i am looking at getting a new set of binoculars. i am looking at leupold and have been told that they are great. but that was from people who have not really roughed it out in the woods. are they tough and am i going to get my moneys worth.

I have a pair of Wind River (Leupold) Cascade 10x42's. I love them!! I will, however, be getting a Swarovski Bino/spotting scope combo if I ever get the money. For the money of the Wind Rivers, it is hard to beat. Another to look at for good binos would be Brunton, and Nikon. They are priced a little bit less than the Wind Rivers.

I just recently bought my first good pair of binos not too long ago. After using cheap bushnell optics all these years, I'd had with them. Anyways, I did a lot of reseach and the names that kept coming up as good pics were Zeiss, Swarvoski, Nikon, and leica. Didn't really find much on leupold binos (but I know their scopes are high quality). I ended up buying Nikno Monarch ATB 10x42 porro prisms (nice and compact: about 5" tall and only 21 oz) and I absolutely love them! Hope this helps.

I have Leupold Wind River 10 x 50s and think they are great. I had the opportunity to check out both Kahles 10 x 42s and Swarovski 10 x 42s with my Wind Rivers under long distance and low light conditions on a Montana hunt in 2003 and must say there was very little difference. To be fair though, the 10 x 42s were much smaller and lighter. The Wind Rivers are pretty rugged though.

I've got an old Nikon binocular that I've had for nearly 15 years --- they're still crystal clear and have taken their share of abuse. If they ever give up the ghost, I'm buying another set of Nikon's.

I have Swarovski (8X56 - big ones) and Leica Geovid (10X42). I use the Leica's a lot, they're smaller and have the range finder built in. I wouldn't hesitate to buy Leupold, given the satisfaction I've had with their rifle scopes. Leica USA has excellent customer support too, my spotting scope needed a part and they sent it without any questions being asked.
