I've read a few books about food plots and have gained enough info to be dangerous but now I finally have the time to start preparing some food plots on my property in Ohio. My wife is a school teacher and now that she is done, my schedule just got a little lighter. I live in PA and my property is about an hour away so I want to maximize my prep time while I'm there.
I will be doing some clearing/road building with a machine this week. There is one open area that just needs cleaned up a little. Am I better off getting the plots prepared, soil tested, limed and left alone until a fall planting or should I do all of the above plus try a sample plot immediately just to get something going right away?
I would appreciate your input. Thanks!

Hey Brian. It's not to late to plant most things. Whether or not your best bet is to wait till fall depends on what you are looking to get out of it. May I suggest you contact Daniel, the lead biologist at Wlidlife Management Solutions877-400-8089, and he will help you through it all, what to plant and if you should wait. One last thing, it is always best to get a soil sample to lime and fertilize so you aren't wasting your time and efferts.

Thanks! I'm heading over tomorrow to do some work. I'm hoping to prepare three, 1 acre plots after I get my road done. I picked up an instant read PH tester at the local seed supplier today and if it is as accurate as they say, and the PH is anywhere neutral, I might get some seed down too in one plot anyway just to get something going. I'm still going to do an official soil test on the other plots.Wishful thinking for sure.
