I know that this is a matter of personal preference but the rifle that I pull out of the safe when I go deer hunting is my Sako Hunter in 7mm-08. Shoots great, good ballistics, very mild recoil. I shoot handloads with a 120gr. Barnes X bullet loaded to about 3150 fps..

I purchased a 243 for the same reason you are looking to purchase another rifle. I wanted somthing with light recoil and could be used for varmits. I have a BAR in 30.06 and bought an A-bolt in 243. I killed a nice 7 point this year with the 243 and it did a great job. I do not regret my decision.

I have shot whitetail with every thing from 30-30, 22-250, 243, 270, 30-06, 25-06, 300win, and pistols 357, 44mag, 454. I personally like my 30-06 because of the versitility, I can make the load exactly what I want. pistol I cant pick a fav. I like my 454 and 44mag. Both work very well.
As for accuracy and speed you cant beat a 22-250. The only problem is the knock down power. I have yet to see a deer run from my 22-250, I just fill a little insecure about the size. If you like accuracy and speed you cant beat a 22-250. The only other guns I have that are as accurate is the 243, and 25-06. But as far a versitility I could get by with just a 30-06. I can load for varmits, whitetail, or bigger game.

I primarily shoot a Ruger MKII in .270. I've felt very comfortable shooting this from close range to reaching way out there. For varmints, I have a Sako .22-250 that I love to shoot. That is an extremely fast shooting gun. It's pretty cool to see a coyote drop while looking through your scope!
