kick him off the team for trying to impersonate a bowhunter. He cost us the win last year cause he didn't change his suction cups on his arrows. I'm glad there is a team desperate enough to use him. It seems like they let anyone in this contest, but I , as a loyal member of HNI, just wanted to warn you. ;)
Paybacks fieldmouse. :D

I got to wait till Sept 30th myself. Itching to get there also. I should of went to africa with my buddy...lol He is leaving tomorrow and I was invited but I can't see spending that much money for that kind of hunt. I just not intrested in shooting a bunch of diffrent small deer. I rather go on a big deer hunt for half what he is paying to go over there. But it would get rid of this itch...lol

my season starts saturday. every year i get more worked up about opener. This year is a bit different though. I want the season to start worse then ever, but my season looks pretty dang gloomy. they've reduced available tags in my area because there just aren't as many deer around (in this area) as there used to be. I said the same thing last year (last year was the first time in 7 years that i didn't get a deer w/ bow)!this year I only have 1 stinking picture with antlers in it. that is totally unheard of. my cameras arewithing 200 yards of a 27000 acre national wildlife refuge! most years I have multiple pics of 3-4 solid shooters. Also, I only have about ten different doe pics (i believe they are all of the same doe). TOTAL, SINCE MID JULY, WITH 3-5 CAMS IN THE FIELD!!!! It's a bit unbelievable. I'd think the cameras weren't working if it wasn't for the bajillions of turkey pictures i've been getting.

Because of this I'll be focusing my efforts on the wildlife refuge. yea! Squirrel hunters aiming up into every tree!!! i can't wait!Hopefully, i'll look back at this post and laugh!

I'm finally checking in our computer hasbeen down for a little while and just been busy lately, sorry hope i'm not to late. This is my third year of bowhunting. This season looks to be good, I hunt private land but last year their was a lot of people on it but this year they said I might be the only one. I've seen some big bucks while driving around my area. Opening day is OCT. 1 but I will be at the Nascar race at Kansas, but you can bet the second weeked in october i'll be in a stand.
Hope I'm not to late
Good luck

I already have exchanged a few PM's with kansas and he understands. I did ask him to post a pic on our thread this year to show us what we missed.

With that said, I went out last night really just to get away not expecting much. Never did see anything. I did realize these were just practice runs anyway. My mind just was on other things. So much so I had been sitting in my stand already for a few hours when I looked down to see my safety strap still in my pocket. Wow, that was a shocker.

Don't worry guys my serious hunting will start in a few weeks. I'm planning on going AWOL from my job and go to my real hunting spots.

Good luck and don't be unsafe like me.

i barely hunted this weekend. opener morning had 30mph winds and rain so i didn't go out. went out that night and didn't see anything. then last night a tornado touched down about 1/2 mile from my house. they say 100's of homes were seriously damaged. I spent the day cleaning up 2 houses down from where a ten year old girl died. needless to say, i didn't hunt today.

Saw the post told the wife. We just turned to the news and saw the damage. Our prayers are with you and for the girl's family.

Thanks Fieldmouse. My family totally escaped this one (we had 20k damage in the last storm almost exactly a year ago). Barely a branch down this time. half a mile away there is tons of damage. tornados are freaky!

This was a good reason for me to take the plunge and buy a good honda generator. now, my late season hunting/camping trips will be with all the comforts of home! oh, don't even get me started about how ice fishing is going to be this winter :)

Rack, if I make the trip, can you drill a few extra holes in the ice for me? I went one year in Wi. Went for four days took two pictures. One was of me the other was of my neighbor. My wife gave me so much sh!t about only two pics they sit on my desk today. I loved it. My beer never got warm. I was a little depressed they never let me take my all terain vehicle, aka rental car, on the ice.

I didnt get the chance to get out in the woods this weekend. Friday night I scratched my eye somehow and it swelled nearly shut so I didnt bother setting out in the 15 mph winds we had all weekend. Im gonna try and get out before this weekend, and hopefully be able to hunt few times over the weekend. My buddy missed the 130 class 9 point yesterday morning..so maybe he will stick around?? What do you guys think?

fieldmouse, only a couple holes? I drill them by the dozen. You make the trip up here and I'll definitely drill some. In MN, Mille Lacs is the lake to go to. There are tons of cheap houses to rent. we stayed one weekend last year. had a blast! I'm sure we'll be back this winter.

I went out last night. saw about a dozen turkeys, no deer.

finally saw some deer. 4 fawns. i was hunting on the ground next to an alfalfa field (no good trees around). i thought 2 of the fawns were going to come up and lick me. one got easily within 5 yards, trying to figure out what i was. looking, sniffing, looking, sniffing. it was pretty funny. 2 more fawns came out right before dark. it never ceases to amaze me how dumb fawns are.

Exocet77 09-21-2006 09:43 AM

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread

Ya I hunt from the ground 90% of the time. Last year I had two fawns come about 10ys and they kept circln around me, stompin, bobbin there head back and forth. Great experience though, I like being @ eye level with the deer. At least your close enough to smell em...[8D] Still another week and a half before the season opener here. [&o]

One week till I get out there. Hopefully my stands arent stolen and I see some quality deer! I am always afraid my stuff will get stolen! If I ever caught someone in the process I might lose it! You read this kind of stuff all the time and it boggles my mind. I could see someone using it and coming up with a good excuse but just to take it is rediculous. Let good luck be on my side!

Fieldmouse 09-22-2006 04:28 PM

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread

Team, I have really bad news. I won't be able to hunt for the next few weeks. I have to go to Hawaii for work. It's a really tough assignment but someone has to go. It's a shame it has to be me staying out there for a week at a nice resort. On the good side, I at least will get to do something I love more then bow hunting and that's big game fishing.

Don't worry though. I have a few days picked out next month to get up to my favorite hunting areas. I got a chance to finally walk one of my areas and was very surprised to see how big the property was. In the past I've always was very Conservative about where I would go. This year someone has cut horse trails next door. I love hunting near horse trails because deer love them and it keeps the deer moving when the riders come through.

Good luck!

fieldmouse, you suck. nothing else to say about that. :)

Bagged a doe tonight. kind of a weird shot. i spined her but the entrance wound was well below the spine. the broadhead must have deflected off a rib, can't really figure out how. i figured i spined her but when i got to her and saw where the arrow hit i was a little confused. when I gutted her out i saw the broadhead hit the spine from the inside. i was only about 4 feet off the ground and the deer was probably level with me, so i guess it's not too strange that it happened.

anyway, nice to get some meat. i'm going to load up on maple sticks.

Congrats on your doe man great job.. Arrows have a funny way of moving through the body sometimes. Yrs ago I had a deer quarting away from me and my arrow hit right behind the shoulder but came out back in the guts. Somhow it completly bounced back off the inside of the shoulder blade and kept going till it came out far behind from where it went in. Got less then a week till I can hit the woods and I can't wait...lol

While, I'm of playing, oops working just incase my boss sees this, remember the rule for scoring!!!!

7. You must have a pictured posted on the contest page within the Official Score Card thread to enter a deer. The bow must be in the picture and the entire deer must be in the picture, no skull pictures, no rack pictures...the buck, the bow, and yourself must be in the picture.....call me skeptical. This rule will be enforced this year, no exceptions with no apologies.

Iwish you all luck. I can't wait to get back and have colder weather. I scouted a new piece of property yesterday. It has great signs, but loaded with chiggers. It's really just a play spot for me, when I have time to hunt. There are a few nice bucks running around. They have nice racks but probably only go in the 130s maybe a 140 is in there. I will pop one of them if I get a chance. It's one of those areas that sit in the middle of a few bigger properties with very little access for other hunters.

RackLuster 09-26-2006 09:06 PM

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread

anyone seeing any bucks? I haven't seen any this year.

Fieldmouse 09-27-2006 06:40 PM

RE: 7- Team "Dead Balls" Official Thread

Relax, guys. Let's do simple math. 10 teamates w/ 100 point bucks = 1000 = win.

Take your time, shoot your buck. It's September. I'm hunting in my state because I can. I have very little hopeto truely hit my goals. Come December, shoot the spike. Basically this is warm up. Real deer show up in Novemeber, and they have a lot more on their mind rather then getting killed. We just want to ensure the big boys pop their nut before we turn them into "Dead Balls"!
