Default The mornings hunt.

So I got out of bed around 7:00[] I made coffee for the wife. I look out to see if the deer ate all the corn and apples by the patio last night.... they had of course. I walk back and get a refill. I walk back to the window. Now where did that little 4 pointer come from at this time of day. I live in a neighborhood. There he is, 20 yards away licking up bird seed like a vacuum cleaner. He does that for 15 minutes and then starts working on the shrubbery 15 yards from the door. Then he move over what' s left of the day lillie stalks. Then he works on the money grass by the patio. He' s now 5 yards from the window. I guess he finally had his fill and wandered off across the road to check the neighbors apple tree. I guess he finally crossed the school yard and went to the swamp. I had my bow hanging right there by the door. It would have been a chip shot from the sliding glass door off the sun porch. UNFORTUNATELY, I had left my digital camera in the car when I came from hunting yesterday or you' d have some real nice close up pictures. DRATS!!! Mayb I should have shot him and we' d have pictures.[:-]

My dad used to get into a tree to hunt. Then he said he was getting too old to climb. Next he would sit on the ground to hunt...got too cold for him. Next he would climb up into his barn that overlooked a 300yd x 150yd open field deer come out to feed in. He had his propane heater, coffee, etc. Even that was too much for him. Now he sits in his basement in front of the sliding door that looks out onto the same field. He drinks his coffee, smokes his cigs, and eats snacks until the deer walk out into the field.

I think it' s a bit unsporting, but he' s not a trophy hunter. He hunts strickly for the meat. He shoots does almost exclusively and eats every bit of meat he gets.

I will say that his wife (who works nights and sleeps during the day) gets quite a wake-up since the sliding door is directly below the master bedroom!!! When that 7mm-08 goes off, she shoots 4 feet straight up in the air!!!!
