Two weekends ago there was a pitbull running around and it managed to take down a doe fawn in the field down the road from my house . I wasn't home at the time but my dad said that the dog had a hold of the deers throat and was shaking it like crazy and the deer was bleating like crazy the whole time. My uncle called the game warden and was told to go and finish off the deer but don't shoot the dog. He killed the deer and chased the dog away. That mutt is pretty lucky that I wasn't home because I would have had no problem going down and slamming his mangy butt with a couple of 12-gauge brenekee slugs. I know one thing...if he shows up here again and he'll never leave

Out in the huntin fields and woods, if I see a dog I haven't seen before - it get's 1 free walk IF it isn't chasing deer or other game.
Next time there's no second chance.
Folks who have dogs around the hunting grounds know that guys (and gals) are out hunting.
They know there's folks who pay tall cash for leases.
They know that any dogs can ruin well and long planned hunts.
And they know it's their responsibilities, no one else's to keep those dogs under their control and on their property.
Too many stupid excuses. Ifs. Buts. Always some excuse.
Keep them dogs up or put 'em down.

that is a grey area, because 1. what if it is a kids pet 2. it would disrupt your hunt. I am currently facing that exact problem, and I haven't shot it yet, but if it continues I might consider it.

Man, thats nature. I guess you don't watch the lion taking down gazelles or a male bruin killing off cubs to get a sow to go into heat

the lion is killing the gazelle for food, what was the pit bill going to mate with the, the doe fawns mother. sorry bc but that logic is a little flawed, i'll stick with my original post
i can over-look the incedental dog coming across my property, where the problem starts is with problem dogs, if they turned out there dogs every sat. morning me and somebody would be having a good talk. if there pets talk to the owners, i do the best i can to keep mine up but they do perform jail breaks every now and then and if there causing a problem i'd like to know first. if the dogs are left to run wild which is not uncommon around here i say eliminate the problem, i would leave the dog shootin as a last resort, but some people have no regard for there "pets" well being..and don't care what i'll effects it has on your property, ie livestock, they can chase a calf once but if its an everyday ocourance spot has to go.. sorry

I would probably place my deer target out with a good scent trail of deer urine leading to it, where I would have several leg hold traps waiting for the unsuspecting dog or dogs. When I caught a dog I would go check him for tags etc. If he had them, I would contact the Dog Warden and the Game Warden and have his owner arrested. If he didn't have tags, I would take him to the pound.

I understand its a felony to shoot a dog in Alabama even if it is running deer.
