Default Trail Cam Question

This question will make it clear I'm new at this Trail Cam thing. How do I know how many pictures, if any, my camera took. I put the camera out last week and when I went to check it today, there was an 'E' on the front display. You would think if there were no pics, there would be a '0'. There's nothing in the instructions that explains how to know how many pictures were taken.

Now, this was even more interesting. I tried to figure out what was going on, so I turned the cam off, then turned it back on and reset it. Waited the 5 mins, then waved my hand infront of the Cam. A number 1 was displayed. I assume that meant it tried to take a picture, but I was kneeling right next to it and I didnt hear a clicking noise or anything. Figured it would make a little noise in taking a picture or advancing the film.

There was film in the camera when I bought it so maybe it was loaded wrong? Or maybe I just didnt have any Pics? The camera was 5 ft from a trail that had fresh sign on it so I would have thought i'd get some pics. And yes, i did go through the 'test' procedures before I turned the camera on last week. Got the green light 3x so i figured my camera angle was good. Any ideas? I have a stealth cam mc2 that uses 35mm film.

I'm going to drop off the film and put in a new roll and try all over again next week. Like I said, I didnt pay for this roll of film so if its blank, so be it. I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with the Cam.

If there was E on it, that means that when the film was originally loaded that it never caught and advanced to the first frame.

When you turned it iff, then back on and it showed 1 that means it did engage the film and actually took a picture. You should have heard it advance to the next picture though.

The cheapie Stealth can be rather tricky to get it to catch the first frame at times. Make sure you're using Kodak film and have good, premium batteries in it. Cheap film and batteries don't work well at all. Also, when you are doing th test to check and make sure it's picking up motion don't forget to turn the switch to on before you close the cam. Unfortunately, the camera defaults to standby and eventually turns itself off if you leave it in test.

Thanks for the info guys.

I did what I said I was going to do (new film, etc) and I tested it last night in the front yard. Besides the picture going off a tad late (guess I walked by too fast) everything appears to be working normally. I was thinking of heading down this afternoon to put it out, buts a hour plus drive and its pretty hot out there right now. I'll just wait until next weekend.
