Default Please give me advice on a food plot in Texas

My lease is in north central Texas and I want to try to make a food plot by using the No-Plow. When should I plant and how should I do it?

I don't know what you could get to grow if we don't get any more rain for a while. And if your in N. Texas, you know what I'm talkin about. Out where I hunt, nobody made any wheat because lack of moisture so we are just leaving it in the fields for the deer. That will be my food plot this year. Larry

I've seen it at Bass Pro and Dick's Sporting Goods. I dont even know what it grows but its made to where you dont have to plow up the ground to plant it.

No Plow is a good crop to plant in dry conditions, also you hardly need any equipment to plant it. They do recommend breaking up the soil just a little bit before you scatter the seed around.

Patriot15 - On the Whitetail Institute websitefor No-Plow, they say that August 25 - October 15th is the time to plant for N. Texas.

About halfway down the page and to the left side you'll see a section with links to 'Helpful Hints', there is some pretty cool stuff on there.

If you are planting in the fall, plan on planting at the very end of August or the very beginning of September. September is one of our wettest months, and missing those September rains is very costly.
