I watched an old Chuck Adams video, argueably one of the greatest bowhunters alive today, and he claimed that camo was unnessesary really, he said that a dark colored flannel and a pair of blue jeans. As long as your quiet, scent free, and don't move alot. Good luck.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quotequote:
Well I will be using camo for the first time in over 35 years of deer hunting this year. Why? Well I went turkey hunting for the first time last spring and the guy I went with told me I was wasting my time and his if I didn't.

Personally, I think that guy was full of crap. We all know that turkey have amazing eyes but, like deer, they are much more sensative to movement. I read an article awhile back about this guy who hunts turkeys 100% traditionally. He uses an old flint-lock muzzleloader shotgun and actually wears traditional pilgrim-like clothing...NOT CAMO! Can't deny the success he had seeing the photo's. I'm not suggesting that everyone ditch their camo, just reinforcing the opinion that camo is not nearly as necessary as they want you to believe.

I think you guys are right. I am a beginner however and may miss some of the common sense things that you think of, so I will use common sense to buy camo to cover my ineptitude.

Last year I killed a nice 8 point from 10 feet on a field edge, what was i wearing? carhart brown. the year before i was hanging a tree stand in blue jeans and fighting illini sweatshirt, when i finished i sat there for a few minutes and had 2 does within bow range. i know a guy who took a brown sleeping bag with him one very cold morning and shot a deer from a fence row. i still buy camo, because i think it can help a little bit, but i buy the clothing first, not the camo. are the new camo's any better than the camo of 10 years ago? probably not. which is better, MOBU or realtree? who knows.

personally i do not like atificial shadows on my clothing, it makes it look too dark. it is next to impossible to even see any natural shadows on an overcast day, so why would i want my clothing to be half-black? As far as i am concerned, as long as you do not have any big areas of solid color, and have earth tones, you should be fine.

just because you are a beginner, don't get caught up in the hype. i've seen very few accessories(not basics, like a GOOD bow, footwear, rifle...) but accessories that actually make you a better hunter.

Expirience is the absolute best tool you can ever have in the woods. period.
