I'm 15 years old and I own a Remington Mountain Rifle LSS in .270 Win. Trust me, when I was looking for a rifle I checked every brand every model. I know the insides and outsides of most rifles on the market. (I joined this webisite just too reply to you.) After all of my hunting (no pun intended) I went with a Remington, my action is so smooth when the bolts open I can close it just by tilting my rifle foward. I can shoot one hole 3-shot groups at 100 yards with factory Winchester Supreme ammo (sounds nuts but true). Also in my opinion there is no nicer looking gun out there forunder a grand. No as far as caliber selection goes shy away from the .260. The ballistics are not all that good. You need a flat shooting bullet with as much energy down range as possible. The .270 Win is both. If you don't want to repeat the caliber you already own then get the Mountain Rifle in 30-06. I hunt Bear in PA and a .270 or 30-06 is more than enough. It's all about shot placement, I'll bet you $100 I could take down a Blackie with a .22 if I make a good shot (head shot). I shot a 520 lbs. Blackie last season and it fell where it stood (heart-lung shot). If the recoil is to much for you you can always get a removable muzzle brake (that's most likely what the .300 RUM had if not I owuld like to hire you as my personal trainer). So get the Remington in either .270 Win (first choice unless having 2 guns of the same caliber bothers you) or 30-06 (second choice). Hope that helps bud!
P.S stay away from the model 7, kiddie gun!
