Default Another Beginner Question...

Okay I am trying to figure out which stand to hunt Saturday morning.... We are supposed to have a light snow late Friday night, so its gonna be cold... Choice A would be on the tree line of a about a 100yd x 100yd field where they often feed...Choice B would be just the typical middle of the woods setting.... About the same sign and same movement in both locations on an average day... The area A has not been hunted in about a week so the so called "Left over human scent" should be out of there, while B hasn't been hunted in about 2 weeks or so.... Thank you for reading and responding to my "Beginner" questions!!!

Ty - that is a good question, one that most of us struggle with all the time

i would say watch the wind and play that game. if the wind is blowing across the field to where the deer would normally come out to feed at then i would say head in the woods. on the other hand the wind will mess you up in the middle of the woods too.

i always like hunting over fields but i have shot just as many deer in the middle of the woods. which place is closer to a bedding area.

Just guessing i would probable say the field cuz now its all about eating and sleeping

Well, the bedding area is in very thick cover...Im from TN and I don't know if you have every heard of Bowater, but they cut trees for paper and then replant them and on the far side of the land runs in to the Bowater thicket so the bedding area is the same spot for both stands just depends if they are gonna come out high in the woods or low in the field....

What's the wind going to be? If calm then I favor the hillside and ridges. If windy then the bottoms. Pay attention to the wind direction also.

Wind is a big deal....if it's windy then I would stick to cover. If you stick to cover be patient going in not to jump stuff...I hunt with a wide variety of cover and land type...from corn and bean fields, grass fields, and thick thick thick woods. When hunting the woods we have to be carefull of going in because of the deer bedding. Also take a look at the moon phase...I've noticed if it's more of a new moon they will be moving through cover...full moon...through the fields. Good luck.
