RE: Split skull plate ??what is it ?
A split skull plate is, well, what it sounds like, a full severing of the bone of the skull, or cranium, thus separating the antlers (or horns). You definitely don't want you or your guide to accidentally do this. B&C won't recognize this because you cannot accurately display/prove the actual inches in spread. The scoring would be rendered unfair if you tried to artificially glue it back together or something, because you would theoretically lose (maybe gain, w/addition of adhesive) length.
Hope this helps!

It refers to a broken or even cracked skull plate of the animal in question.
Ostensibly, the measurements of a damaged skull plate could be altered to exaggerate dimesions. Therefore, only antlers/horns with skull plates intact are considered worthy of receiving an "official score" from Boone & Crockett...due to their integrity.
OOps, sorry Kim...I guess we were writing at the same time.

Yep they are right. It is a common practice to have the taxi mount a deer after spreading the antlers further then it really was. The more common practice is tilting the angle of the antlers out creating spread inchs. I seen them moved from 16 inch spreads to 20 plus inch spreads.Once the mount is done and hide on .Noway to tell unless you take the mount apart. I bet you some were officially scored that way

However, if not having it officially scored, splitting the skull plate makes it MUCH easier to ship antlers, they fit in a much smaller box. If doing this, split the skull in a "V" or two line cut, not a single straight saw cut. Makes it much easer to put it back together exactly as it was.
