I got my girlfriend and her little bro hooked on hunting, but I only had her bro with me this morning while deer hunting. We had been out for only an hour or so. Suddenly the creek exploded, I counted at least 12 shots, and I think I missed a couple. I turned around and looked towards it, there was a guy sitting near my truck, parked a quarter mile behind my stand, holding a rifle with a banana clip, he had shot into the ground. After that he just got into his truck and left...as did all the deer in the area I'm sure.

Sounds like some sort of anti-hunter trying to make his feeble point. If Kansas doesn't have hunting-fishing harassment laws try to call a few legislators and see if you can help get something passed.

Seriously now, just where are the deer going to go?
They may be on edge for a bit, but they calm down when no threat presents itself.
Everytime they see a coyote, do you think they leave the county?
If anything it may get them moving. I wouldn't let it bother me, then the actions of that idiot worked. He was probably tee'd that someone was in 'his' area.

Possibly you got into his area as 1st_lite said . Some people think because they have hunted in a area nobody else should . I doubt to that it would run the deer off ,might be spooky for abit though. Better luck next time .

Nomercy as others have said, just because there have been shots nearby does not mean the deer are going to stayed hunkered down or gone. A lot of times deer will freeze for 10-15 minutes, then slowly ease there way out of the immediate area of the shooting. Don't throw in the towel on an area because of some shooting, in some cases it can increase your chances.

I agree with Tazman, I've ben in this situation myself. The deer will take notice but will soon return to thier routine. As far as a banana clip NOT A HUNTER! In my state you are only allowed a 5 shot clip.

Last year my buddy was watching a nice 8 pt the last weekend of bow season while alot of people were sighting in for shotgun season. The deer would lay down when someone shot closeby and then would just get back up and continue feeding.
