Congrats Buck Knife? Any pics of the elk? Sounds like a great hunt! Looks like beautiful country.

Well, I finally scored last night on my biggest Massachusetts bow kill. I have not had a chance to score him yet for the contest... but it won't be huge.
I went and sat a stand that I have not sat yet this year behind a big swamp near a lime quarry. There was one fresh scrape and a loaded apple tree. I was in the pines which were getting dark quick. At about 5:55pm I heard something in the pine needles up ahead. I caught a glimpse of an ear and just figured it was a doe... Then it went to the scrape... scraped it and hit the licking branch. I could only see a bit of horn at his base because he was facing mebehind a big pine w/ some openings in it.He stood there for about 10 min w/out moving. Then he came towards the pine and saw that he was a decent buck by Mass standards. He turned broadside but wouldn't come out from behind a clump of branches. He stood there for another 5 min and every time I thought he was going to step out, he would raise his nose and smell... The wind was swirling and I'm sure he smelled me becuase I came in on my quad. He looked like he was going to turn and walk away the way he came... so if found a softball size hole and let one fly... I hit him hard and the hit looked good. He was about 20 yards away... I heard him run... stop... and then I heard him crash. I pulled out (shaking like a leaf) and went back to my inlaws house and got 3 buddies to come in to help me track just in case. We had no problem finding him. I thought he was bigger in the excitement of the tree... a little ground shrinkage took place. Like I said, he is no freak, but the biggest buck I have ever taken in Mass.
Here is a pic in the woods and another where we found him in the brook 60 yards from my stand. He dressed out at 136lb.

Medic......Congratulations on your doe and the great looking kids!! It's great fun when you get the young ones involved......mine went for the first time last year at 23 years old, her decision, and we had a blast.

Buck knife.......WOW, what a great elk hunt!!!! Congratulations to you and your family. The country is absolutely beautiful. I must have missed where you were, but it obviously is high country. Good luck with those pesky white tail!!

Western Ma......YEAAAAAH!! Congratulations!! That's a fine looking buck. How exciting for you.....I'm still waiting. Going up this week end and hopefully I will be able to stay for a few days. Youth season is this weekend so the deer should be moving around pretty good.

G and Wis........good luck this weekend. G, sorry to hear it's the end of season for you. That sucks. Ours goes until Jan 15th. I'm hoping to tag out before then!
Wis......hang in there and get that big guy.

Anyone know what's up with jrbsr......why does he think he's off the team??

Well, good luck to all you guys. Talk to you when I get back.......hopefully with pictures.
Good luck and hunt safe.
Diann

Good luck to everyone this weekend. Glad I could add something to the team.. Usually it is only a spike or a fork here in MA.

Nice buck Wes. Way to go.

Congrats on the Elk.....Buck.

Well tomorrow night will be it for me in VT. I didn't hunt much
this week due to a friend of mine needed a guide for his moose
hunt. His son broke his leg playing soccer. I got him close to
2 nice bulls, but he couldn't close the deal. The 2nd day we
went to another spot I know and he shot a nice little bull. I
am happy for him. This was the first biggame animal he has
taken. I will be taken my nephew out to see if he can fill his tag.
He has a cow only. I will be his 2nd shooter and guide. His hunt
is this weekend.

I still have a week to hunt CT. I will do that after I take my kids
youth hunting here.

Good luck to all,
G

Wow...... What a nasty weekend!!! Sat. it rained so hard our
raingear was totally soaked. Sunday it snowed so hard and
was so windy you couldn't see 20 yards in front of you. The
moose never moved all weekend.

Well bow season is done here. Youth weekend is next weekend.
I will take my kids out and hopefully tag one of the little bucks
I have been seeing. Sunday night I will head down to CT for a
week to bow hunt there.

Good luck,
G
