Default Small lime spreader

I have noticed a lot of posts about spreading lime and how much trouble it is on a small plot. A friend had thi spreader and I was going to take some pics to build me one. After I had gotten them he told me to just take it. It is made out of an old truck rear axle wih a spreader plate welded to the pinion shaft it has a tounge for pulling and a barrel to hold seed or lime. It has an agitator inside the barrel to keep the lime from packing. The plate is adjustable up and down. I will have to put some new tires on it and oil and paint but it stiill works

This is a close-up of the mechanism. Maybe some of you industrious guys will build one

Man, that' s a pretty cool spreader and a decent price too. I' m not sure how well it will work for powdered lime but it should be great for pelletized lime and fertilizer. It would be good if you could have it sand blasted before painting it. Post some pictures when you get it all shined up and let us know how it works!!

Good luck on getting some of that rust off. Looks like it was used to spread fertilizer and they failed to wash it out and spray it with oil. Due to the volume of lime needed in most cases and the price of bag lime versus bulk lime I think you will be better off either using a tag-a-long from the distributor or just letting them spread it for you. Should work fine for fertilizer and seed though.

It does spread lime very well. It is about 40 yrs old and still works. My friends father used it when we were kids. I use a pull spreader on my pasture and big wheat field but it will be good for my shooting lanes. i just have the bulk dropped off out front and load it myself. Just thought some of the members that had 1-2 acres might want one.

I bought a small spreader 4 years ago. Holds 150#, PTO driven, fits on the 3 point hitch of my MF 135. Has a built in agitator which seems to keep the lime flowing if it is not too damp. My lanes through the timber are wide enough to get it to all my plots.

Hey Rick, that thing looks like junk to me. [] I' ve got to have one! Think you could take a couple more pictures for me? I' d like to see what' s in the barrel, agitator, and bearing set-up. The pictures you have don' t show much of the tongue, it must be facing the tree. All polished and pretty isn' t important to me, functional is. [&:] Thanks for shareing with us. terry

Terry, Thanks for the positive comments. I too want function over form. I will get some nore detailed pics, when i get some tires on it and get it home. It has been home to squirrels and birds for a time. The tongue is a 3' pipe welded to the axle with some angle braces. I am not sure but the axle looks like a model A ford. anyone know?
