Default Deer Blocks

I have tried different types of mineral blocks and had little success with blacktail deer using them, any ideas on what type of deer blocks I should use.

You can get apple flavoured 4 lb blocks at TSC for less than $2. Somepeople recommend the larger stock blocks (minerailized or plain)but I have better consumption of the apple flavoured ones. I usually place them in rotting tree stumps. When the block is finished the deer start eating the stump.

In our area they're made by Sifto salt Co. If you have a TSC or Co-Op store you should buy them there. They sell them as horse mineral blocks. Hunting stores carry them in acorn and apple flavour but they charge 3 times as much for the same product. You wouldn't want to get them shipped by mail because of the weight.

Exactly the same blocks but with the word "deer" on them instead of "equine" and a price sticker 3 times higher. The trace elements on the labels are identical. Find an old stump and create a hole in the center that will hold the block. Then have fun watching it disappear.

A deer needs 1.5 oz. of quality vitamin/mineral a day to make a meaningful difference. The will not be able to get the much off a block. Also salt content needs to be in order for the season the block is used. Rarely are blocks/licks that are over 4%-10% used abter the brown out/pre rut begin.
