Ever run into a Tresspasser?

Thankfully ,
that hasn't come up for me yet . I hope that if it does I'll have the maturity to not go off half cocked , especially if I happen to have a gun in hand .

I would keep an eye on my neighbor's fishing pier. Trespassers would trash up the place, so he wanted me to run them off.
I would approach them with "Did Joe say you could fish on his pier?" Most would say "No". A few would say "Yes". Well the owner's name wasn't Joe. So I'd run him off also. The same technique will work on hunting property.

This happens to me more times than i really like to deal with. We own around 2000 acres of land that is all posted hunting with permission only. At least once a week i catch someone on there who is not supposed to be there. Usually they play dumb and say they did not know whos land it was or never seen the sign etc. I have absolutley no sympathy for these people. My all time favorite was one incident when i was 16 hunting elk. I was walking down the cutline and see this fella walking right along the bush leaving scent all along the trails. I thought "NICE" so i approached him and we got talkin and i told him to leave and he was ballsy enough to tell me that i did not own this land and he had a right to hunt there. Being 16 at the time i said ok fine, walked back to my truck whipped home and got my 6ft 3 240lb brother to come back with me and that seemed to persuade him to leave. Another favorite of mine was when i was just out for a rip on my quad down the back roads and see this truck driving across my field over top of the wheat swaths. I caught up to them and stopped them to talk, hunting suits on, bullets in their hand. I ask what hell do you think you guys are doing, your driving over the crop. Oh we are lost do you know which way it is back to town? We aren't hunting at all just lost. Hmm suits on bullets in hands not hunting okay sure. I say, u see that tower over there well thats town i suggest u get there fast. i could go on and on like i say these things happen weekly here but these are just a few of my favorties. Sad thing is if people would ask more than likely i would let them hunt, but if you don't ask and i catch ya out there ya better have a fast truck.

I have never ran into anybody in particular but, one day last year my cousing and I were on our land and found a nice tree stand. he has never seen it and neithe have I not one that has permission to hunt on our land has built it. there was also a feeder ther. that following week we cut the lock off the feeder and posted a no tresspassing sign on the stand. we don't use it because it looks like it could fall down at any minute

I have been cought tresspassing 3 times.
The 1st time I cut the mans fence, drove my truck across a very nice feild of corn. I drove to the pond and pulled out 3 cows from falling tough the ice, When I was hucking up to the 4th one there was a shoot rang over my head. The farmer was seting on top of his truck shooting over my head.I hooked up the 4th cow and pulled him to the bank. After I spent hour or so talking to the farmer and 4 COPS [They where very crappy to me]. The farmer under stood what had happen and could not apolagiz enough about how bad he felt shooting over my head.
The 2nd time I had the right to hunt on the land right next to a real but hole.I shot a doe with my bow. the doe went 60 yards .That just happen to be 20 yards on the opisit side of the fence.I went and nocked on the mans door no one there. I called the worden told him the deal THE WORDEN SAID JUST DRAG THE DEER TO THE TRUCK. Well when I did this the man ran out of his hous got in the truck and drove right to me [ on the land I could hunt on]. Well the worden was call again and I GOT A TICKET the worden said he never said to tresspass just to drag the deer to the truck. The man and his nabber are no longer friends at all the man that owned the land I could hunt on pressed charges aginst the pain in the but his fine was way worse than mine due to the fact he drove on the land.
The 3rd time I was cosuled was dew to the man posting land the was forest land [not his public land].I was on my way back to the truck. the man had called the law and the cops where seting at my truck.I got 4 tickets the cops where very very crapy to me.I checked in to the property boundrays and found that the man owned 22 acr but had fenced off 200 acrs [this is a very comon in montana] When I presented this in cort the judge droped the caces. I ask what will happed to the guy that posted all the land .The judge said it would be looked in to. WELL here it is 4 years latter the man still runs every one off BUT ME and not any thing has been done to the land owner.
I am just saying not the best thing to think all people are bad.I thank the guys who talk to me befor they call the law.Every time the cops came they where very crappy to me and the guys with me.Cops NEVER ask my side of the storry just TOLD me how it would be .

Yea. And when I confronted him he told me he had permission from the owner, who is a good friend of his to hunt the posted land. I responded by saying, "thats strange, I own this property and I DON'T KNOW YOU". End of conversation.[>:]

coastie you are probably right. i have a guy who happens to be my treasurer who posted some gov't land. he said he didnt know . i took the signs down prior to seeing him. we had a ...............well one sided discussion and it is understood that he is not to even think about putting any signs up. i have had a few problems with him in relation to signs and another mishap and he will probably be hunting somewhere else.
I know of a few clubs that have done just this.........post land that is not theres to keep folks out. if i am interested in a tract even if it is posted i contact the owner to make sure. i have leased land that was posted by some slug and then sent the slug packing with his tail between his legs!
Every hunter needs good maps of the area they hunt . not just topo maps either a platt map is much more useful!!!!!!!!
I will not hunt any area without a ownership platt with me.
