Iloveto4x4, yes, and yes.

What I am talking about is the families go generation after generation after generation. If you come from WV, you know what I am saying. That gets my blood boiling. And then my dipstick ex father in law, has the nerve to look at me and say "boy, wish I could have went to college like you". And I reply, "yea, I just never got a girl pregnat at the age of 15 like you did". His family goes back generations drawing gov. money and poaching. Which is the typical poacher in Southern WV.

I seriously doubt that the people with the "POACHING IS POACHING" posts would let their wife or children go hungry just so they can say that they never broke a law.

I never said that it was legal, just that if I had to to feed my family, I would in a hillbilly's heart beat.
I appreciate your statements, and I'm like you. I am a "poaching is stealing" guy, but I have learned to never say never. I might poach to feed my family, just like I might steal if I were desperate, but I wouldn't call it right. More likely I would sell my gun and gear and buy a side of beef while I get a job.

If I catch a poacher I'm not going to spend any time wondering if his kids need the meat, I'm turning him in. If I got desperate enough to steal I would expect someone to do the same to me.

This is a great topic. I love listening to all you people that like to tell other people what to do. Who the hell are you to tell me to go get welfare or take my family to a soup kitchen. In this lifetime i can assure you that that will NEVER happen. If my family is hungry enough, it is MY responsability to fix that. I would kill and eat everything that walks, crawls, swims, or breathes before I would ever go to a welfare office and ask for anything. And thats my right. And I will tell you another thing. I would have absolutely NO PROBLEM looking a Judge in the eye and telling them why I did it. Only a complete moron would shun a man for taking care of his kin and making sure their bellies are full.

Very different topic between killing someones cows and shooting a deer. I think even you can see that. You have to really stretch to compare the two. Poaching is wrong, but so it starving. It is so easy to say you would not do it. It is so hard to imagine how you could get so hungry to poach a deer in this day and age. Would I do it? In a heart beat.
If I got caught I would stand up and look at the judge and tell him why I did it.

Everything changes when you need to take care of your family.

I personally dont see a problem with hunting year round on your own property. If it is your land I believe you should be able to do whatever you want as long as you are not endangering a species. In North Carolina, I heard the wildlife officers released coyotoes into the wild to reduce the deer herd - because of the insurance companies complaining of all the deer/automobile accidents. We have seen 4 coyotes last season as opposed to never seeing them before. Also, we have found at least 3 deer carcasses. If you live in an area overpopulated with deer, and you own the land, then I dont see a reason why you can't hunt year round ... especially if coyotes are getting to them. Personally, I feel the wildlife officers should have either extended the hunting season to help the problem, or issue special permits to allow hunters to hunt at night.

Really whats the diff. other than the gov. owns the deer & a person owns the cow are not both against the law & are not both stealing.

Too proud for welfare but not too proud to break the law?

And thats my right.

I just don't get it. My family comes before ANYONE and that includes myself !! If I have to swallow my pride and stand in a wellfare line so my wife and child have something to eat tonight then there isn't going to be no man on this earth that could stop me. Yeah, I might be embarassed standing there. I may be in the dumps for losing my job. I may have a tough time looking in the mirror at night but they keyword here is "I". Not my wife, and not my son. I would take all of their pain that they would have to deal with in their lives just so they wouldn't have to and if that means using whats necessary to get back on my feet again while not breaking the law then so be it. I might not have everything I've always wanted but I can always say that everythingI have, I got it honest. I take more pride in that than anything.
