hey everyone i am looking for a new rifle
hey i am new to this forum and it seems great!!
i am 14 and i have been shooting a 243 and a 270 for deer the last 2 years. however i have saved my money and i am looking to buy a new rifle. i am looking at a remington 700 mountain rifle LSS. i am interested in the 260 remington but i don't know much about the caliber
i was wondering if it is large enough to use for deer and bear? the reason i ask about the bear is because i am going to get a bear license and the first week of deer season you can shoot a bear! and i have seen about 3 in the last 2 years while hunting deer.
any other comments on this caliber/gun will be greatly appreciated-thanks!

My wife shoots a 260, for windy day coyote. It works great and would make a great deer gun. But i think it is too light for bear. I think you would be better seved with a 308 or 30-06, if you have been shooting a 270. Just my thoughts though

The .260 would be a great deer gun, maybe a little light on the bears.
The 7MM-08 is about the ultimate deer caliber, and would probably be good on bear, with the right bullets!

ok what about this 7mm stw?? how would that do on deer? i have heard it is great on long range. my shooting is inbetween 50-200 yard. do you think because it is traveling so fast it would fragment on those close shots?

The 7mm-08 would be a good combo gun, great for deer and a good 160 grain for bear.
If the majority of your shots are on the far side of 200 yards then a 7mmstw probably isn't the best choice for you, considering the recoil will probably knock you into next-week

In my opinion you have some of the best calibers already, you have it pretty much covered so if you want another I would go for a .300 win mag and you would definatley have every game covered on the planet. The .300 mag is just plain awsome, the best of the best. thats just my $.02
