RE: 15- Team "Death from Above" Official Thread
Only got out Friday PM this weekend due to high winds & nasty rain. Had a deer come in right at dark... only heard it.. definately a deer though... Came into some thick stuff in front of me... turned and went back the way it came.
I probably won't get out at all this week... Leaving for Ontario Thurs PM. Need to spend some time w/ wife & kids before I go. It will be tough being away from my little girls for 8 days! |

Hi fellas. No luck so far. I've seen 3 different bucks in 3 different areas chasing does. It's a little early but I guess they don't know it!! I'm headed back up to the farm by myself tomorrow a.m. and hope to stay till Sunday. My hubby gets a little nervous, but I have plenty of fire power at the cabin and will be fine. My only concern is getting a deer out of the woods and back to the garage by myself.....but I think I pretty much have it figured out. A 4wheeler, two ropes and my farm truck. We have an electric hoist in the garage so gutting should be no problem. I usually am the one to field dress and cape all of our deer anyway........Ron's too messy!! I found a buck on my lake road Sunday morning.....someone had killed and cut the head off. I am so PISSED. Talked to the game warden and we are setting up a trap. This is the third deer in our area in 3 weeks. Makes me sick....so I shall do something about it! And what a waste of good venison. Talk to you guys when I get back and good luck to all of you. Well.....It's over.We got mynephew his moose. He shot a nice cow.
I think it will be around 550lbs. We have not gotten it out yet. It's about 1.5 miles in on state land and they won't let us get it with my 4 wheeler. We got a horse, but that won't be until morning. He did a great job and my brother and I are very happy. Now it's youth weekend comming and time to get my kids some close incounters of the whitetail kind!! Then I'm off to CT for one last time bowhunting. Good luck all, G |

Well it's the first day of youth weekend and we now have some
meat going in the freezer. My son shot a 120lb doe tonight. She came out about 125 yrds from us at about 3:30. We let her feed while I tried to calm him down. Devon was soooo excited!! We agreed that he wasn't going to shoot a fawn this year. So the only way I could get him to stop shaking was to tell him the doe was a fawn. Well it worked.....almost to well. He laid his gun down. As the doe feed closer to about 100yrds I told him that he could shoot her. He said "but it's a fawn". Now I had to convince him it wasn't a fawn before she walked off...LOL He picked up his Winchester .45 long colt and placed the cross hair on the shoulder. I ask if he was ready and he said yes. The gun went off and I could tell it was a good hit. He yells out loud "YES I GOT HER" I said yes you did. Devon is 10 years old and this is his 2nd deer. First was a fawn so I wanted him to bump up alittle on what he took. I will tell you that he was shaking so bad with her that I am glad it wasn't a buck....he might have wet himself. Or worse I might of....... She fell just out of sight in the woods. I had him track her and after about 30 min he found her 75 yards away. What a great way to start the season. Now for my daughter. I will take her tomorrow and then go to CT for a week. Good Luck All, G If someone can post a pic I will email one. |

Sounds like a great hunt! Congrats to your son.
I just got back from Ontario... Somewhat disappointing... Didn't see alot of deer. The areas we were hunting were extremely thick and hard to see through w/ no snow... I wound up shooting a nice 6 point w/ no brows which dressed out around 155lb. He had 12" spread. Nothing huge, but better than coming home empty handed. I shot him at 70 yards w/ the 7mm mag and he just dropped. http://i14.tinypic.com/2vmu4b4.jpg My brother in law took a nice 9 the last night that might go 100" or so... It weighed around 170lb.He missed a freak earlier that afternoon. One other guy took the largest 4 point I have ever seen. His weighed the same as mine. Went back to my normal morning bowhunting spot that I haven't been to since last Friday to find very fresh tracks after last night's rain and a annually rubbed tree that was absolutely shredded open again. It was not last Friday. Hopefully they start rutting soon. |

Congrats to all your hunting partners. For me i havent been seing to much. If i never told ya'll yet about "Mr.Poper" i almost got a chance at him. I was at full draw and he only needed to walk 5 more feet and i could ahad him. but a fourwheeler came threw the woods and scared him out. I was one angry guy that night! But i set up right on top of where he is marking his territory with scrapes and what not so hopefully i'll get a chance at him. He gotta score atleast 160. Good luck to all.

I took a small doe Wed right at 4:00. Was sitting in the same blind I took the buck from in the rain m ost of the say.
About 10 to 4 it stopped raining & I heard a twig snap & she was behind me about 10 yards away. She circled me until she was in front about 25 yards out & started feeding right towards me. Turned broadside 15 yards away & hung around too long. ;) I wasn't gonna take her at first but I only have one in the freezer & she gave me too much time to think about it. :D |
