Prepare the plot with as much exposed soil as possible (100% is perfect)
A plowed plot, and disked would be best.

Broadcast - and
ROLL in the seeds.

do not disk - or drag around a log.

Hope for 2 days steady rain!

FH

Advice? - Walk away from it now and let the weeds take over. You will become addicted/obsessed when you see the first doe and her fawns chewing on your handiwork...your girlfriendwill wonder why you spend so much money and time on those deer (?isn't the hunting season enough?) - be sure to get her involved! Otherwise, listen to FH.

your soil probably needs some lime. buy about half a ton from a quarry ($5) and have them dump it in the back of your truck. have someone drive around your plot while you blow the lime out the back with a leafblower. wear earplugs, wear adustmask.

My advice is to first get a soil sample, then mow the weed or grass, and then spray everything with roundup. After you get your soil sample you can amend the soil and start planting. Be quick though because fall is around the corner.
