Default first timer!

This year i have access to 126 acres of land. I have decided to plant some food plots on the land to see what i cant bring in and hopfully hold. The surrounding land is all pasture for cattle, with two alfalfa fields to the North and South of the land. The land that i am on has pretty much everything that the deer need. We have about the best ponds in the area that they frequent and plenty of cover for them to bed. Right now they use our land as a way between the alfalfa fields, but i want to get some resident deer to stay on our land and hold a small herd of them.

I live in just north of Springfield, Missouri and wanted to know what would be good to plant.

I have enough clover, chickory, and alfalfa to plant a 1/4 acre plot. there will me more plots planted along with this one, but want to know what a good late season plot would be?

If you have any questions for me jsut ask and i will try to answer them.

Steve

It will be very tough to compete with the alfalfa during the growing season for it. For late seasonI would suggest some brassicas. After the first couple of frosts that alfalfa will be dead, and you want something to draw them afterwords. If you have the space and equipment you could try some corn next year. Good luck and get going; fall is just around the corner.

I agree. Why would you plant more of the same that is already there? Brassicas is the way I'd go, too.

Brassica is a ditto here as well. Planted both Biologic's Maxium seeds and trying the WTI Winter Greens as well this year. After the first frost or two, the Brassica will be looking quite good to the deer.
