Well I am in maintenance. I work for Miami University in Oxford Ohio. I don't like it very much here. I have had other maintenace jobs that I liked but not this one. As of right now I am trying to change jobs. I am in the hiring process for a police officers position here in Oxford and if that doesn't work out I will go elsewhere to find a law enforcement job. I am really hopeful about this job, I have always wanted to be in law enforcement and hopefully this will be the time for me to get the job. Good luck to everyone out hunting and be safe.

Sunday I rode over to WV (I only live 15 min. away), and picked up my NR license and a bow tag. For the past three nights, I've been down there hanging stands or hunting. Last night, I went straight over from work, and I finally had some action.
I got there at 5:40, and set up in a lock-on that I had put in a field corner. There's an active scrape in a field corner about 600 yards away, and I can see it from my stand. At 6:15 last night, two bucks came out there, and started pawing it up. One nice one and a scrubster. Then, they started meandering across the open field toward me, feeding in the old cut cornrows. For some reason, they got edgy and started walking my way - double-timing it. They came straight in to my corner, and I got a good look at them. The small one was a 5 pointer, with a really dark, busted uprack. The big one was a hog of a deer, with about 4 on each side. He was only about 13" wide, but his antlers stuck straight up about 12", in a big, palmated beam with little tines coming off. He was symmetrical, somehow. Quite an oddity.
I had him at 25 yards, and opted to pass. I know I'm gonna wish I took him, but I'm hunting something big now. He probably wouldn't have scored 100", but he had a crazy looking rack, and was a huge deer. He had his little buddy by fifty pounds on the hoof, I'd bet.
Then, as it's getting dark, I heard something approaching from behind me. It's too dark to see in the woods, but I could see the movement, and heard it walk right under my stand, and into the light of the field. It was another buck, but he was small. Bright yellow antlers, way inside his ears. I was really straining to see, but I know he wasn't very big. I wound up spooking him on my way out. I'd guess he's a fork or a six pointer.
I also saw a flock of 14 hens, and drew on the last one as they were passing. Thenit hit me:"what the hell are you going to do with a dead turkey? ... and you don't even know if it's TURKEY SEASON" So I let down.
Non-stop action, my best evening hunt so far this season - 3 bucks and a turkey, all in bow-range.

Sounds like a good night of hunting. I'm trying to get out when I can after work. Sometimes I feel getting outin the woods by 5 is too late to climb a tree. I can't set up any hangons where i can just shoot up one either.I've been trying off the ground. Also not my favorite way to do things. I just feel like if I tried going in and getting up a tree, I'd be furious if I spooked one, trying to push the time issue.

Ryan - where I'm at, I was able to hang two lock-ons. One for AM andone for PM.Those save a lot of time. Sometimes when I go in that late, I bump deer out, but it's either bump them out, or sit home and wish that I was in my stand. Gotta take the good with the bad, I guess. I kinda sneak in through a row of pine trees, using them for cover, then I make sure the coast is clear, and hustle across the cut corn and buzz up the tree. I've been fortunate so far this year, but I'll have one more week of evening hunting before the time change. Then it will be 1.5 hour morning hunts - and beating it back to work. I found a little turnaround where I can pull off and change from my camo into my wingtips and dress clothes. A little half-assed hair spray brush job in the rear-view and I'm good-to-go. LOL

Sometimes I think my hunting approach is WAY too conservative. I get out every chance I can, but sometimes when time is limited I think i hunt the 'edges' too much or go to lesser spots for fear of spookingthings from good spots.I need to go for it more. I'm getting better and more aggressive.
I hear ya on the clothes changin deal. My place is relaxed enough where the entire month of may I came to work in a pair of camo pants, and most people would ask if I got one yet. I was able to change once I got here.

Gonna be a wet one in these parts tomorrow, Rybo. Finally the cold weather is moving in, but unfortunately it's bringing a motherlode of rain with it.
I wish I'd have shot that deer last night. [:'(] grrr... No I don't...[
] Yes I do. [>:]
Good luck this weekend, TEAM XX - I can practically feel that HNI victory hat nestled comfortably atop my balding dome, keeping my scalp warm foryears to come.Think about it - If we win, we canuse the money we had saved for hairpieces, and buy hunting stuff with it!!Shed will make us "Deer Hide Toupees" out of his buck fur, that we can wear to celebrate the victory.

I am still here guys - try to read the posts every couple of days, but have not had any time lately to respond - but watch out I will try to fill up a few pages of text for an attempted catch up on various conversations!
Troy - Congratulations! that is another incredible deer!! Happy Birthday - and I hope you have a great weekend.
Quick - I know what you mean going back and forth with the should have/glad I didn't ordeal - I was drawn on a solid 140 at 6 yards (drew when he went behind a tree he turned and came straight in with virtually a full frontal shot) there was no question whatsoever in my mind that I would take out his heart... but I still view that as a low percentage shot and held. He spun and bolted to fast to get a good shot. The good thing is that he will be HUGE now. That did sound like a great day on the stand!
Anthony - how is the corn situation - we still have significant amounts in (last week some that was pulled tested 18) so it still might be a while.
I am a CPA a senior manager (or partner in training) for a large local firm and specialize in tax & closely held business consulting. For the most part I like what I do, like the people I work with and my clients are great. The hours I put in suck and the fact that between 8-5 I put out fires for everyone and get none of my stuff done (which could be a big reason for the hours sucking).
I am actually getting out on Sunday!! - Quick and Ryan - I feel sorry for you guys not being able to hunt on Sundays that is a shame!
I took Monday off and was going then also but need to take my Dad to get an IV port put in, he has to take another round of Chemo as some cancer has shown back up.
Ryan & William - good luck in finding/landing a job that you want and like!
AR - hope you bag some birds! - mmm pheasant and noodles sounds great about now!
Good luck to everyone out hunting this weekend! - Oh and from another balding domed teammate - lets get those hats!! - but the toupee would be a great conversation piece
Mike
