I just finished clearing some trails through my woods with my tractor. Since I was using a 6' scraper blade (and got a bit over zealous in some places), I' ve got a good amount of bare soil that is in shade. Is there anything that would be a good idea to plant at this time of year in a [mostly] shady location, or should I just let the weeds--including multi-flora rose and poison ivy--take over and hope for the best?

If you get a few hours of sun each day you could try seeding some clover. If you' ve been getting anywhere near the rain that we' re getting the seed should still grow.

Put in a mix of Ladino clover and annual ryegrass. The ryegrass will give you quick forage, and the clover will really take over when the rye frosts out this fall.
